Over your lifetime?

A couple of times though sheer stupidity. I'm quite dark skinned and have coloured a bit from yesterday and today but the only times I've properly burned are when I've been abroad.. I've never blistered though.

Apatite1 · 07/04/2015 18:01

Lots as a kid. Now I stick on spf 50. My parents were not great at sun protection, my father had small skin cancers removed, thankfully not melanoma.

notsmartenough · 07/04/2015 19:01

A few times, but not badly. I'm not keen on the sun and if i go out even for a few minutes have to keep buttoned up to the neck or I get a horrible heat rash. I keep pale and very uninteresting. I'm the only one in my family who can't go brown (just red/blotchy).

I was envious of friends who would tan effortlessly at the first hint of sunshine and nobody batted an eyelid in the 70s at people basting themselves in olive oil.

I tried to get a tan (not with olive oil!) but without success so gave up trying about 40 years ago. We didn't know about the cancer risks then (at least I don't recall any warnings?) and even the thought of premature wrinkles didn't put some people off.

Redness the following day? - about once a year :( I do a lot of outdoor mountain sports and even though I try to wear sunscreen on exposed areas I get caught in early spring or late autumn at least once when the weather changes over the day and I have to remove a layer.

Actual blisters - only 3-4times in my life - once really painfully :(

Skiptonlass · 07/04/2015 19:10

Three times - all accidents really. Very very pale skinned so I don't mess around. I don't use much sun cream unless I'm somewhere tropical/ bathed in uv. I tend to cover up and seek shade.

Having said that....since moving to a country where it is dark 22 hours a day in winter, I enjoy going out in the sun more now! I'm careful not to overdo it though.

SakuraSakura · 07/04/2015 19:25

Only once thank goodness. But nothing bad enough to peel or anything, my legs were just red & felt very, very hot!

My skin is quite sallow, for that am grateful. I know some people burn really easily and they have to be careful not to get caught out accidentally. I am so careful with dd as she is quite pale, factor 50 all the way at the slightest hint of rays.

SASASI · 07/04/2015 19:29

Maybe 10/15 times. Avid subbed user late teens & early 20's.

I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma when I was 29. No family history etc & doc 99% certain it's because of my tanning when younger.

RipMacWinkle · 07/04/2015 19:31

More than I can count. I have typical Celtic skin and can burn on a dull day.

NittyDora · 07/04/2015 20:35

3 times, once as a kid swimming in the river - was with my friends Spanish parents who just didn't think about poor wee peely wallies, once in when we were lost while hillwalking and once in Australia. I'm too pale to mess about.

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 07/04/2015 20:50

I can only remember being really sun burnt & peeling sheets of skin off in '76/'77. Since then I've always tried to stay out direct sunlight all year round.

daffsandtulips · 07/04/2015 20:55

Many a time when younger, sun stroke a couple of times. Apparently, Im allergic to it and had many an injection in my backside when on holiday. As for "peeling", well I'm sure I did that more than 50 snakes! I stay out of it now though Grin

EauPea · 07/04/2015 21:03

Sunburn way too many times to count, even using factor 30 - 50. I'm currently sporting bright red legs down the back, Daz bluey white on the front. My face is standing in for Trevose lighthouse Blush

miaowmix · 07/04/2015 21:11

Once, my eyelids went pink on a cloudy day in the Canaries when I feel asleep on the beach without any sun cream on. But I am olive skin toned and tan really easily.
We were Bergasol factor 2 children in the 70s and always sported deep tans, even in the English summer. Not everyone burns!

frumpet · 07/04/2015 21:27

About 4 times in 43 years , very pale skinned so have a natural aversion to the sun , much happier in the shade in the 'mad dogs and Englishmen ' times of the day Smile

frumpet · 07/04/2015 21:28

By which I mean between 9 and 9 in the summer Grin

hauntedhenry · 09/04/2015 10:14

2-3 times? Never had blisters, but it was very painful. I'm very careful now.

Grantaire · 09/04/2015 10:19

Never. And I have skin which is very sensitive to the sun. If I'm out in any kind of sun, I need factor 30 at the very least.

I don't wear sun screen much though. I wear loose, cotton clothing and a big straw hat. I stay out of the sun in the middle of the day. I have worked hard to find the balance between being outside for my health, good levels of vitamin d for example and avoiding sun damage.

I work on the principle that any change of colour is sun damage. My Mum's had skin cancer twice now and is monitored every few months.

I do the same with my dc. Loose, long sleeves and a big hat, sun cream where absolutely necessary and a healthy, mindful attitude to the sun.

angelos02 · 09/04/2015 10:23

A tan is skin damage y'know? going slightly off topic

Never tanned/burned as an adult.

fulltothebrim · 09/04/2015 10:24

100 times perhaps. I grew up before we knew of the dangers of skin cancer, and was badly burned every summer as a child. My back would peel in great layers of skin.

Sorry - cross posted.
