DD is in y7 and the teacher taught them to remember a science experiment using words they know in an order.

She used Jimmy savile and said you will all remember that as its funny.

Aibu to be annoyed at this?

KurriKurri · 20/04/2015 16:07

yes it is innapropriate - I can't see how that would help remember a science experiment either - how odd Confused

Walkingonsunshine00 · 20/04/2015 16:08

Can I ask what the experiment was?

Sirzy · 20/04/2015 16:09

Very inappropriate

ihatelego · 20/04/2015 16:10

very inappropriate!!

vanillabananashake · 20/04/2015 16:10

They were remembering what order to do things in - a little like that 'naughty elephants squirt water' one we used to learn at school to remember the compass points but I don't know what the experiment was - would it make a difference?

OP posts:
TedAndLola · 20/04/2015 16:15

Totally inappropriate, doesn't matter what the experiment was.

GraysAnalogy · 20/04/2015 16:20

I agree completely inappropriate!

In uni we were taught one Oh Oh Oh Tubby Teens And Fresh Virgins Give Very Awful Head

MrsPatrickDempsey · 20/04/2015 17:36

Are they cranial nerves, Gray?

vanillabananashake · 20/04/2015 17:37

My issue is what precisely is funny about Jimmy savile?

OP posts:
GraysAnalogy · 20/04/2015 17:43

You're right MrsPatrick

chiefbrody · 20/04/2015 18:09

Inappropriate.

But then some teachers are idiots.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 20/04/2015 18:21

Completely inappropriate. I too do not see what's funny about Jimmy Saville either. Confused
Why would you even speak that dirty beast's nsme around children.
If she thinks his behaviour is funny. She and the school needs looking at and quickly. Imo.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 20/04/2015 18:22

I remember Strathclyde Lecturers Take Prostitutes To The Central Hotel from uni... but Jimmy Saville used in a mnemonic for school children is soooo inappropriate!

vanillabananashake · 20/04/2015 21:25

But why would someone, think a paedophile, would be funny or appropriate?

OP posts:
Chocolatefudgebrownieicecream · 20/04/2015 21:29

Gray we had: oh oh oh to touch and feel virginal girls vaginas and hymens. ?? OP yanbu, that's not funny at all.

Sparklingbrook · 20/04/2015 21:31

Do Year 7s even know who JS was? Wouldn't they be 8ish when he died and he wasn't on childrens' telly then or anything.

GraysAnalogy · 20/04/2015 21:32

We don't know vanilla we're agreeing with you but we don't know the answer.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 20/04/2015 21:32

Completely inappropriate.

YANBU

vanillabananashake · 20/04/2015 21:55

Yes, of course they know who he is. I don't know - I suppose I wonder if it's worth taking further.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 20/04/2015 22:00

Yes, of course they know who he is

Every single 11/12 year old child in the class knew who JS was? How do you know? I am not sure about that.

DS2 is 13, if he wasn't in bed I would ask him if he knows.

Rivercam · 20/04/2015 22:03

Inappropriate. There's other JS abbreviations they could use, or they could make one up.

Jelly Smells
Jam Sandwiches

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 20/04/2015 22:07

Of course it's worth taking it further, vanilla. If you feel strongly enough about it

Sparklingbrook · 20/04/2015 22:09

Yes, just make sure that's exactly what was said and send an email to the Head of Dept or HOY.

Have you spoken to any other parents about it?

Sheitgeist · 20/04/2015 22:09

Jimmy Savile is funny in the same way that Ian Huntley or Ian Brady are, i.e. not at all. Can't believe how often - including today on the nasty celebs thread - I read new, awful things about him.
This teachers idiocy is making light of a horrific individual's horrific actions towards literally hundreds of children and women.
I'd find it difficult not to say anything. YANBU.

vanillabananashake · 20/04/2015 22:12

Sparkling I didn't interview them, but let's say for arguments sakes you are right and my daughter and her friend are the ONLY ones who know Hmm

So TWO little girls learned today that sex abuse is a joke. That a serial sex abuser is funny, something to be laughed at. That hundreds if not thousands of children being hurt, harmed, humiliated and upset is a big joke.

I'd say that's two too many, myself.

Judging from the reaction of her classmates I would strongly argue that most of them do know who JS is. Whether your DS knows or not is hardly the point.
