How do you think they are going to 'end austerity'? How will this be financed? You can't just suddenly invest more in infrastructure etc to create more jobs if there is no.money.

If it is going to be financed by stopping trident, then we will lose US support - not really a good idea....

Labour are going to increase tax for higher payers, mansion tax etc in order to fund their investments.

I live in Yorkshire and we really don't get the support for SNP. They don't make sense to me, but as they seem to be so popular, please can someone actually why?

I don't think the French want to appear unprofessional / incompetent etc

Christinayangstwistedsister · 04/04/2015 20:11

It's a shame that it has gone way over your head....must be the accent

starwarslegoboy · 04/04/2015 20:17

#frenchgate will catch you up

There is little debate about this, but the 'believers' will always think otherwise

StillLostAtTheStation · 04/04/2015 20:17

Well do enlighten me because it made as much sense as follow up comment below from you.

The English did attack Scotland and the British army does in life scots.

In what way is a comment about the English attacking the Scots in any way relevant ? Is this supposed to refer to the terrible way Westminster oppresses Scotland ?

Christinayangstwistedsister · 04/04/2015 20:19

Note to self... Must not engage with thread goady...

ASAS · 04/04/2015 20:21

Although not an SNP voter, I'm afraid I must say Nicola Sturgeon has always stayed very close to 'real life'. She's been in advocacy her whole life, including Govan Law Centre. She used to spent her Friday nights in Ballahouston watching Govan kids and asylum seeker children play basketball (totally different kettle of fish from a photo op at a food bank). You could easily bump into her as part of Glasgow ('s hard) life. Even as Health Minister. So she's the most credible politician personally imo, I just can't stomach the party.

I think people like that she's not a career politician, when she joined the SNP they were going nowhere...

StillLostAtTheStation · 04/04/2015 20:22

Oh hilarious . You post something meaningless and take the huff when asked to explain it.

PrimalLass · 04/04/2015 20:24

Why ? I've no interest in knowing.

Then why post about it?

StillLostAtTheStation · 04/04/2015 20:26

I was commenting it wasn't an accent I can place- statement of fact . Doesn't follow i have any interest in finding out.

Clarabumps · 04/04/2015 20:27

She's from Irvine which is a ten minute drive from me. She has an Ayrshire accent. Glad that issue is now put to bed.

Christinayangstwistedsister · 04/04/2015 20:28

It obviously meant something to you since all your recents posts have commented on it. Huff??? Er yes I shall go in a huff when I have stopped being a nationalist ,googling my history and astounding your dh.... Too busy for a huff just now.

Ubik1 · 04/04/2015 20:28

Of course it's not true.

What possible advantage could there be for Scotland in a Tory government remaining at Westminster.

What was more sickening was seeing the Scotyish Labour MSPs joyfully tweeting a story from the Tory press.

And it has been denied by both sides. Shame on them all for publishing and teeth v this story - it's hearsay, there are no independent witnesses. It's an offence to journalism. And we are supposed to be in purdah FFS.

dementedma · 04/04/2015 20:35

Of course Scots form part of the army. The British army. Not the Scottish army.
If Scotland does become independent it will need its own armed forces and will be unable to rely on the British Army/Navy/Air Force. Personnel currently serving serve as British soldiers/sailors/airmen. Whether they will want to switch to a such smaller home guard is an interesting question.

chocoluvva · 04/04/2015 20:35

It truly is an offence to journalism - well put.

starwarslegoboy · 04/04/2015 20:36

UKbik1

Yes but it's still depressing. I still expected better from the Labour party. Their response has been the final nail for me and as a result, today I joined the SNP. I was a reluctant Yes voter too, although having taken the decision, I was fierce, which is my way, but I did feel there were few options left. As I say, final nail....

Christinayangstwistedsister · 04/04/2015 20:41

Ubik

Great posts

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/04/2015 21:29

Alan Cochrane, Scottish Editor of Telegraph on being asked by Alistair Darling to spike an unhelpful column (during referendum)

'Jenny said I should do what Darling asks. He’s in charge after all. It’s not really good journalism but what the hell does journalism matter? This is much more important.'

Says it all really Sad

wearenotinkansas · 04/04/2015 21:44

FWIW - as the post has moved on, I am in Scotland and won't be voting SNP. I will vote labour, as I don't want an independent Scotland and I won't vote of the Tories.

if it wasn't for their stance on independence I would have voted for the Greens

starwarslegoboy · 04/04/2015 21:45

ItsAll

Was there any reaction/defence from Darling?

wearenotinkansas · 04/04/2015 22:29

What possible advantage could there be for Scotland in a Tory government remaining at Westminster.

Seriously? It would be a massive boost to the SNP goal of independence. yet more of "Scotland doesn't get the government it votes for" rhetoric that we heard during the indy campaign

not that i think the story is true. I don't believe Nicola is that stupid

Tamerlaine · 04/04/2015 22:41

Haven't read the full thread, but I'm guessing that inbetween a lot of foggy speculation about Scottish politics - and obsession with the fact that Scottish people 'get' free prescriptions, higher education and personal care (for the elderly), the same old bunch of posters will pop on to argue that they don't want universal services and benefits anyway. And someone will try to turn the entire thread into a detailed discussion about corruption in Edinburgh City Council.

TheChandler · 04/04/2015 22:56

Tamerlaine Haven't read the full thread, but I'm guessing that inbetween a lot of foggy speculation about Scottish politics - and obsession with the fact that Scottish people 'get' free prescriptions, higher education and personal care (for the elderly), the same old bunch of posters will pop on to argue that they don't want universal services and benefits anyway. And someone will try to turn the entire thread into a detailed discussion about corruption in Edinburgh City Council.

Funny, I get the exactly the same feeling about the SNP footsoldiers, who generally trudge along midway through an interesting thread to complain about "all the anti-Scottish vitriol" and "the usual posters making the same old points". But explain to me why you cannot mention such things in a fairer and more just society?

So, no-one can provide a valid explanation as to why the Scottish Government has consistently failed to tackle widespread public sector corruption in the capital city, and has effectively hidden it under the carpet? Can you imagine that happening in London? But a few feeble attempts to explain it away/minimise it/deny it. You do know we have plenty of other legislation to tackle non-paying flat-owners in a shared building?

If they roll out that legislation to the rest of Scotland, we'll really be in trouble!

Tamerlaine · 04/04/2015 23:05

Ah - so you're the one with the undying obsession with Edinburgh City Council.

See to be honest, I don't know that much about the inner workings of Edinburgh City Council. But you obviously do. You know so very much about corruption in the council and its impact on property ownership that it seems to crop up in each and every thread about Scottish matters.

And I'd wholeheartedly encourage you to do something about it in some other capacity, because I don't think that railing about it continually on mumsnet is going to get the results you're looking for.

Please, take it to the press, raise it with your MP/MSP, complain to every public and professional body you can.

starwarslegoboy · 04/04/2015 23:27

Well said Tamerlaine
