OH and I disagree. He thinks eating a packet of crisps then handing the empty packet over at checkout to scan is perfectly acceptable but I think this is a no-no.

Where do you guys sit on this matter?

Yeah man shove food into the mouths of your sprogs when you can't be arsed to parent. Better than a dummy right? Wink

There is NO excuse for allowing your kids to eat round a supermarket and eating your fill, as you go round doesn't conjure a pretty picture tbh.

Set mealtimes can do wonders for snacking.

Ds (works on checkouts) tells me he regularly gets handed
drool/snot covered packaging to scan. He than has to hold the queue up while he wipes the surface down so the next customer's fresh produce isn't smeared with various bodily fluids Grin

MummySparkle · 05/04/2015 19:49

I hate it. My DH does it sometimes and I find it hugely embarrassing. I have fed my DS the odd thing before paying, but on very rare occasions. I usually have some sort of snack for them in my bag anyway that I've already purchased and prepared at home. DS is old enough to understand "when we get to the car, then we can have food" so if we're in the shop he just has to wait

MrsKoala · 05/04/2015 20:26

Right wtf is wrong with dummies? Gamer, OUTSIDE!

gamerchick · 05/04/2015 20:36

I'm there man everybody knows the boob is the answer to all woes.

OwlinaTree · 05/04/2015 20:47

Hummm, I guess a breastfeed is OK because you brought that with you from home under these mumsnet guidelines.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2015 20:54

You can always scan your boobs at the checkout just to be sure. Grin

I would rather see a breadstick in a baby's mouth than a dummy mind.

westcountrywoman · 05/04/2015 20:57

Very uncouth. I've never done it with the kids when they were tiny either. I don't get the need to be constantly grazing. I rarely see a toddler in a pushchair / trolley these days without them all munching away on something.

Boobs dont have a bar code. You'd have to look them up on the popular items list.

Sparklingbrook · 05/04/2015 21:08

YY Owl boobs are probably in the back of the laminated price folder thingamy with the odd looking bread rolls. Grin

tametempo · 05/04/2015 21:29

You could probably earn Boots advantage card points on boob milk instead of formula too! Grin

What! You breastfeed? Now that really is discusting...

seriously don't diss the dummies tho. We have spent 6 months desperately trying to get ds2 onto one so i can have longer than an hour sleep. He is now sleeping for 3 hrs at a time. Thanks to the dummy. I wont have a word said against them

back to slagging off people who eat a bit of bread in a shop...

goldopals · 05/04/2015 22:13

I very much disagree with eating as you go in supermarkets. Read the thread in classics to see how passionate posters can get about this subject.

My (very posh and very well off ) auntie was stupid enough to eat some of her grapes before getting to the checkout, therefore they weighed less.
She was frogmarched through the supermarket, they rang the police, fined her and banned her from every asda in the country.

tobysmum77 · 05/04/2015 22:18

goldo it doesn't make your point valid just because you say it 3 times.

FilbertSnood · 05/04/2015 22:22

I always said I wouldn't be one of those people who let their child open food before paying..... It makes me feel itchy.

Then I had children. And even though I try to encourage a snack before a shop or take things on with me... The meltdown by a two year old about "I just want one of those" (babybel) with a newborn strapped to me and having had no sleep was enough to break the self imposed ban... I make them both wait now tho (4yrs 9 months and 2.5yrs) and they are fine with that.

I always fret that the card could be declined or somesuch.. So I check I have the cash for the item before caving!

Adults should wait... Medical
Conditions aside...

Metalguru · 05/04/2015 22:28

Slightly off track, but I once bumped into a colleague in sainsburys and he mentioned he was off to visit another colleague who was in hospital, I insisted that he take the big bunch or red grapes that were in my trolley and give them to her, then said goodbye and "please give her my best" I kind of saw him staring after me out of the corner of my eye but it was only after I had left the supermarket that it actually clicked that I had forced him to pay for a gift from me, it just hadn't occurred to me! I was mortified!

travertine · 05/04/2015 22:30

If you see someone slurping lucozade half way through sainsbury then that's me with a massive hangover.

Cooroo · 05/04/2015 22:42

I think of myself as pretty couth. But when DD was 2 or so (so long ago I forget exactly) she would often sit in the trolley with a punnet or raspberries or a piece of baguette. I presented the bar code on the way out. No one ever seemed to think this was terribly wrong - better than a grizzling child. She's now 18 and is a reasonably sensible young woman who doesn't eat in supermarkets.

EastMidsMummy · 05/04/2015 23:28

There are teachers for this stuff? Well that explains it then. We must bow down to the superior knowledge of those who are educated in these matters. Also, perhaps you should consider this as a profession. You're so passionate about it
