To find 'Royal Superfans' completely baffling?

I mean, why? according to this DM link there are people dressed in Union Jacks, with posters, balloons etc outside the Lindo Wing already! The Royal wedding seemed to bring them out in force too!
I have nothing against the royals as such, if anything I feel a bit sorry for them, but cannot comprehend that kind of adoration considering what they do. Surely I can't be alone in this?

HootyMcTooty · 23/04/2015 21:31

I can't imagine a worse way to spend Christmas Day!

Chippednailvarnish · 23/04/2015 21:38

Just what you want when your pushing something the size of a watermelon out of your vag, a bunch of Union Jack adorned freaks cheerleaders!

DoraGora · 23/04/2015 21:40

Why not, people love Top Gear, Come Dancing, some woman who wears a dress made out of a pig. Let's face it, popular culture is one never ending bollock. So, why choose this bit or that bit of it?

EponasWildDaughter · 23/04/2015 22:13

I was Hmm yesterday (?) morning when they said on Breakfast News about the 'stress of moving house while pregnant''.

Apparently the Queen has gifted them a huge pile in Norfolk and they are moving in before the baby comes.

God the stress. Getting into a chauffeur driven car and being driven to Norfolk. And to cap it all having to walk into your new gorgeous house with your fabulous stuff all moved and sorted out for you.

Pyjamaschocolateandwine · 23/04/2015 22:24

God yes would love their stressful life of never worrying about Money, mortgage, shelter, food or my kids futures.

Ffs stop saying you feel sorry for multimillionaires!!!

I feel sorry for these poor boat migrants.

As for these royal watchers they need a psychiatric assessment. The ones pissing about bowing and scraping on Christmas Day are frankly bloody Barmy.

Coumarin · 23/04/2015 22:49

Gets on my tits.

EmeraldThief · 23/04/2015 22:57

They are a bunch of saddos. Generally I'm of the live and let life mentality, but I can't understand why any sad fucker wouldn't want to get up at silly o clock on Christmas morning to stand outside a church for hours in the freezing cold, just so they can look at the Queen and give her a bunch of flowers.

Don't they have anything better to do? Seriously?

fancyanotherfez · 23/04/2015 23:26

Yes and all the nonsense about how will she cope with two under two? err the nanny takes one, she takes the other, that's how! Plus the housekeeperswill do the cleaning and cooking. I really don't care about royalty having staff, of course they have staff, but the sycophantic press making out they are just like us is just offensive.

reni1 · 23/04/2015 23:32

Fabulous Union Jack suits though. Do they Union Jack pants, too?

ComposHatComesBack · 24/04/2015 09:08

Keep on hoping that it isn't a pregnancy at all but a case of trapped wind caused by a rogue vindaloo nine months ago.

I would love to see the palace spokesperson outside the hospital "at 8:37 am the Duchess of Cambridge let fly with a fart that can only be described as a ripsnorter. The Duke of Cambridge was believed to have been with her and in line with Royal protocol pulled her finger and proclaimed " fucking hell Kate you could slice that one."

knittingirl · 24/04/2015 09:51

It amuses me mostly because we don't actually know the due date - all the palace/royals have ever said apparently is "mid to late April", so these people could be there for ages.

Plus, the way the media report due dates drives me up the wall, like if only we knew the actual due date, we'd know the actual date the baby is going to pop out.

FruChristerOla · 24/04/2015 10:25

"I don't get why people on Christmas day decide to go to Sandringham to queue outside the church just to see the Royal family."

There was a MNer who started a thread a couple of Christmases ago to say that her MIL (or DM, I forget) had 'cancelled' Christmas Day because she was driving, some considerable distance, to go to Sandringham which would take the whole day. The OP wasn't annoyed, just bemused and amused.

I used to work with a guy who was obsessed by the royals. On every major royal occasion he'd write a letter of congratulations/condolence to the Palace and wait with anticipation for a reply. But the day that he made us all stand by our desks, in silence, for the entirety of the Queen Mum's funeral (we had a TV in the office) took it to a whole new level of bonkerdom Grin

OrlandoWoolf · 24/04/2015 10:29

Personally I think the media should leave her alone and not camp outside the hospital.

Either she gives birth or something horrible goes wrong. Giving birth does not mean things will still go ok.

What do the media want?
What do the public want?

Why not wait for the official announcement?

Bogeyface · 24/04/2015 11:22

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b05nxgls

Tom Felton did a really good documentary about superfans, it was really interesting and quite moving when he interviewed his own superfan.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 24/04/2015 11:34

What does the ASD spectrum have to do with it JoanHickson?

Bogeyface · 24/04/2015 11:37

You mean like this Compo? :o

FenellaFellorick · 24/04/2015 12:35

Do you mean that to be obsessed with the royal family = asd or any obsession = asd?

I mean, both are wrong, obviously, but I am just curious.

Royal obsession/any obsession does not = asd.

A person with asd may have a royal obsession. As may a person without. But there's not really a connection.

FreudiansSlipper · 24/04/2015 12:40

I find any fawning over the royals baffling and feel embarrassed for the person

but then I can not wait until we become a republic it will not be long now Grin

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 24/04/2015 12:41

I find it as bizzare as any obsession, football, rugby, chippendales...

molyholy · 24/04/2015 12:44

What FreudiansSlipper said

balletnotlacrosse · 24/04/2015 12:46

I don't understand it either. I suppose with George people might have felt they were taking part in a historical moment. But this baby is highly unlikely to ever be King/Queen so there's no reason at all for this behaviour.

What really baffles me is people who travel from abroad to be outside the hospital when the announcement is made Confused

ParkingFred · 24/04/2015 12:57

I flicked the TV on this morning and they had a reporter standing outside the hospital to report that (apart from all the crazies gathering) nothing was happening.

When they went back to the studio, they said, 'that's today's top story'! Confused

FreudiansSlipper · 24/04/2015 13:01

but footballers, artists work at what they do, some harder than others but a top class athlete/artist etc you can admire their hard work and dedication

the same can not be said for someone who just happens to be born into or marries into an incredibly wealthy family

OrlandoWoolf · 24/04/2015 13:02

I turn the news off and switch channels if they go on about the Royals. The sycophancy by the media is depressing.

If they did the same for a political party, there would be questions to be asked. But it's fine to be so sycophantic (yes, Nicholas Witchell, looking at you) about the Royal Family.

The80sweregreat · 24/04/2015 13:09

It is weird. I hope it goes well for them both, but there is no way i would hang around hospitals to catch a glimpse of people i dont know or have anything in common with! My mum took me and a friend to see trooping the colour when i was 10. I loved the horses and saw the queen side saddle. It was ok, but never been to anything else Royal since!
