To send dd's back to school in summer uniform tomorrow

I find myself in the predicament every year. Should I, shouldn't I? Judging by today's weather I'm not sure it's warm enough and I dont want them to be the only ones, but they really want to wear them and I honestly don't want to iron the winter uniform Wink who else is sending kids back to school tomorrow in summer uniform or are you waiting?

I'm not - partly because it's freezing, partly because she hasn't got a summer dress yet! Winter uniform - if it gets warm she can take her jumper off and wear socks instead of tights.

poocatcherchampion · 12/04/2015 17:39

I would. Toddlers are officially out of rights for the year. No one will die from it.

HamishBamish · 12/04/2015 17:41

YANBU. Ours go back to school in summer uniform after Easter no matter whatever the weather. It's just what happens.

clary · 12/04/2015 17:51

Ahh I miss the red and white checked summer dress.

Even DD (she is 13) does, we were admiring them in M&S the other day :D

Yes OP it's summer. No tights and summer frocks!

HighwayDragon · 12/04/2015 17:58

Why not judge on a day by day basis? Before term ended dd was in shorts one day, dress and tights the next bloody uk weather!

pissedglitter · 12/04/2015 18:11

Thankfully our kids wear the same uniform all year round

justalittlelemondrizzle · 12/04/2015 18:14

Thanks everyone! Wasn't expecting so many responses.. I think I'll chance it and send them in the summer dresses but with knee high socks. May end up ironing the other uniform just incase, and stand at the window to see what others are wearing as they walk past, hehe!

Mine will choose. Our school are very laid back so they can wear any version of the uniform at any time Grin Some wear gingham dresses in winter with tights. Knowing my DD it will be trousers and jumper again.

Carikube · 12/04/2015 18:36

If it's any consolation, DD1 wore her summer uniform throughout the winter - the only concession she made was wearing tights on the really cold days. She refuses to wear her winter uniform so I've stopped buying it (her school has no rules about when to switch from one to the other)

Hulababy · 12/04/2015 18:58

At DD's primary school you could choose to wear summer uniform from Easter, and then it was compulsory from May half term. DD always went back after Easter in summer uniform, without fail.

Stealthpolarbear · 12/04/2015 19:00

threads do vary
most mn threads seem to expect you to send your child kitted out for any combination of weather
so you send sun lotion and an all in one wetsuit for the pouring rain plus fur lined boots for the snow. all on the same day.

Zippidydoodah · 12/04/2015 19:02

My dd was in hers for a couple of weeks before Easter! With tights on chilly days. Her tights are the same colour as the checks on her dress Smile

No change here DS2 has worn his shorts all winter! I've had some very strange looks from parents and teachers but it's been his choice - he says it's too hot in the school buildings and he puts a coat on at playtime.

TheBossness · 12/04/2015 19:08

My DD has been wearing her summer dresses most of the year and we live in Scotland.

iwouldgoouttonight · 12/04/2015 19:17

I think it's a bit odd that some schools have rules that you have to wear summer uniform from now, it's been known to snow in April. Surely you just wear what's appropriate for each particular day.

Having said that DD's school is boiling and she's been in summer dresses (with tights) all winter, just puts a coat on at playtime. She always seems warm, she was in the garden today saying she was warm in a strappy sun dress while I had hoodie and coat on. Grin

Kitsandkids · 12/04/2015 19:36

My boys were very excited when I bought them some school shorts a few weeks ago and were thrilled when I said, a few days ago, they might be able to wear them after the hols. Since then though the weather has been rubbish so we might stick to trousers. We have got another week to go though so hopefully the weather will improve.

chrome100 · 12/04/2015 19:51

It's been 8 degrees and pissing it down here today (Yorkshire) so I wouldn't!

23pairs · 12/04/2015 20:15

Yep, 5 degrees up here in Northumberland today and frost predicted overnight so it's going to be winter uniforms for them tomorrow!

SoonToBeSix · 12/04/2015 20:18

Mine are still off for another week but I imagine they would be teased if they didn't wear their summer uniform.

I knew I had forgotten something...knee high socks!!
Mine don't go back for another week...phew.
Summer uniform has been seen and my dd is desperate to wear it. It's her last summer term at this school so we had better make the most of it Smile
