Hello all.

I'm currently suffering from pericoronitis (a painful swelling and infection around the wisdom tooth.)

I had it twice while I was pregnant and the dentist said it needs to be out. So I promised I would come and have it out after the birth in Jan. Anyway I'm a lying wimp and never did so now its kicked in again on the Easter weekend. That's karma for ya.

I've been washing with salt water and taking ibuprofen b it still feel like I've taken a good punching in the jaw. (And I have yo chew on Mil's char grilled roast beef tomorrow! Lol)

I am private with my dental care and can have a free emergency call out but I know I need an x ray and then wisdom tooth removal and anti biotics with no chemists open. So its not really feasably work until I can ring my regular dentist on Tuesday.

Go get it sorted. There's always a chemist open on a rota.

Have you checked to see which pharmacies are providing emergency cover in your area? There is usually an out of hours chemist available somewhere for situations like this, and most pharmacies will be open as usual tomorrow.

Silvercatowner · 03/04/2015 17:54

Tomorrow isn't a bank holiday - go get antibiotics.

monkeysox · 03/04/2015 17:55

Oil of cloves is fab

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 03/04/2015 18:01

I understand tomorrow isn't a bank holiday bit I'm almost positive that when I explain to the dentist what it is. And that I'm not dying in agony. I'm unlikely to be top of his list. Dentist pretty much refused me any antibiotics until I cried last time (I out him off taking it out as I was weeks away from mat leave and already suffering in the pregnancy)

So I was looking for suggestions to ease the pain at home. Will be seeing my dentist on Tues.

My wisdom tooth fell out three weeks after the dentist told me he wouldnt remove it because it was cosmetic i went back it was half hanging out Shock

Oil of cloves codiene if you can get it and there is always a chemist open somewhere Flowers

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 03/04/2015 18:03

Stop suggesting clove oil. I'd rather the pain than that shit touch my tongue! Haha. Plus you're not really supposes to put that stuff on your gums

wowfudge · 03/04/2015 18:03

There will be somewhere you can get a prescription dispensed - I think I've actually had antibiotics dispensed by my dentist in the past. I've been in your situation and the pain was horrific; I'd seek emergency treatment. Clove oil helps but isn't pleasant.

chickenfuckingpox · 03/04/2015 18:06

Go to the emergency dentist they should give you antibiotics if the infection is around the tooth peroxil mouth wash is good (mouthwash with hydrogen peroxide in it) and a good flossing helps

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 03/04/2015 18:10

Oh no chicken!

Well my case is the opposite. He's been pestering me to have it out and I've been saying no up the point of arguing with him. He'll kick my are when I go in whinging again. Its all sideways and impacted so the side of the tooth is poking through the gum. Niiicceee

Easter Shock im due for two fillings i might have the doctor drug me this time i just cant face it SINCE DECEMBER POSSIBLY BEFORE

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 03/04/2015 18:23

Chicken I know how u feel. I put off having a molar out for 2 years. Got booked In with hospital to have it out but they took too long.ended up seeing my dentist as an emergency. He had an extra lady in just to hold my hand a d put my favprite music on lol. Turned out NHS had done 8 shoddy fillings on me that were all nackered. Ended up sticking with him and getting everything fixed and a root canal. They endes up writing aboute in their blog about dental fear.

But this wisdom tooth is a different animal. Its a minster. You think after child birth a few months ago I'd be up for anything haha

I take it that it's impacted, op?

If it is, with that little flap of skin causing the trouble, mix up salty water as hot as you can bear. Take a sip and hold it over your gum/tooth for as long as you can. Sip, hold, spit, and repeat...
Also, hot water bottle, as hot as you can bear, held against cheek.
Get the beggar out ASAP.

TiggieBoo · 03/04/2015 20:13

Have you tried Corsodyl (it's a pretty obvious suggestion so you've probably been there already)?

get antibiotics. Infections around the teeth can be dangerous. Then you will just need to be brave and have it taken out.

misskatamari · 03/04/2015 21:00

When I had an infected tooth a few years back the only thing that killed the pain was rubbing salt into the gum. Tasted horrible but it really helped. I'd definitely try and get some antibiotics tomorrow as wel

OttiliaVonBCup · 03/04/2015 21:02

Cloves.

Chew on one or two and it will make it better.

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 03/04/2015 21:41

Everyone suggesting anti biotics and dentists. Yes I know.I'm not asking for home remedies SD avoidance , just to get me through the weekend x

OP posts:
chickenfuckingpox · 03/04/2015 21:44

as i said the best one is the mouthwash with hydrogen peroxide in it as it fizzes around the infection and bizarrely soothes it no idea why but i always have a bottle in its not cheap but everywhere sells it

other thing is seriously strong alcohol dont drink it if you have taken painkillers rinse your mouth with it

CoffeeAndBiscuitsPlease · 03/04/2015 21:47

Thanks everyone else
Already doing the salt water and taking ibuprofen

Hold a capful of whiskey in your mouth, tilted in the right direction so it is covering the problem area of tooth/gum.

Spit it out after 10 seconds or so. I was going to suggest clove oil, but saw you don't want to use it. Personally, I swear by the stuff

Anyway, my sil always recommends whiskey, albeit more expensive.

chickenfuckingpox · 03/04/2015 21:48

just googled and apparently raw garlic is soothing do you have some? your supposed to crush it and get the juice out and put it on the area
