Scotland voted to stay in the UK, David Cameron and Ed Milliband wanted this, now it feels like they wish we hadnt.

ollyb my feeling exactly.

SirChenjin · 20/04/2015 20:29

We did return a no vote. That, it seems, was the wrong vote - which is why the SNP will not honour their promise of the referendum being a 'once in a generation'. They lie consistently and openly, and will promise the moon on a stick to anyone who is willing to listen to their rhetoric - and yes, I think it would suit them very nicely if the Tories got back in, because that would mean another five years of the yappy dog barking about the evil Tories, and would strengthen her case for another referendum, god help us all.

CrystalCove · 20/04/2015 20:30

Only your opinion which you are entitled to Demystified - just not one I (or a lot of other people in Scotjand) share.

SirChenjin · 20/04/2015 20:33

And plenty of us do share that view of the SNP - more do than don't, if you recall.

DowntownFunk · 20/04/2015 20:34

SNP and the referendum are not one in the same. Lots of no voters are voting SNP in the upcoming election.

ssd · 20/04/2015 20:37

I know loads of no voters voting SNP in the election.

CrystalCove · 20/04/2015 20:40

Yes Sir C I do recall. But that was the referendum, this is the General Election...one in which the SNP are predicted to do rather well in.

SirChenjin · 20/04/2015 20:44

That's right - but more people across the UK don't vote for the SNP than do. The independence vote is applied to one party (which ignores the wishes of the majority of the people it purports to represent) - in every other GE more people vote for other parties than vote for the SNP.

Viviennemary · 20/04/2015 20:46

As long as Scotland was an obedient little country quite happy to be ruled by Westminster the powers that be were happy. Now things are changing they're in a panic.

CrystalCove · 20/04/2015 20:47

So? What's your point? The SNP have a small amount of Westminster MPs at the present time - the fact that this could be 30 or even 40 us on May 8th is astonishing and if so its democracy - the people of Scotland will have voted in these MPs.

CrystalCove · 20/04/2015 20:48

Absolutely Vivienne!

CrystalCove · 20/04/2015 20:48

plus

SirChenjin · 20/04/2015 20:49

No one is in a panic, despite what the SNP would want you to believe - they simply don't want to form a coalition with the party that ignores the wishes of the majority of Scottish voters and that wants to break up the UK.

DowntownFunk · 20/04/2015 20:49

In what way are SNP ignoring the wishes of no voters?

SirChenjin · 20/04/2015 20:51

The words democracy and the SNP in the same sentence??! Now that is funny.

Viviennemary · 20/04/2015 20:52

I did think David Cameron sounded more than a bit rattled when interviewed.

SirChenjin · 20/04/2015 20:53

Funk - it may have slipped your notice that no voters voted no to independence in this generation, not ask us again in a wee while and keep asking until you hope you get what you want.

SirChenjin · 20/04/2015 20:55

Nicola sounded quite rattled when she was booed for refusing to rule out another referendum.

DowntownFunk · 20/04/2015 20:55

Unless they're fucking stupid, no voters can always tick the "no" box....oh wait...

CrystalCove · 20/04/2015 21:06

Laugh all you like SirC, democracy means people can vote for whoever they like to be their MP on May 7th, no-one is forcing people to vote for their SNP candidate. And a lot of people by the looks of it will be doing this.

littlejessie · 20/04/2015 21:07

It's an exciting time. I also know many no voters will be voting for the SNP at the election. Totally agree some of the xenophobic rhetoric coming at Scotland is atrocious. I'm from an English mother and Scots father so I hate to hear what should be an eloquent and intelligent argument being reduced to this, but I've honestly been appalled by some of the ignorant aggression and derision being directed our way. Also, the idea that it's somehow unacceptable that Scotland should horror of horrors influence the outcome of the UK election. It absolutely smacks of arrogance and betrays a horribly superior attitude that doesn't bode well for years to come.

caroldecker · 20/04/2015 21:08

The scots were ruled by the party they voted for from 1997-2010, and Out of the 18 General Elections since 1945, Scotland has got the party at Westminster which won the Scottish popular vote 12 times. That is, exactly two thirds of the time Scotland gets what it wants. For a population which is around one twelfth of the United Kingdom, that is pretty good going

Christinayangstwistedsister · 20/04/2015 21:24

And the rest of the country got it 18 out of 18

PekeandPollicle · 20/04/2015 21:42

I don't think that's right Christina. The party who wins the GE rarely has more than 40% of the vote.

Also, due to current boundaries some votes count more than others eg Orkney has 35000 potential voters in the constituency vs Isle of Wight with 100000.

ssd · 20/04/2015 21:51

SirC, you are coming across as very sneery in your posts here with your "as you recall" and "it may have slipped your notice"....it doesn't really help your argument.

Threads like these are great to discuss own points of view, but when other posters feel patronised by someone it just becomes annoying.
