OH and I disagree. He thinks eating a packet of crisps then handing the empty packet over at checkout to scan is perfectly acceptable but I think this is a no-no.

Where do you guys sit on this matter?

Its kind of greedy to not be able to wait to get to the till to pay

Some of the threads on this website are important as they offer support, advice or even just a chat to people who might not otherwise have it in real life but this is a week of arguing, swearing, time wasting futile dross that I'm ashamed to have even been a part of, it's pathetic and I feel pathetic for ever getting sucked back in. It's the holidays it's really sunny let's those of us who can go out and get a life

However, everyone seems to be studiously ignoring the question of how you pay for goods you have eaten when they are goods sold by weight, such as loose nuts and fruit.

Ici, a few posts down I have repeatedly pointed out that there are self-weighing posts for all loose produce in at least 1 supermarket chain - the one I use - and that it would be polite for people to speed up the queues and help out checkout staff by using them, irrespective of views on eating prior to payment.

I just think using the self service weighing stations is a kind and courteous thing to do. And it saddens me that so many people, you included, don't even seem to know they exist. If manners are so important, shouldn't this be an issue, too?

I don't think I've ever seen grapes for sale that weren't pre-packaged, pre-weighed and pre-priced with a barcode label already on the punnet or bag (not outside a traditional green grocers anyway). So it makes no difference to the price that comes up when the barcode is scanned, whether you've been virtuous and couth (is that a word? It must be if you can be uncouth) or scoffed the whole lots in the aisles.

My supermarket do have unweighed, unpriced grapes. But they also have scales where you select the unweighed items from a touchscreen, get them weighed, and it spits out a priced barcode label to stick on the bag. Same with baked items. And yet loads of people don't bother to use them, expecting busy staff to hold up queues of people instead.

I suppose we all have our pet peeves and views on what constitutes selfish entitlement in the behaviour of others.
