to ask if I lose weight will I cool down?

I had my first baby 8 months ago, and have put weight on that im trying to get rid of, unsure exactly how much but maybe 2 stone? gone from a 12-14 to a 14-16. anyway since I had her I'm always absolutely boiling. like, red faced and sweaty. in winter I was going around with a cardigan on, not very often a winter coat. Ive had night sweats since I had her (iv heard these are common after pregnancy) but I'm still getting them 8 months on. I wake up and my pillow is soaking.

I've just gone back to work and my office has always been warm. but I'm sitting there looking at other people who look just normal but I was actually the colour of a tomato and sweat was dropping down my neck :( it's embarassing; im so fed up with it. I went to the doctor about 5 months ago who sent me for a blood test but the results were normal. she told me to go back even if my results were normal but I havent.

basically although iv always sort of been a warm person I've never been like this and the only other thing I can think of is my weight? will I stop being so hot all the time if i lose the extra? is it even anything to do with it?!

Is the sweating constant or linked to your cycle?

Smokedsalmonbagel · 09/04/2015 00:00

Since I've lost 4 stone I really feel the cold so it may help to lose weight!

MaryWithoutMungoAndMidge · 09/04/2015 00:34

It may be hormone related. I remember feeling as you do until my kids were around 2. I'm 8 stone so don't think weight has anything to do with it. Your baby is only 8 months old and your body will still be getting back to it's pre pregnancy state which takes time. I don't know where you are but the temperature has soared where we are recently and I'm really hot a lot of the time.

Ive lost weight but am still classed as overweight Im size 14 to 16 and im bloody cold all the time. I couldnt wait for winter to end.

HelenaDove · 09/04/2015 00:40

oh and my skin is starting to go a bit yellow on my legs WTF is that about

Ludways · 09/04/2015 00:41

I'm alway hotter when I have more weight on, one of the best things about being slimmer is being cooler!

SmillasSenseOfSnow · 09/04/2015 01:02

Your GP told you to go back and see them even if your results were normal. You didn't. Have you considered that they quite probably have an idea of what they would look at checking/doing next if you actually did what they said and went back?

MrsTedCrilly · 09/04/2015 02:11

I am definitely cooler with less fat on me! When I was at my skinniest I used to shiver in bed in winter.
It's also about the foods I'm eating too.. After I've eaten chocolate or starchy carbs or pastry etc I am hot all the time and can feel myself burning up, whereas when I eat healthily I feel normal.

guiltynetter · 09/04/2015 06:58

thank you for the suggestions. I did have my thyroid/hormone levels checked and it all came back ok. guess I need to lose the weight and see what happens. easier said than done! I didn't go back to the GP as she had checked for loads of things, I felt like she said come back only to be nice, feel a bit as if I'm wasting her time.

Losing weight made a huge difference to me. Except now I feel too cold!

EmmaLL25 · 09/04/2015 09:13

Wearing natural fabrics might help a little, cotton or linen. Synthetic fabrics make it harder for your skin to breath.

Definitely get back to GP, maybe something like contraceptive pill might help (or a change of pill).

I remember having bed-soaking sweats post-birth but they calmed down.

You're not wasting your GPs time, it could be just one of those weird things that happens after pregnancy but it could be your body telling you something.

TRexingInAsda · 09/04/2015 09:17

I was always warm when I was big, and when pregnant. Now I'm slim I'm always cold!

MaidOfStars · 09/04/2015 09:49

I second a proper sports vest/T-shirt for under your uniform. Counterintuitive that a tight item will keep you cool but they really work.

hauntedhenry · 09/04/2015 10:06

Lose some weight, it definitely contributes. And go back to the gp, it's horrible for you to be so hot that you're dripping with sweat, you're not wasting her time.
