So i started a new job a few months back, very big jump in responsibility and have dedicated blood sweat and tears to getting the business moving.

There was two of us who started, unfortunately the person employed as my manager turned out to be terrible at her job she was neglectful and i was constantly doing both our jobs.

They told me they will be moving her and demoting her into another part of the business, which they did and i have been promoted to being the Manager.

I now have a member of staff as a floating member from the other part of the business which is far from ideal

So have you got another job to go to?

beeslovehoney · 18/04/2015 23:06

I posted to soon somehow.

However, this member of staff has told me that they mistreat their staff after a while. I brushed it off, however i have been told that the Manager and deputy of the other business were sat discussing me personally in front of other members of staff.

I have been watching and being wary of what the staff tell me, however i now believe this to be the case.

The owner (manager of the other business) has this week been extremely rude to me, she has attempted to make me look stupid in front of other people.

I have not been given a new contract for my new role, and have been told that i have to wait 6 weeks.

I have a feeling that they are training up the person they demoted and are going to bring her back, as i have no idea how they convinced her to step down without a promise of something

I really don't want my first role in this level of my profession to end with my name dragged through the mud, so think it is best for me to walk away asap.

Aibu to walk away and leave them to figure it out for themselves? I have done everything to build up this new business, i have worked hours and hours and gone over and above for them to disrespect me in front of other members of staff..

Huh?Confused

FarFromAnyRoad · 18/04/2015 23:08

Walk. It and they sound toxic.

ilovesooty · 18/04/2015 23:12

What were you doing before? Have you got another job to go to? Will you get references from your previous employer? All these would affect my answer.

beeslovehoney · 18/04/2015 23:37

Before i took this job i was self employed, i could go back to it but i have a qualification which can get me another job very easily.

I can survive just walking away, but no i wouldn't get a reference from them probably.

Without a contract i think i don't have to give notice do i?

OP posts:
HowDoesThatWork · 18/04/2015 23:39

Ask them what is going on.

beeslovehoney · 18/04/2015 23:45

I have and it gets brushed off, with an oh we have 6 weeks to make a new contract.

It seems that they do mistreat staff, they are very unprofessional about people and discuss personal things about staff.

PoppyFleur · 19/04/2015 07:44

Leave. They are showing and telling you what they are really like as people and as an organisation, believe them & leave.

beeslovehoney · 19/04/2015 08:02

poppy do you think i should give notice?

OP posts:
bobajob · 19/04/2015 08:06

If you've had no contract at all give them a week's notice.

alittleegglayonaleaf · 19/04/2015 08:13

I would leave as I watched this happen to many people in my last job - better to leave with dignity and find a role for a company who treat their staff with the respect they deserve

alittleegglayonaleaf · 19/04/2015 08:14

Especially if they've made their reputation as being like this - it's not for nothing that you're seeing the same pattern repeated

londonrach · 19/04/2015 08:17

If you can afford to id leave. Find out your rights first re notice and pay. Dont use them as a reference as only been there short time just say temp job or dont mention it.

beeslovehoney · 19/04/2015 08:47

I am going to wait until i have been paid as it's only another week, they don't pay by bacs the manager just transfers money from the business account into everyones bank accounts on the pay day.

The girl i have working for me told me someone once left a few days before and they didn't pay her for about 8 weeks!! So i definitely don't want to run that risk.

I am so sad this has happened as i was absolutely loving it Sad

Check if the terms of your previous contract (at lower level) apply until the new one is issued?

Aeroflotgirl · 19/04/2015 09:41

I would leave, if they are doing this, they will not admit it.,

Chocolateteabag · 19/04/2015 09:50

Maybe check in the Employment section but I would assume you are still under the terms of your previous contract?

However 6 weeks to write a new contract? That sounds like total rubbish to me.

Make sure you have documented all conversations, print out all emails relating to work (ie get your side in order), get paid then leave.

If they hold you to your notice period of your current contract then you may just have to tough it out.

chickenfuckingpox · 19/04/2015 10:39

I would go and get your start date to be as close to your pay day as possible

hidingfromthem · 19/04/2015 11:08

i would walk.
i would drop them right in the shit and i would loving it.
but then i'm like that.

Branleuse · 19/04/2015 11:22

drop them in the shit. Fuckers

ragged · 19/04/2015 11:32

A lot of hearsay in there... I think if you've got a bad gut feeling then turn in your notice. If the rumours are packs of lies they should beg you to stay, else you'll be better shot of them.

SweetAndFullOfGrace · 19/04/2015 11:33

If you are being paid then you do have a contract, even if it's a verbal one. In which case you're probably bound by the statutory minimum notice period of one week - CAB link.

Also did your previous contract get cancelled? I would assume you're still under that? A new role doesn't always require a contract, it depends on things like how the job descriptions are phrased etc.

beeslovehoney · 19/04/2015 14:14

I was thinking it is all hear say, but then I've heard it from more than one person.

My role went from being a deputy to being the manager so possibly the contracts are not much difference.

I have to give one weeks notice based on my old contract..

The other thing aswell, the manager they moved into the other business was demoted however kept her salary the same, i asked if my salary would be increased and was told no but the person they are looking at recruiting to be my deputy would be coming in on the same salary as me.. Is this legal??
