Does anyone else with chomping intolerance also have ASMR?

Certain sounds and motions relax me so much it's like having the most blissful brain massage. I watch videos on youtube of people folding towels, cleaning hobs, and using spray bottles. Bliss.

A timely thread. My colleague behind me has just chomped her way through her daily apple. As a pp said it's that first enormous crunch then I'm bracing myself for the rest.
I also have rustling noises when people are rummaging through bags, and coughing. The l joys of an open plan office [sad ]

Indantherene · 20/04/2015 12:22

That would be hate, not have.

laurierf · 20/04/2015 12:52

squoosh - I just looked that up on youtube. I will do more investigation as there was one that definitely worked on me but also one where a woman was whispering but sounded like she had a clammy mouth making little clicking noises… argh! I had to switch off the radio the other day when a woman was being interviewed as I could hear her clicking clammy mouth!

CrohnicallyInflexible · 20/04/2015 13:34

laurie same here, I found a whispering video but the woman was making a funny whistling sound as well as clicking as she spoke, I lasted about 30 seconds before I had to turn it off.

I'm slightly confused about the difference between asmr and 'tingles' from eg a moving piece of music. I do get a similar tingly feeling to certain tactile stimuli.

squoosh · 20/04/2015 13:40

Oh yes the whispering that some of the ASMR people do drives me up the wall. Want to reach through the screen and slap them.

reni1 · 27/04/2015 12:12

Bloke on the desk next to me is slurping pot noodles loudly and slowly today. I am quite irrational about it, why the blind fury? Squelch, sluuuurp, glug.

windchime · 27/04/2015 13:33

I get pissed off in the cinema when the family next to me hands out picnic items for the whole film, chomp loudly, discuss the food amongst themselves and chuck rubbish everywhere. Some people just should not be allowed out in public.

Notyouagaintoday · 27/04/2015 13:47

I didn't know this had a name.
It drives me batty listening to crunching noises, slurps or any eating really. Boiled sweets bring crunched .... Well that sends me into a rage.
Also. Whistling.

helenahandbag · 27/04/2015 13:53

I can't stand it, DP is like a horse with a polo mint and I can't stand to be in the same room as him when he eats. He told me last week that I was crunching a salad too loudly and I went off on one - I sit through entire meals with him slurping soup, rattling cutlery around his teeth and chomping but I don't say anything Angry

I nearly swallowed my tongue while waiting at a set of traffic lights on my lunch hour because the woman next to me was making smacking sounds eating a sandwich. A sandwich! How can you smack a sandwich around your gob?!

Saltybutterandjam · 27/04/2015 13:55

YANBU. The morning I was waiting for a blood test to see if my ivf had worked, I went to my usual cafe and there was a woman with loads of bags and a voluminous crinkly mac sitting in MY seat, eating and making gobbly nom nom noises. I wanted to KILL her.

(IVF had worked, I was v hormonal!)

proudmummywife · 27/04/2015 17:50

My husband drives me mad wither his eating he smacks his lips together.. I have to leave the room.
