AIBU to hope this fashion for very long hair dies soon?!

A light hearted one..

Just back from taking the younger DDs for their back to school hair cut.

Neither DD3 (14) nor DD4 (11) wanted a hair cut at all. Both insisted on the world's tiniest trim. DD3 has hair which is past her waist already.

AIBU to hope this trend passes soon? The hair doesn't look nice, it goes thin and scratty past a certain length on just about everyone. It's not practical - she virtually never ties it back so it's always flopping around and drives me and her teachers mad. It costs a fortune in conditioner. I accept that long hair is pretty, but surely just below bra strap length is much nicer?!

Went from bra strap to shoulder length today and I love it. I did not want to be one of those 16-60 women I read about (on here).

musicalendorphins2 · 18/04/2015 07:45

FanFuckingTastic how cute are you?! The purple suits you.

fulltothebrim · 18/04/2015 07:47

I think it is beautiful.

Every one of the girls in my DDs dance class has very long hair, sometimes on stage they will gance with free flowing hair- it looks stunning.

MidniteScribbler · 18/04/2015 07:50

Mine is bra strap length, and I have no intention of changing it. My mother made me get a bob in high school and

MidniteScribbler · 18/04/2015 07:51

Oops cut off!

It was a disaster. My hair goes curly in to ringlets. I need the weight of the length of keep it from going curly.

Iggly · 18/04/2015 07:53

You all sound like your parents did when you were teens Grin

As a teen we all had the same type of hairstyles or tried too with the odd person being an outlier.

My dd has thick curly hair - she asks for an Elsa style Hmm which I attempt but in all honesty, I tell her her curly hair is awesome etc etc and she gets plenty of comments about it so I'm sure she won't be following trends as she gets older I hope but if she does, so be it.

wasabipeanut · 18/04/2015 09:19

My 5 year old has a chin length bob. She has naturally fine but poker straight honey blonde hair and looks incredibly chic and cool. Needs a quick trim every 6 weeks but it's only a fiver a pop at the walk in place and she doesn't mind at all. I'm bracing myself for the request for long hair like all her mates.

Jackieharris · 18/04/2015 09:27

I'm starting to wonder if this trend is linked to porn.

I don't watch it but in imagine most porn performers have long hair?

Royalsighness · 18/04/2015 09:32

Wtf jackieharris?

GraduallyGoneInsane · 18/04/2015 09:35

Shudder I hope it's not linked to porn. I think it's just because they all want to be identical.

I'm not going to make them cut it, I'm not that mean (I have memories of my Dmum giving me a bob age 13, I was traumatised!) but I wish they would either plait it/tie it back, or have a good six inches off.

Fan, that hair is fantastic! You look fabulous!

I have very short hair, and good bone structure... and very cold ears. Grin

fatlazymummy · 18/04/2015 09:35

Personally I don't like very long hair, even when it's thick and in great condition. Bra strap length is long enough, imo. I prefer it tied back or up, as well ,at least for everyday.
It's just a fashion though, and they come and go. I was young in the 80's, when curly perms ruled. How many people go to the hairdressers nowadays and ask for a curly perm?

EmeraldThief · 18/04/2015 09:37

The fad in the 90's seemed to be bobs or shoulder length hair, always curled under at the ends. I don't rememeber anyone at my high school with really long, flaxen hair.

JigsawsAreAllLittlePieces · 18/04/2015 09:38

I had my waist length hair cut to shoulder length a few weeks ago.
I love it. So much more bounce and natural wave.

Not as keen on the grey natural highlights though... must return them to my normal hair colour. Whatever number box that is in Superdrug. Grin

Royalsighness · 18/04/2015 09:41

I asked for my hair to be cut in a bob with a fringe as a 12 year old as the hairdresser had a copy of pulp fiction on video kicking round and I loved umas hair!

wasabipeanut · 18/04/2015 09:42

I don't think it links directly to porn but I do think the mainstream "look" that all Tweens & teens seem to aspire to is that very glossy, long hair on head, hairless on rest of body, ultra groomed version of femininity. It's a very identikit look that is designed to look like no effort is involved whereas in fact it takes fucking ages.

It seems a handy way of keeping girls busy when they should be doing something more interesting.

mrssmith79 · 18/04/2015 09:55

My hair hangs about 6" below my bra line, it's a lovely natural colour, no greys yet and is so thick that I've been asked if I'm wearing extensions Shock. It's been long for most of my 36 years and I've got washing and styling down to a tee. I couldn't give a shiny shit about what the pudding bowl brigade think.
And Jackieharris , I'm totally bald of fanny too - can't say I've ever starred in a blue-y though Confused

bruffin · 18/04/2015 10:12

yes, the current trend with tweens and teenagers is for very long hair.
as long as they can get it.
similar to the 1970s.

In the second half of the 70s we were all going for birds nest perms or purdey bobs, or the charlies angels flick back.

ASorcererIsAWizardSquared · 18/04/2015 10:14

my hairs pretty long, its just below my bra back strap. i loathe short hair.

i did it briefly when i was in my teens, and then again about 6 years ago.. its just too much hassle to maintain.

I currently have it dip-dyed and it spends the majority of time in a messy bun or a pony tail, i have it down occasionally and people always remark how nice it looks. i probably get it trimmed twice a year at most.

cluecu · 18/04/2015 12:40

I saw Cheryl's (can't remember spelling of her married name) new haircut t'other day and wondered if that might start toinfluence teens to go for shorter styles now?

fatlazymummy · 18/04/2015 13:02

cluecu just googled Cheryl's hair, I love it. Think she looks gorgeous (though she'd probably look great with any style).

squoosh · 18/04/2015 13:06

I wonder if she still has that bloody awful Mrs Cole tattoo on the back of her neck? Surely not if she's gone for the chop.

OsloGin · 18/04/2015 13:08

I used to have long hair. Then I had it accidentally cut into a long bob A couple of years ago. Then a friend of mine complimented my new hair saying 'looks much better shorter. Only women with good faces can get away with long hair past their 20s'. Tumbleweed moment ensued.

My hair is very short but I want long hair at times so I wear a half wig when I want long hair! People who don't know it isn't my hair are shocked when I tell them it's a wig and it looks great.
