I'm currently 11 stone and 5'4.

OP posts:
Sallystyle · 05/04/2015 20:45

She said how tall she is in her OP.

JimmyCorkhill · 05/04/2015 20:51

She's 5'4 Kate.

Have you considered doing the 5:2 diet? I have lost over a stone in 3 months. My DH has lost double that in the same time frame. I am a similarish size to you and once weighed 12 stone (after DD2 was born). I currently weigh 8st 3lbs. On previous diets (mainly Slimming World) I have got to the weight I'm at now but it was HARD work and I always looked a bit strained, as if one bite of rogue food would and did send my weight up again. This time I look fine. I have enjoyed dieting as it doesn't feel restrictive at all (indeed I have eaten both my Easter chunky kit kats today!) I can easily see myself losing more.

When you are short any weight gain looks pretty bad as there's nowhere to hide it.

Look at the 5:2 threads on here. It really has worked for lots of people.

Mintyy · 05/04/2015 20:54

In what way do you think you might be being unreasonable op? Presumably you can see there is a possibility you might be, hence your question.

I think the word you might be searching for is unrealistic.

YANBU I'm 5'3 and am aiming for 8 stone.

KateReddy · 05/04/2015 21:06

That would be a normal BMI so I'm not sure why that WBU.

TenerifeSea · 05/04/2015 21:07

KittyandTeal "Depends on your frame I guess but I'm 5'3" and when I was just over 8st that was considered low enough to be classed as anorexic."

That gives you a BMI of 19.8! Confused Not that weight is a key indicator of an eating disorder, although technically, you'd not be diagnosed with AN with a BMI over 17.5

MrsBigginsPieShop · 05/04/2015 21:07

I'm 5'5 and at 9st4 I was about right, if on the slim side. 8st at your height would certainly be slim, but may be hard to maintain? Aim for 10, then 9 and then 8. You may find you are happy with a higher number than you think.

PuppyMummy · 05/04/2015 21:07

yanbu

I am same height and pre pregnancy was 8st 10. I was a size 8-10 and toned but was running 3-4 times a week, 10k a time. it would have taken masses of effort and little food to get to 8st.

I put on 4 stone whilst pregnant (terrible, I was so hungry!!)

im now 9st 10 and too big and wobbly.

im aiming to get back to 9st but struggling now as its hard to find time to run with a baby.

TenerifeSea · 05/04/2015 21:09

We (as society) have really skewed views of weight and what is healthy. You can be perfectly healthy weighing 8 stone at 5ft 4. It's the lower end of healthy but some people are quite small framed.

DramaAlpaca · 05/04/2015 21:12

It depends entirely on your build. My mother is a petite 5'3" and has weighed 8 stone throughout her adult life. She is very slightly built, has always eaten healthily and has never looked underweight. It impresses me no end that in her 70s she's the same weight as she was in her 20s.

I didn't inherit her genes Sad

I do think that it's unrealistic to aim to lose three stone by September.

tametempo · 05/04/2015 21:25

By September would be extremely difficult to do in a healthy way. The last few pounds are notoriously slow on most people regardless.

Mintyy · 05/04/2015 21:39

I had very disordered eating and was ill. I couldn't eat and hardly ate, I fainted on the tube and had to have time off work. I went off all food, would try things and eat a bite and couldn't carry on. I didn't have anorexia but I lost a lot of weight and my flatmates were worried about me. I smoked 30 or 40 cigarettes a day. I am 5'2" and my lowest weight at my lowest ebb was about a pound under 8 stone.

I think 8 stone will be hard to achieve and maintain at 5'4" if you not a natural endomorph. This is why I say you may be being unrealistic, if not exactly unreasonable Smile.

Mintyy · 05/04/2015 21:46

Obvs I mean ectomorph. Sorry.

Crossfitmyarse · 05/04/2015 21:49

I don't think 8 stone would be underweight for 5' 4'' but I do think that it's pretty unsustainable if you lean naturally towards being heavier. I'd say at 9 stone you'd look pretty perfect. People who are 8 stone at that height are probably the type of people who don't have to work at weight loss at all and are just naturally very, very slim.

Mintyy · 05/04/2015 21:53

Yes, that, what crossfit said.

Of course there are millions of people who are 5'4" and taller who weigh 8 stone or less who are perfectly healthy. But its quite an effort to weigh so little for the average 5'4" woman, especially post-30.

fatlazymummy · 05/04/2015 21:54

OP, why have you decided on 8 stone as your target weight? Have you been that weight in the past ,and looked and felt great? Or is it just a nice round number? Or any other reason?
It just sounds a bit arbitary to me. Personally I think it's best to set smaller goals, focus on your health and fitness, and reevaluate as you go along. You don't really know how you are going to feel and look until you get there.

Cliffdiver · 05/04/2015 22:02

op I am also 5'4" and I weigh 8 stone, for me it's a great weight. Before I had children I was naturally 7 stone and way too skinny. Being 8 stone I am a healthy looking size 6-8, have a very slim waist, a curvy bum and decent size boobs but only because I'm breastfeeding. Good luck with your weight loss.

spudholes · 05/04/2015 22:07

This is a photo of me when I weighed 8st at 5'2. I lived off 500 calories a day for months and was starving.

To have a goal weight of 8 stone
fatlazymummy · 05/04/2015 22:08

Should also add, I'm also 5'4'', 30 years ago I weighed 71/2 stones. I don't really know how, because I have a broad frame, big (mansized) hands and feet) and big boobs, and I can't really understand where so much of my body disappeared to. I honestly think it would impossible for me to be that small nowadays, barring illness of course. I'm aiming for around 10 stones, because I look fit healthy and strong at that weight and can still buy nice clothes and look good in them, although on a larger scale than would suit many people.
Just pointing out that your weight doesn't say everything about your body.

MarwoodsMate · 05/04/2015 22:18

^^ this. I'm sure it's very possible to lose the weight in the time you want to, I just don't get why you have picked your ideal weight in advance tbh. 8 stone for one person might not be right for another. I'm sure it's achievable though if that's what you're asking.

StellaAlpina · 05/04/2015 22:22

And also your periods don't stop if your BMI goes below 20. I'm not Asian, my BMI is 19.2 and my periods are perfectly regular.

Naty1 · 05/04/2015 22:24

Im 5'4 and have weighed 8st7 to 9st 7. At lowest 7st7 after GF.
I think my build must be big though as others on her have been a size6 at 7st7 but i was say an 8.
At 8st9 i was a 10 more. I wonder if the pcos makes my belly fatter. As i wouldnt call that thin for me.
Though to be fair my top half hasnt gone under a size 12 since a teenager.
2 weeks after dc1 i was back down to 8st9. And my bmi was only just into overweight at end of pg, so the bands are quite generous.
Too lose that much weight you will need to drastically cut the calories consumed. I would guess maybe 1000 per day

Tunna · 05/04/2015 22:32

It does entirely depend on your build, and is unrealistic to compare one body to the next as so many factors come into play.

fWIw I was 5.0' weighed just under 7st and still had 32e boobs with a booty to match. On paper I was was desperately underweight, but my doctor told me that BMI is not accurate when people, especially women, and those of small height.

He measured other things like my hips, whether ribs were showing ( they weren't) my bust size, and my calorific intake as well as taking blood count. All were healthy.

I suppose my argument is that you can't compare one size to another.

Mintyy · 05/04/2015 22:36

I imagine, if you are trying to lose weight, that it is healthier to aim for a clothing size rather than a weight. And that its probably unrealistic and unhealthy to aim to be less than an 8/10 at 5'4". And a 10/12 would probably be fine and within a healthy bmi too.
