I think it's a brave move

Brave is battling on through terrible adversity or giving up your life to assist the less fortunate or any number of other things that remove the comfort zone.
Brave is absolutely not pulling a stupid patronising stunt which basically tells young people that they're too stupid and dribbly to turn the telly off and go vote.

AuntieStella · 07/05/2015 08:45

It's Darren.

And it is oddly compulsive.

TwinkieTwinkle · 07/05/2015 08:49

Totally addictive. Too scary though. Clowns and the girl from The Ring. Not good!

Andrewofgg · 07/05/2015 10:23

The air is redolent with the sound of tosses not being given.

fixedit · 07/05/2015 10:25

It's ridiculous. Clearly people will not vote because they're too busy watching tv?! Hmm Hmm Hmm

meditrina · 07/05/2015 10:28

If you like a Big a Brother, you'll probably like the Darren programme. It's very odd, and very tongue in cheek.

PiggyMummy · 07/05/2015 10:30

I think it's patronising.

stoatystoat · 07/05/2015 11:00

Good message to send out. A better message to have sent out would have been some shorts aimed at engaging young people.

OrlandoWoolf · 07/05/2015 11:02

Maybe MN should shut down for the day as well :)

With a message - get off the Internet and vote !!

WorraLiberty · 07/05/2015 11:04

It's a stupid publicity stunt that makes them look pretty thick, if they don't think viewers will just press another button on their remote.

I'm 27 (so in their demographic) and I don't feel patronised.
Even if it is a marketing stunt, it's a 'nice' politically aware one.

Personally, I think turning a tv channel off for a whole day sends a 'bigger' message than shorts aimed at engaging young people Probably because I imagine they'll turn out like cheesy PSHE videos

cozietoesie · 07/05/2015 11:22

Stella

I'm not sure that the 'bigger' message will reach everybody.

I'm not politically unaware but I just turned on the telly on SkyGo (having a break), saw the E4 intro screens which say 'E4 - Closed for Voting' and instinctively thought to myself - 'I don't know that programme - I wonder what it is?' Blush

Perhaps I'm not their target audience though.

mumeeee · 07/05/2015 12:01

I'm another one who thinks it's insulting to young people. I know a few under 25's and they will be voting. DD3 is at university in lectures and will be voting later when she's finished and so will her for friends.

JohnCusacksWife · 07/05/2015 12:14

If people can only be arsed to vote because there's nothing on the TV then they really shouldn't be voting!

abigamarone · 07/05/2015 13:16

There's a clown?! I've not seen that yet. I've just ended up watching the last 10 minutes of 60min makeover and flicked through to this. It's gripping stuff. Need to watch more to see if it's a loop.

cozietoesie · 07/05/2015 13:20

They're going to monopolize the viewing figures from - say - 18.30 onwards.

This could become a cult. Grin

GlacindaTheTroll · 07/05/2015 14:43

I wondered if it was a loop, because I've seen the panda twice, both times dancing to The Hustle. But the second time, Darren joined in for a bit of break dancing, and I don't remember that first time (but I've got it on in the background, rather than actually watching it actively).

This could well be the best election programme ever Grin

Even though Darren's dozing right now.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 07/05/2015 14:46

I'm in their demographic (as is dh, also here now). We're watching Darren :)

cozietoesie · 07/05/2015 14:46

I think it's wonderful - although I have to admit to waiting for Darren to have some moment of bodily weakness (of some variety.) Grin

cozietoesie · 07/05/2015 14:49

....because I've seen the panda twice, both times dancing to The Hustle....

Have you been at the cooking sherry, Glacinda ? Grin

cozietoesie · 07/05/2015 14:53

Ah - Darren is filing his nails. He's clearly cracking. Smile

GlacindaTheTroll · 07/05/2015 15:00

PANDA!

NOW!

GlacindaTheTroll · 07/05/2015 15:02

gone
