Just noticed that the label on my packet of dried mixed fruit says "add a juicy sweetness to fruit cakes and puddings".

Do they think people buy them and don't know what to do with them? Or make fruit cakes and puddings without fruit and wonder what went wrong - "where's the juicy sweetness I wanted?"

When will this trend for bloody patronising stupid over-familiar labels end?

I'm not BU, am I?!

Yabu because some people are just that stupid. Those instructions probably came about because someone at some point did it wrong. There was once a thread on here where the ops adult dd didn't know how to use a mop!

Thisishowyoudisappear · 03/04/2015 15:03

slightlyeggstained Soap & Glory? I'll try your approach to thinking about it though.

Or do I not want to know Grin

Vegemite used to have some cracking ones...
Delicious with warm milk.
Use as a dip for celery for a healthy snack
Spread on toast with peanut butter and jam

NobodyLivesHere · 03/04/2015 15:15

My sleeping medication comes with warning not to drive if it makes me sleepy. Really? Cos I was thinking of taking SLEEPING PILLS then going for a drive, just for the fuck of it. Hmm

Unescorted · 03/04/2015 15:16

The one that gives me the rage - on cups of coffee
Caution may contain hot liquid

On a bunch of daffodils - "do not eat" - like the previous posters fireworks, I was disappointed as I planned toasting - lightly - some brioche, and serving delicately sauteed daffodils as a rather daring starter

Andrewofgg · 03/04/2015 15:40

My own favourite is the instructions in a package of medication for sick cats which said DO NOT DRIVE OR OPERATE HEAVY MACHINERY WHILE TAKING THESE TABLETS.

Andrewofgg · 03/04/2015 15:42

Footle I saw that and liked it. Big corporation with a sense of humour. It was read out loud by a female voice with a matter-of-fact intonation and a upper-middle-class accent. A masterpiece.

WorraLiberty · 03/04/2015 15:43

How can 'dried' fruit add 'juicy' sweetness? Confused

42andGaffaTape · 03/04/2015 15:47

pipbin I believe in a town in Wiltshire there was a man who bought a few disposable bbq's and stored them in the freezer. He made (local) news when he complained to Tesco about being upset when he retrieved the bbq's from the freezer and tried to set them up. He was most put out that they didn't come with the burgers and sausages 'like the picture on the box' Grin wazzok!

ifgrandmahadawilly · 03/04/2015 15:56

The daffodil warning really is necessary, greydog. People have actually died from mistaking daffodil bulbs for onions. In some supermarkets they keep them near the fruit / veg too.

Unless you are talking about the actual flowers, not the bulbs. Then it's just unnecessary.

Except there were people who died recently from eating the unopened flowers you can buy. They look very like Chinese spring onions.

JigsawsAreAllLittlePieces · 03/04/2015 16:11

Tell that to my daffodil munching cat. She thinks its a new snacking zone.
Daffodil stalks in a vase just don't look the same. :(

Perhaps you should NC to WaldoTheSane, OP.

(the one in So Long and Thanks for All the Fish, who realised how mad the world was after reading the instructions on a pacl of toothpicks).

ZebraLovesKnitting · 03/04/2015 16:28

What Worra said - if it's "dried", then surely that means the water has been taken out, so how can it be juicy?

Do they mean partially rehydrated?

Thisishowyoudisappear · 03/04/2015 16:34

I suppose it adds more 'juice' than not adding any fruit. Oh I don't know.

Waldo

Dried fruit is quite juicy by the time it's been cooked in a cake or pudding, because it absorbs water from the mix. Whereas in a biscuit they are chewy (or burnt).

PurpleSwift · 03/04/2015 17:19

It depends. Your example is a pretty obvious one but in general I like serving suggestions on packaging, it might inspire me to try something new.

Redglitter · 03/04/2015 17:26

I've got a mini portable fridge (holds 2 bottles of wine) it's electric so has to be plugged into the mains.

It has a sticker on it saying 'Do not use underwater ' Hmm

chickenfuckingpox · 03/04/2015 17:34

Open eat enjoy! said my crisps under serving suggestions Easter Confused

chickenfuckingpox · 03/04/2015 17:37

Lush always add do not consume on there packaging

In one shop it was, Smells great not for a plate!

TheCrowFromBelow · 03/04/2015 17:40

My crisps have a "sharing suggestion" of "enjoy with cool glass of Sauvignon Blanc and you favourite people"

I'll ignore the sharing bit but will follow the vino advice.

Thanks for this thread OP if I hadn't checked i'd still be sipping a cup of tea

It's a bit like the advert in a local paper offering a dog:
