To want to walk 34 miles to work

Instead of ever driving again.
Today I have narrowly avoided being crushed by a lorry.
Thanks go to the person in front of me who thought it was a good idea to join a motorway a literally 30 miles and hour. Extra thanks to the lorry driver on the inside lane who could see what was happening but wouldn't pull over to the middle lane so I could join.

I am utterly convinced you didn't do either because of your own statements - had you slowed appropriately and read the road then you would not have nearly been "crushed" by a lorry thay had right of way

notinagreatplace · 23/04/2015 18:56

I'm not a very experienced motorway driver and I've always found joining a motorway confusing - I don't really understand what sort of speed I should be going at.

People seem to tell you that you should both be going at the same speed as the traffic that you're joining (i.e. around 70) but also that you don't have the absolute right to join, which I've always assumed to mean that I should be able to stop. So, I tend to join the motorway at about 45/50 so that I could still stop if there wasn't a gap but it's not super slow so I can speed up to 70 fairly quickly. Is that right?

notinagreatplace, general rule of thumb is that you don't cause other traffic on a motorway to brake, whether by joining the motorway or by changing lane.

Sorry zfactor I didn't post the whole of the sentence but I did read to the end of it. You still haven't told me where in the Highway Code it says this...I'll assume it doesn't and it's your own rules for driving on the motorway.

wheresthelight utterly convinced now that you have psychic abilities

easterlywinds that's exactly what I did do...I slipped in behind the lorry

You didn't narrowly avoid being crushed then!

Like I said before, carry on, you clearly know best - I'm not wasting any more time on this.

(I can't believe you're an advanced driver though - if it's true, you need a refresher course. Or, as I've mentioned before on MN, perhaps drivers should have to take an IQ test?).

And you still can't show me where you get your facts from......fair enough

and you are clearly delusional and believe the whole world revolves around you it would seem.

madasa · 23/04/2015 23:07

Not the whole world.........
