YANBU. I am 5 foot 2 and overwight at 8'10. I was underweight at 7 stone but just right at 8

No you were not overweight Hmm

Pantone363 · 05/04/2015 17:57

I'm 5ft 6 and naturally 8st.

I've never stopped menstrating, in fact I'm 37 wks pregnant with number 4 right now.

What is your natural build like?

Octopus37 · 05/04/2015 18:00

YANBU. I am 5ft5 and currently 8st13/9st, heaviest I have been for a long time. This time last year (although due to grief, was 8st), normal weight between 8st and 8st7. I am aiming for 8st7, but would be elated if I gotdown to 8st, but I am a small build. At the moment, have a muffin top, big bum and bigger thighs, although fine by BMI. Think we are all different in terms of what weight feels right. Good luck.

Sounds acceptable. I'm 5 6 and 9 st. Not remotely skinny - size ten and very, very toned, strong and fit.

Mistigri · 05/04/2015 18:12

It depends on your build and whether you've ever consistently weighed 8st in your life. Most people have a weight below which they cannot easily go - I've weighed 53-54kg (8 1/2 stone ish) pretty much all my life and I look unwell below 52kg and feel a bit flabby above 55 kg.

Build really does make a huge difference. My daughter and I are both 5'3" and we both wear a size 6-8. I'm bigger across the shoulders and a more athletic shape, she has a petite top and slightly broader hips and thighs, but the differences are really quite small. We are both slim but healthy. Yet she weighs a stone less than me!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 05/04/2015 18:14

Your body your choice what siZe you want to be.
But there is more to life than being 8 stones

bonniebear · 05/04/2015 18:14

I look best at 8 stone. I am 8 stone 6 right now and look chubby. I am on same goal as you

liveloveluggage · 05/04/2015 18:20

I think make it your goal to be at the highest healthy weight for your height and build and when you get to that weight see if you are happy or might like to lose a little more to fit comfortably into the next size down of clothes or whatever.

bonniebear · 05/04/2015 18:22

I was bmi 16.2 and conceived our first, but I was young and just slim. I was 6 stone 12 at 5 foot 3. Always had periods, and got pregnant in first month.

I go between 7 stone 8 and 8 stone depending on when in the week/month it is and I'm 5ft 3. I wear size 6-8 usually and eat whatever I want, I don't diet, also never stopped menstruating.

ahbollocks · 05/04/2015 18:28

Im 8.3 and 5ft which is the teeniest bit chubby for me. Yanbu but it is alot to lose

Faez · 05/04/2015 18:28

What are people swearing at!

Alisvolatpropiis · 05/04/2015 18:29

Why are some posters being so aggressive Confused

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 05/04/2015 18:30

Depends on your age and your build. The ideal BMI to minimise your mortality risk appears to curve upwards as women get older, so a fifty-something woman is perhaps better off at BMI 26 than 20, whilst a teenager might be better off at a BMI of 19.

(However that's not definitive because the confounding factors are huge).

Whatever, it will be a hugely ambitious target if you're getting on a bit. I used to be perfectly healthy at that height and weight when I was in my teens, but my natural weight drifted up over the years and I would now struggle hugely to maintain a weight much below 9 stone.

If I were you I'd aim for an achievable 9 stone (which will look great as long as it's muscle rather than flab) and reassess when you've got there. Unless you want to take up underwear modelling I don't see the pressing reason to go down to 8 stone.

Faez · 05/04/2015 18:30

weird...

padkin · 05/04/2015 18:32

I'm 5 3" and I was only 8 stone at my very skinniest, late teens, and it was not a healthy weight.

I'm in my 40s. 11 stone - overweight, 10 stone - just about right, size 12, healthy bmi, 9.5 stone - bloody brilliant, feel slim, size 10.

Do you mean 8 stone dead, or 8 stone something (just dropping below 9?)

Casuallyvacant · 05/04/2015 18:33

I'm almost fifty ...got a six pack too. Nothing to do with age. And Ive had five kids.

You can get the body and fitness you want if you work at it.

bonniebear · 05/04/2015 18:35

It is no good asking what anyway else is. The highest I have been is 10 stone , this last pregnancy and I was so fat people made up nicknames like egg on legs cause I could barely walk. There is no way I could be 10 stone normally, but I am white, but like an Asian build.

specialsubject · 05/04/2015 18:38

unhealthy rate of weight loss planned, that's a kick in the teeth to a functioning body. no idea if the target is sensible, but you should take double the time over it.

crash dieters end up fatter.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 05/04/2015 18:52

My dietitian told me that anything under 20 is considered underweight for anyone other than people from Asian populations

18.5 to 24.9 is the healthy range. You're not considered to be underweight unless your BMI is below 18.5.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 05/04/2015 18:56

I should add that I've seen several HCP's over the last couple of months because of weight issues and I was originally confused about the 20 and 18.5 cut off thing. They have all assured me that anything between 18.5 to 20 is still within the healthy range and not underweight.

CalleighDoodle · 05/04/2015 18:58

You need to
Change your eating habits rather than crash diet. Crash dieting only works so long. My sister crash diets to a
Size 8 every so often. But she is lazy and doesnt do a scrap of exercise and goes back to eating cheap crap food so it slowly goes back on. My weight is usually 8 stone 3 and a size 8. Im 8 stone 13 atm (overeating and lack of exercise) and can see the flab in places, my legs are bigger sob and a size 10. At 9stone4ish im a size 12. Weight looks and is different on different people, even with the same height. In both my pregnancies i was sent to a dietitian for low bmi and she said i was clearly not underweight to look at and weight in such a small part of it. She had no issues with my diet at all.

Set achievable goals and remember the target is health. Effective exercise is key too for health. Theres loads if weight loss groups on Instagram (look at some of the cambridge weightplan ones as they have a strong focus on maintaining through
Healthy eating exercise and commitment).

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 05/04/2015 18:59

According to the NHS BMI calculator, the healthy weight range of someone who is 5'4 is anything from 7st 10lb to 10st 6lb.
