When I was 14 I used to wash my hair with the Body Shop camomile shampoo and study each strand intently for any changes. My bff would tell me 'oh yes, it's definitely lighter'.

It never got lighter.

You know, I thought about this very thing to day for my 5 year old. Probably not worth her burning her scalp for though! Her hair does blonde out in the sun anyway.

and yay for jilly cooper usernames, wanted to call dd2 Agatha then shorten to Taggie, might be slightly ok that he told me where to go with that one...

I had my first highlights at ten. Blush

My DS is 8. He used to be completely soft, curly, blonde. When he went to school he had it cut short. Now he's growing his curls again (his decision) and wants it blonder than it is (his hair has darkened).Blush

I not going to put harsh chemicals in his hair and it will get lighter as we get more sunlight, but is there anything we can use that will help?

My ExMIL done this to my kids when she took them to Turkey, worked quite well and looked very natural. The john freida be blonde stuff wrecks your hair, i thought the lemon worked better.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 11/04/2015 03:43

Oh god. My mum used to do that to us as kids. The only thing it did was make our hair feel nasty, wiry and it frazzled in the sunlight. I fucking hated it.

Squoosh - I remember trying the camomile stuff from the bodyshop which had actual flowers in it.

Smoosh - I love agatha! Am sure there is meant to be a new Jilly book this year but after the disappointment of her last one - well, I may just start re-reading riders etc.

If I can't be his wife, I'll be his bit on the side! Grin

Smooshface · 11/04/2015 10:33

haha brilliant RGG :D

Wicked! was forever ago now :( I quite enjoyed it, apart from the 'oh look, Rupert saves the day again' - i'm not sure it's necessary to crowbar him in as a hero all the time... as much as I luff him obviously
