Hello all.

I'm currently suffering from pericoronitis (a painful swelling and infection around the wisdom tooth.)

I had it twice while I was pregnant and the dentist said it needs to be out. So I promised I would come and have it out after the birth in Jan. Anyway I'm a lying wimp and never did so now its kicked in again on the Easter weekend. That's karma for ya.

I've been washing with salt water and taking ibuprofen b it still feel like I've taken a good punching in the jaw. (And I have yo chew on Mil's char grilled roast beef tomorrow! Lol)

I am private with my dental care and can have a free emergency call out but I know I need an x ray and then wisdom tooth removal and anti biotics with no chemists open. So its not really feasably work until I can ring my regular dentist on Tuesday.

I've had a series of these recently.

Salt wash.
Peroxide wash (I made my own, but you should really buy a professional one.)
Soluble aspirin against the painful area.
Whisky/vodka/whatever against the painful area.
Anaesthetic spray & lozenges.
Co-codamol.

Overdose on all the above, alternating as needed.

Also, and this is counter-intuitive, try not to 'fight the pain'. You end up tensing the muscles around your jaw and this causes additional pain, as well as weirdly referred pain. It's actually better to 'sink into it', telling yourself you know the cause so the pain warning isn't really needed. I find this helps when trying to get to sleep.

A GP can prescribe metronidazole, if you have access to a walk-in centre. It works, but you can't drink with it.

Re MIL's challenging beef: You might have to get as out of it as possible on alcohol & painkillers, then chew on the other side. Or beg for sympathy and soft food!

Good luck :)

Clove oil just burns and does nothing for me. :( I always though whiskey would cause more problems for the temporary pain relief. All I have is red wine haha

I've left a voicemail for the emergency dentist so we will see how important I am tomorrow.

My ear hurts when I swallow :(
