to ask if I lose weight will I cool down?

I had my first baby 8 months ago, and have put weight on that im trying to get rid of, unsure exactly how much but maybe 2 stone? gone from a 12-14 to a 14-16. anyway since I had her I'm always absolutely boiling. like, red faced and sweaty. in winter I was going around with a cardigan on, not very often a winter coat. Ive had night sweats since I had her (iv heard these are common after pregnancy) but I'm still getting them 8 months on. I wake up and my pillow is soaking.

I've just gone back to work and my office has always been warm. but I'm sitting there looking at other people who look just normal but I was actually the colour of a tomato and sweat was dropping down my neck :( it's embarassing; im so fed up with it. I went to the doctor about 5 months ago who sent me for a blood test but the results were normal. she told me to go back even if my results were normal but I havent.

basically although iv always sort of been a warm person I've never been like this and the only other thing I can think of is my weight? will I stop being so hot all the time if i lose the extra? is it even anything to do with it?!

What age are you?
Could it be early menopause?

guiltynetter · 08/04/2015 20:24

I'm 30 so hopefully not. I get regular periods which is one thing the doctor asked me when I went.

No advice just want to say I have always been size 10/12 and am always hot:( so maybe losing weight would help but it's not like you are huge.

Skeppers · 08/04/2015 20:26

I lost 2 stone about 18 months ago for this very reason, that I didn't want to go through another sweaty summer. Didn't make the slightest difference! Think some people just run hot. Sorry!

LapsedTwentysomething · 08/04/2015 20:27

I've gained a lot of weight since having my DCs but it hasn't led to me getting overheated. Everyone is of course different so you might well be right, but I would suggest seeing your GP alongside trying to lose weight.

Mousefinkle · 08/04/2015 20:30

Well you're not huge but losing the excess weight will do you a world of good even if it doesn't fix this problem, which it very well might! Lose the two stone and see what happens.

I know when I was carrying excess weight (though it was five stone more than you are...) I was very much like you. I never needed a winter coat, everyone thought I was crazy and I would pour sweat wherever I went, even just walking for five minutes and I'd be dripping like a tap. I certainly don't have that issue now I'm a healthy weight so it was definitely the weight causing the problems!

Lose the weight and see if it stops, if it doesn't go to the GP and ask for help.

daffsandtulips · 08/04/2015 20:30

Sounds more to do with hormones than weight OP. Whilst blood tests can be normal, giving birth can trigger lots of things. I developed countless allergies after child birth that I never had before and nothing was ever detected by sampling my blood. Im now well through my menopause but had hot flushes a good 10 years before where my bloods were normal.

YesILikeItToo · 08/04/2015 20:31

In our house, the fatter person is certainly always warmer than the thinner person.

guiltynetter · 08/04/2015 20:40

thanks for the views, they're pretty varied!

my uniform at work is a tunic that fastens up with press studs. I have to wear a top underneath it in case one pops open (gets caught on something, or is pulled open) I don't want to be exposing everything! at the moment I wear a cotton tshirt underneath but I'm so so warm. can anybody suggest anything else for underneath it that is really lightweight? sonething that does the opposite of a thermal vest would be great ;)

toffeeboffin · 08/04/2015 20:42

Yup, it will make a difference. I lost three stones and I'm a lot cooler now. Before I always had to have the window open, red face etc.

Musicaltheatremum · 08/04/2015 21:26

Are you breast feeding at all. I was really hot when I breastfed. All that blood supply to the upper part of my body

LotusLight · 08/04/2015 21:41

Can we ask what you weigh?
It probably will settle down but might be best to get down to your more normal weight and also avoid any junk food, sugar, chocolate processed foods etc too.

guiltynetter · 08/04/2015 21:50

I actually have no idea what I weigh! don't own any scales and slightly scared to jump on anybody elses.

no I'm not breastfeeding.

Mintyy · 08/04/2015 21:53

I am pretty fat and always cold. It's not a direct correlation.

shewept · 08/04/2015 21:56

Have you tried rugby skins? Some men wear them at the gym. Its a tight top that (apparently) helps cool the body down by getting rid of heat and sweat. They like them, but that might because they like wearing tops so tight you can see the detail on their nipples Grin

Seriously though they swear by them, the look like a t-shirt.

I actually got warmer when I lost weight. Some people are just warm though. My dd is.

trappedinsuburbia · 08/04/2015 21:59

What about just a thin vest top? Go back to the gp maybe they can suggest something.

WorraLiberty · 08/04/2015 22:00

You don't say how tall you are OP?

Either way, perhaps you should go back to the doctor and see what they think?

trappedinsuburbia · 08/04/2015 22:02

It could still be hormonal as well, mine is nearly 2 and its only in the last few months ive stopped being sweaty and im skinny.

crazykat · 08/04/2015 22:03

Some people just run hot. I get hot very quickly when doing anything physical, I am overweight but losing it slowly and it hasn't made a difference.

My ds is smack in the middle of healthy weight to height ratio and is the same. The minute he starts anything more than a slow walk he's bright red and sweating, even in winter.

Losing excess weight can help with feeling hot but not for everyone unfortunately.

WoodliceCollection · 08/04/2015 22:05

Losing weight might help, but also possibly get your hormone levels (thinking particularly thyroid and parathyroid although that is harder to get depending on GP) checked. Quite a lot of women get post-pregnancy thyroid issues, and this can affect your temperature regulation (one of the most obvious signs in my case was sitting over a radiator, in August, still shivering- hyperthyroid can cause higher body temp, and not everyone gets weight loss, so would be more likely that than hypo which makes you feel colder).

RizzoWasTheBestOne · 08/04/2015 22:14

I've always been a size 10 but after I gave birth I noticed I was hot all the time. Whereas previously I was the sort of person who felt the cold easily.

Friends of mine say they've experienced similar. I'm sure it's some weird post-natal thing that messes with your body's internal thermostat.

DD is nearly 18 months and it seems to be settling down now.

hiccupgirl · 08/04/2015 22:15

I would def suspect it's to do with your hormone levels rather than your weight.

I am still around 3 stone overweight and while I am cooler than when I was another 3 stone heavier, I'm not dripping in sweat in normally heated rooms. I was very hot when I was pregnant but my internal thermostat reset itself lower after my DS was born and I just didn't get as warm anymore. I would def go back to your doctor and see what she suggests.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 08/04/2015 22:17

I'm a size bigger than you but I'm always cold. I thought perhaps my excess fat was squeezing my circulation.

Are you particularly hot in your work tunic? What is it made of? I find anything like polyester or man made in general just doesn't breathe like natural fabric.

Glitoris · 08/04/2015 22:20

Night sweats sound hormonal,I'd go back to the doctor and have hormone levels checked if I were you.

What age are you?

SolitudeSometimesIs · 08/04/2015 22:22

Can you wear a vest top under your tunic?

Have you had your thyroid checked?

Are you taking the pill? I took Celeste after DS1 and I sweated terribly. I don't think it's one of the listed side effects but after I stopped taking it, it stopped being an issue.

Any chance you're pregnant again?

Have you checked that you don't have a temperature and that you're not just hot? Maybe an underlying infection?
