To send dd's back to school in summer uniform tomorrow

I find myself in the predicament every year. Should I, shouldn't I? Judging by today's weather I'm not sure it's warm enough and I dont want them to be the only ones, but they really want to wear them and I honestly don't want to iron the winter uniform Wink who else is sending kids back to school tomorrow in summer uniform or are you waiting?

Yes...once Easters been and gone its 'knees out' in our house, although not for the teen Hmm

Well I've got all my summer "teacher" clothes out from the vacuum bag that's stored under the bed and packed up my thermals and woollen jumpers - so its bound to get much colder and rain constantly now Wink.

Poor old DS2 - he loved his school shorts so much he wore them all year last year - even in January - I think it was a bet with a mate.

He can't wear them any more now he's at secondary :( has to keep his blazer on too.

DiamondDoris · 12/04/2015 23:43

Mine are still at home for this week. I think I'll decide the evening before - with DS, he can wear his polo shirt with long trousers if breezy - I really don't think it'll be shorts weather for a while (despite the "heatwave"). DD will probably want to wear her summer dress and if it's nippy she can still wear tights with them. I ignore parentmails dictating when the kids should wear their summer uniforms - one year it was a rather chilly start to the summer term and I sent them in their winter uniforms. It's temperatures that count not the season/month. I really need to check that their summer uniforms still fit this week!

blackheartsgirl · 13/04/2015 00:23

mine are going back in summer uniform, I pop tights on them and they have thick cardigans if the weather is a bit nippy.

m0therofdragons · 13/04/2015 00:34

Bollocks I haven't bought summer uniform yet! Duh hadn't occurred to me. Guess mines going back in winter uniform! She does have short sleeve shirts though Blush

Compulsory at dd's school from easter. I find this a bit odd as it might not be warm enough but I think if they don't set a date some parents might not buy it at all.

It's compulsary for my DDs to go into summer uniform after Easter, including ankle socks. They're secondary too, so their skirts tend towards knicker length not knee length. So far, none of the girls have died, and DD1 and DD2 got to the end of their school career without any hypothermia.

mysteryfairy · 13/04/2015 08:43

My DSs went to a prep with a year round uniform of shorts and survived. DD had no choice but to wear the summer dress after Easter at her school. I think it's character building or something!

18yearstooold · 13/04/2015 09:05

My year 6 dd wouldn't be seen dead in summer uniform so i'm glad it's not compulsory

DeeWe · 13/04/2015 09:54

My girls have usually gone in Summer dresses some point after Spring half term until the October half term. They prefer them.

However if you're worried you could always do what my dm used to do, which was let me wear a summer dress with a polo neck jumper underneath. I still hate polo necks and never wear them. She was a firm believer in "ne'er cast a clout until May be out".
She may be warm but she'll remember how much she hated it for a long time.

esiotrot2015 · 13/04/2015 09:56

My dd will only wear trousers every day of the year Hmm

balletgirlmum · 13/04/2015 15:01

I think when it's compulsory everyone is in the same boat so there isn't the feeling of not wanting to be seen dead in a summer dress.

SwirlyThingAlert · 13/04/2015 19:57

Not here, it's bloody freezing! (Yorkshire)

CalleighDoodle · 13/04/2015 20:14

Ive got mine her summer uniform. She wears a vest, cardi and has over knee socks

ElviraCondomine · 14/04/2015 09:55

DD2 can't get dresses to fit any more - she's 5'6" and would need age 15 for the height (and they mostly stop at 11-12)

She's gone in short sleeved shirt, knee length skirt, cardigan and cotton tights, with a pair of short socks in her bag for if it gets too hot for tights.

SoonToBeSix · 14/04/2015 10:38

Elvira they sell age 15 on eBay brand new.
