Is this name too old-fashioned?

Not pregnant but I really love the name Seth and Alexander for the middle name so Seth Alexander. If I ever have a son, I want to call him this. I told my mum and she pulled a face and mentioned an old man from emmerdale Shock.

So, what do you all think of this name?

So now, OP, we know there are two kinds of people in the world: those who when they hear the name Seth think Emmerdale and those who hear the name Seth and think Cold Comfort Farm.

I'm in the latter camp. I wouldn't use it.

One of my DS's friends is a lovely little Seth. Nice name.

treaclesoda · 11/04/2015 08:44

I like it. The only Seth I've known personally is a small child. Wouldn't have got the Emmerdale connection at all, I didn't know about that.

I think of Seth as quite a fashionable name, not an old fashioned one.Smile

It's boils down to 2 simple points in my view - what you like and what the mil thinks. And without starting a mil bashing thread (that's a whole different discussion), we jokingly said that we were going to have Horatio as a middle name: instant cats bum face from mil! But the more we thought about it, the more we wanted it.

She still tuts and mutters about it and we simply smile in response which seems to annoy her more!

LynetteScavo · 11/04/2015 09:03

It's not old fashioned.

I really don't like it, though.

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/04/2015 09:09

I like it, a lot.

Have liked Seth for years (I may have heen slightly influence by The OC as a teen Smile) and think Seth Alexander sounds great.

Seth doesn't go at all with my surname otherwise it would most certainly be on the list for any future boys.

They are absolutely lovely names, I know a few Stans, George, Freddies, Elsie, and Audry. It see,s as though the old fashioned names are coming back.

Apart from making me wonder about 'something nasty in the woodshed' I can't see what's wrong with it.

hennybeans · 11/04/2015 11:00

I know an 8 year old Seth. Lovely boy. Nice names.

YouMakeMyHeartSmile · 11/04/2015 11:01

I know a 7 year old Seth William. I like it.

LadyGlen · 11/04/2015 11:15

I love the name Seth.

And I am old enough to remember Seth Armstrong (the actor came from round these parts and was occasionally to be seen round and about).

There can't be a name in existence that doesn't have negative connotations for someone, somewhere. You can't avoid the fact that lots of names are used for nice/nasty/criminal/saintly characters in books or films, either.

If you like it, go for it.

LemonYellowSun · 11/04/2015 11:33

I think they go really well together
