AIBU to hope this fashion for very long hair dies soon?!

A light hearted one..

Just back from taking the younger DDs for their back to school hair cut.

Neither DD3 (14) nor DD4 (11) wanted a hair cut at all. Both insisted on the world's tiniest trim. DD3 has hair which is past her waist already.

AIBU to hope this trend passes soon? The hair doesn't look nice, it goes thin and scratty past a certain length on just about everyone. It's not practical - she virtually never ties it back so it's always flopping around and drives me and her teachers mad. It costs a fortune in conditioner. I accept that long hair is pretty, but surely just below bra strap length is much nicer?!

DD's hair is waist length and she has no plans to have it cut anytime soon. She cares for it really well and it looks lovely. It's also her choice.

Mine was the same but I had it cut when DD was born. Wish I hadn't now.

DoTheDuckFace · 17/04/2015 21:49

I have long hair, wow I am fashionable!!
DD is 7 and wants her long hair cut to a Bob.

SingingHinnies · 17/04/2015 21:55

My dd had waist length hair then lopped it off at senior school as it wasn't fashionable, it was still long but much shorter, she loved it, got a sweeping fringe and some layers. I made her cut it once at primary from waist length to a bob (a nit problem which went on months but took me hours to sort out every time she got them off the girl she played with) and she had a meltdown, even her teacher said she's lost all her confidence, didn't help that she really didn't suit a bob. I regretted it straight away, does dd11 start seniors this year or is she already there. This is when my dd asked for it a bit shorter herself

revealall · 17/04/2015 21:59

Yes squish but you can have non styled long hair and still be in fashion. Much harder to do with short hair because if it's cut it's already been styled IYSWIM.

Nayville · 17/04/2015 22:06

YABU! Grin
Dd has beautifully long timotei advert hair, I adore it. But of a bugger to brush sometimes, and it needs a slight trim for split ends, but I love to see long hair on little girls.
I'm growing mine long aswell! It's already at bra strap. .

squoosh · 17/04/2015 22:13

I think little girls look adorable with a pixie cut but they're pretty rare these days. They all seem to have long hair.

Flywheel · 17/04/2015 22:15

I don't like how it looks. DD(6) wants it long. I'm doing my best to dissuade her and really hope the fashion comes to an end before it approaches her waist.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 17/04/2015 22:18

well a few of the girls around here have hair extensions, ages 14yrs

Surely, it would be cheaper to just let it grow normally?

squoosh · 17/04/2015 22:21

Extensions are quicker.

Tanith · 17/04/2015 22:22

Count yourself lucky! DD, aged 5, was asked how she wanted her hair cut and said:

"I'd like blonde hair and blue eyes like Elsa, please!"

Not a hope in hell of that happening Grin

RusticBlush · 17/04/2015 22:24

It all depends on what you suit...we all have different face shapes Hmm
I've only ever suited long hair yet my friend totally rocks a pixie cut - we would look daft with eachothers hair 'do's' Grin

Monica101 · 17/04/2015 22:25

I've had waist length hair since I was 10. I've just cut it to bra strap length last month at 35. It is such a relief and now I want to go shorter to a lob.

Long hair looks magnificent when it's washed and in my case straightened but it was too time consuming and I found it a bit oppressive in the end.

DD who is 2.10 has a chin length bob. Imo it looks cute and chic but I am aware that it's quite an unfashionable hair style for a little girl. The vast majority have long hair.

squoosh · 17/04/2015 22:27

Yes, very short hair usually only suits people with amazing bone structure. A bit of length hides a multitude.

wanderings · 17/04/2015 22:31

A good friend of mine says her mum made her have her hair cut when she was 18, and it has never since grown back as long as it was before. She is now 31.

She has never forgiven her mum for this; it is one reason (of a few) she has been non-contact with her mum for nearly ten years.

squoosh · 17/04/2015 22:33

The fact she was dictating to an 18 year old as to her hairstyle does sound quite odd.

squoosh · 17/04/2015 22:34

Very odd in fact.

liveloveluggage · 17/04/2015 22:34

tanith awww! I bet the hairdresser felt sorry she couldn't do that for her!

RusticBlush · 17/04/2015 22:40

Ha - do you know me squoosh
Yes my friend has amazing bone structure - I'm just a bit more 'tousled' Grin

squoosh · 17/04/2015 22:46

As much as I love pixie cuts if I had one I know I'd look less like Emma Willis and more like George Osbourne!

Goldrill · 17/04/2015 22:51

It's not just teens: most of the girls at nursery with my DDs have long hair. I got DD1's hair cut into a short and practical bob last year (aged 3) and it was seen as a bit odd!

I've usually had waist length hair as an adult, but very low maintenance; trying to brush melted cheese out of DD1's was the deciding moment in getting hers cropped.

FanFuckingTastic · 17/04/2015 22:54

I'm short, carry extra weight and have a round face. For so long I fought with my hair, it's exceptionally fine and looks greasy hours after washing because it's so thin. I thought I couldn't pull off short hair because of my face shape, but it got to the point where I couldn't stand straggly ratty hair full of split ends, so I shaved my head. Now I get it cut every so often and keep it fairly short. More people should try it, I love my hair no, it's so low maintenance!

AIBU to hope this fashion for very long hair dies soon?!
SingingHinnies · 17/04/2015 22:55

ive always had my hair long as an adult apart from twice, once i got it cut into a graduated bob but grew it back as it took too long to style and once when i was 22. I have got naturally very dark drown hair, for some mad reason i decided i wanted it cut short and bleached blonde, i ended up looking exactly like Myra Hindley, bottle blonde in a very unflattering longish short cut, shaved up the back and longer on the top but because my hair is so thick with a kink i couldn't do it like the hairdresser had styled it so it ended up looking like her style, a big buffont blonde mess, this was before straightmer's so i could never get it looking sleek. I then bought a brown dye and ended up with green hair so had to go back to the hairdressers who cut it very short and dyed it red. I couldn't wait for it to grow so i could tie it back. I have never snce went lighter than copper as i just dont suit blonde hair

SingingHinnies · 17/04/2015 22:57

brown hair not drown hair

NeverTalksToStrangers · 17/04/2015 23:03

I can't wait for this fecking trend to feck off.

I have an absolutely stunning looking 17 yo niece, with too straggly looking long hair. She would look amazing if it was any other length. The sort of face that could carry anything off (and a size 6 figure). Bitch.

AnnaFiveTowns · 17/04/2015 23:05

Yanbu. It's awful. My dd is 9 and wants it as long as it will grow. We had tears last time I cut it so I've now relented, I can't be arsed to argue about it anymore, and I'm just going to let her do whatever. But she has straggly, fine hair and, frankly, it looks a mess!

Where has this from? Is the porno look, along with the fake eyelashes?
