To be dubious of "stampy longnose/stampy cat" minecraft persona

If i allowed it, my DD would plug herself into her kindle all day and watch what sounds like a lunatic, wittering and laughing away to himself, describing what he has built or scenes in minecraft.

It SOUNDS like an adult man, in fact it sort of sounds like a cross between Angus Deyton, jimmy carr and basil faulty.

Is this person actually brainwashing children?

Disclaimer - the whole point of minecraft is totally lost on me so maybe im being unfair

Grin MrsTodds! Oh no!!

Aww Metallic I had this image of an old bloke who was addicted to the adventures of Stampy and co and would faithfully fire up his computer every morning with a cuppa just to watch. I could sort of imagine my FIL doing that, except he would look askance at anything even vaguely related to a love garden.

Youarekiddingme - I took a decision not to pass that on. I thought dd might start pressuring me to beg for more info in a very unseemly manner!

Yy, dd also v keen to feature in the Love Garden.

Haha! I don't actually know the guy. It's only because my DS was talking to my cousin about stampy this all came out. Him and stampy have been friends for over 10'years. But only as ex college classmates iyswim? I only know about car because he posted something about thanks for sorting car on my cousins Fb and obviously I saw the post.

YABU. I know bugger all about minecraft, but from what I've seen of Stampy he is obviously a very creative and intelligent young man. Good for him.

PrimroseVilliers · 11/04/2015 09:39

I found the whole Minecraft thing better for my 8 year old DS when I found him some buddies to play with! ( mumsnetter's children, in case you're interested! He s made one very nice little friend with a 10 year old and it's sweet to hear them chattering away to each other and building ) . With a friend or two playing in ' your world' it just makes the whole thing less solitary and he enjoys it a lot.

I'm careful though. He plays Minecraft on an Xbox in our living room so I can vaguely supervise and hear what's going on.

As for my views on Stampy ... Err I've grown used to him. I've had to!

ScorpioMermaid · 11/04/2015 09:39

My 2 and a half year old son is pretty tech savvy (as im sure most are) and he lives stampy as much as his older brothers and sisters. he can't use the xbox controller try as he might but he gets hold of one of the others tablets, puts youtube on and then plays the first 10 seconds of every stampy video he can find until he decides to watch one. We get about 30 'hellllooooo and welcome to stampys lovely world' over and over until my eye starts to twitch Grin

We met Stampy and Squid and they were a delight. Polite, lovely to the kids, interested etc. He's a nice man who found a niche and does it really well.

My DS and his friends seem to play games together, take turns to have roles and have great fun. It's great to hear some of the conversations (which normally end with a parent telling the kid to get off the XBox now)

Wow!! Where was that?

DS would love to meet them. He'd probably bow down and say "We are not worthy Grin

We love Stampy in this house too. My favourite is Diamond minecart though. There's a lovely thing on YouTube where he draws his life. It's so sweet. Talks about how it all started for him and getting married etc.

Tunna · 11/04/2015 10:10

Rather Stampy as a hero than some of the other so called celebrities that kids fawn over. He genuinely loves what he does, is respectful to his audience and hasn't as yet appeared on the sidebar of shame falling out of a nightclub surrounded by a bevy of glamma models

OrlandoWoolf · 11/04/2015 10:15

Just waiting for the fall of Stampy. I can see the DM headlines now.
