He hates peeling potatoes so he'd rather peel a few big ones rather than lots of smaller ones but this means we have no big ones left for baking! These is LTB material right? :)

We had skin on mash tonight, we like it that way.
I also bake spuds in the microwave, ten or fifteen minutes depending on the size and then a few minutes in the oven to crisp them off.
Mmmmmmash.....

I just bake the potatoes then scoop the mash out. No peeling, and potato skins for the next day.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/04/2015 20:29

I have reached a whole new low. I'm just pinched the kids choc buttons and squished them before cramming them in my mouth.

bigfam · 15/04/2015 20:33

Surely this is a joke. I've never ever ever heard of or done mash with skins on? I swear to god I'm trying this tomorrow

bumbleymummy · 15/04/2015 20:33

mashed chocolate Needs? Grin

No joke bigfam, I just think most people are stuck in their peeling ways :)

New potatoes mashed with the skins on are even yummier!

bigfam · 15/04/2015 20:43

Oh my god if I wasn't exhausted from running round after kids all day I'd go out and buy all types of potatoes and have a cooking marathon. This is my new mission when they're back at school

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/04/2015 20:53

Yes bumbley I clearly need a stern talking to.

On the upside it could have been mashed skittles but they looked a little troublesome what with the mashing requirement

Orangeanddemons · 15/04/2015 20:57

But does the skin mash up? Like the rest of the spuds? Or do you get mash with bits of skin in? I've never heard of mashing them with skin on.

pinningwobble · 15/04/2015 20:59

Yes mashes up really well as long as you boil them for ages (I always do when boiling potatoes for mash). You do get some bits of skin yes but tastes yummy. I am a lumpy mash girl so doesn't bother me. If lumps bother you you could use a hand blender - skin gets blended in too :)

bigfam · 15/04/2015 21:01

I'm afraid a kebab will have to suffice tonight, I'll get on the multiple mashing tomorrow

bumbleymummy · 15/04/2015 21:27

mmmmm kebab.

I've been instructed to only buy bags with lots of big potatoes in, precisely because there's less peeling involved. DH does all the cooking for the grown-ups. Is it lazy? I think it's just common sense.

BathshebaDarkstone · 15/04/2015 21:35

Spaghetti and cheese Tali.

bigfam · 15/04/2015 21:41

I'm still waiting for my kebab whilst having intermittent power cuts and shitting myself....

nocoolnamesleft · 15/04/2015 21:42

I love new potatoes mashed up with their skin. But if I wanted to sound posh, I might call it crushed potato... Grin

liveloveluggage · 15/04/2015 21:42

I dont like mash with bits of skin in. Nigella says put them through a potato ricer skin on and it removes skin. The best mash i ever had was pommes puree in a French restaurant they use about a tonne of butter.

BinToHellAndBack · 16/04/2015 12:04

We lways make mashed potato with the skin on (unless someone else is coming for dinner). It's because I'm incredibly lazy for the extra fibre Grin.

Skin on mash is especially good as fish pie topping.

bigfam · 16/04/2015 12:08

Do u need a decent masher, mines shite

mrssnodge · 16/04/2015 12:21

A few weeks ago I scraped loads of small jersey royals to go with lovely leg of lamb & mint sauce of course- and I left them in water until was ready to use them later then I left DP in charge of doing rest of veg- including some 'normal potatoes~ for roasties .
Came back in and yep! , he was roasting the painfully scraped jersey royals and had boiled the other tatties for mash?? WTF!!!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/04/2015 12:24
