He hates peeling potatoes so he'd rather peel a few big ones rather than lots of smaller ones but this means we have no big ones left for baking! These is LTB material right? :)

You peel potatoes! I cook all potatoes every way with their skins on they taste nicer..

bumbleymummy · 15/04/2015 18:54

I would go for cheese and tuna then Tali (maybe with a little bit of onion if you like it - I loooove onions)

No onion unfortunately. Will chuck a load of cucumber in with it though.

bumbleymummy · 15/04/2015 18:55

I have never heard of this before! How have I gone through life not knowing that you could make mash without peeling potatoes?! How many hours have I wasted!

The skin has goodness in it

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 15/04/2015 18:56

Sure, I just made them tonight. I also make mine in the microwave in a big glass bowl and just put a glug of milk, etc in and mash. Lazy, delicious mashed potatoes.

liveloveluggage · 15/04/2015 18:57

Only if you like your mash with bits of skin in it for texture.

Mrsstarlord · 15/04/2015 18:59

Just read this post to DH
DH: I do that!
Me: Yes I know, I wrote the post
DH: Did you?

Erm, no..... but I should have Grin

FiveLittlePeas · 15/04/2015 19:02

He peels potatoes? Hasn't he heard that boiling them with the skin on is a) better for you and b) much, much easier to peel after? (even hot). I don't peel tatties anymore.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 15/04/2015 19:04

That was cruel Starlord Grin

You cook them in the microwave? Why have I not thought of this? Cover with lid/cling film?

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 15/04/2015 19:08

I bake potatoes for mash. Oil up skins and bake until fluffy, then get children to scrape out the middles with a spoon, and let them dunk the skins in ketchup as a reward. Ready made mash, no peeling, better flavour, no waste, no water logged mash.

bumbleymummy · 15/04/2015 19:08

I do like the skin when I bake them. I just never thought you could make mash with the skin on. Something new I've learned from MN! where's that thread? :)

If you have a potato ricer you can microwave the potatoes and put them in skin on (I cut them in half and do half at a time) and out comes nice fluffy skinless mash. No peeling or boiling required!

bumbleymummy · 15/04/2015 19:14

Microwave has died and I don't think we're replacing it so we'll have to stick with boiling for now. So I take it you could just boil all the little ones whole? Or would there be too much of a skin:mash ratio then?

NeedsAsockamnesty · 15/04/2015 19:20

Bastards I now want mash, mashed anything will do

Shosha1 · 15/04/2015 19:21

Bake the potatoes. Scoop out interior for mash. Salt and pepper oil skins put back in oven.

Yum

bumbleymummy · 15/04/2015 19:23

ooooh Shosha - crispy salt and pepper skins. I like that!

Sorry Needs!

Yes, I learned this from Jamie Oliver. Cover with cling film. I microwave 2 large-ish ones for about 10 min, slice/drizzle with olive oil and finish in the broiler for 8 min or so. I haven't baked a potato in years.

GoodbyeToAllOfThat · 15/04/2015 19:30

bumbley I mash the little ones too. I suspect they're better for you because of the skin ratio.

In the US we have an entire industry devoted to potato skins, as I'm sure many of you know. They are delicious beyond compare.

Mrsstarlord · 15/04/2015 19:39

What's a broiler?

He did see the funny side in my defence Grin

pinningwobble · 15/04/2015 20:07

Definitely mash with the skin on, it makes no difference at all and it's so much quicker :)

londonrach · 15/04/2015 20:11

Mashed potatoes taste so much nicer with the skin on. I now want mash!!!!

Feminine · 15/04/2015 20:17

Broiler is the grill. mrs

Lilylonglegs · 15/04/2015 20:20

Mash with the skin on the the best! And even better the smaller they are as you get loads so skin, add some butter, cream, smoked cheddar and spring onions and YUM!
