How do you think they are going to 'end austerity'? How will this be financed? You can't just suddenly invest more in infrastructure etc to create more jobs if there is no.money.

If it is going to be financed by stopping trident, then we will lose US support - not really a good idea....

Labour are going to increase tax for higher payers, mansion tax etc in order to fund their investments.

I live in Yorkshire and we really don't get the support for SNP. They don't make sense to me, but as they seem to be so popular, please can someone actually why?

Sorry about the mistakes, please can someone explain how the SNP policies differ and why they are good? As they may play a part in the next gov I would like to know!

People in Scotland will vote for SNP. They look after Scottish interests full stop! Why wouldn't you vote for them... They didn't want other parts of the UK voting for independence yet want a real say when it suits them. If they have enough money to give out free prescriptions and uni fees....

They clearly have more money then they know what to do with.

MrsWedgeAntilies · 03/04/2015 11:28

One of the reasons I support the SNP
is that they support the removal of Trident. In the last year alone there have been photos of nuclear weapons being taken in convoy
through Glasgow at night and rphotos of a similar convoy of high
sided vehicles containing the
torpedos crossing the Erskine bridge
when it was closed due to high
winds. I'm not sure if this is still the
case but certainly in the past the
lifting gear for the torpedos was the
wrong size making it much more
likely there would be an accident. My
whole family live within the area that
would be affected if there was a
nuclear accident or a rogue foreign
power decided to try to take out our
nuclear weapons.

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/04/2015 11:33

If I was Scottish I would vote for them, without a shadow of a doubt.

antumbra · 03/04/2015 11:34

Yes I will be voting SNP- along with most of us in Scotland.

Eigg · 03/04/2015 11:35

Removal of Trident is a fantastic idea. Worth the loss of US support tbh.

KatieScarlettreregged · 03/04/2015 11:36

Yes, I will be. Judging on past performance I'm happy to continue.

antumbra · 03/04/2015 11:37

They clearly have more money then they know what to do with.

Yeah, Scotland have always been the rich quarter of the UK. Hmm

MrsWedgeAntilies · 03/04/2015 11:37

Apart from the Trident issue, the SNP
has been really good in government in Scotland and they do, in general speak plainly and do what they say they will. For decades Scotland has had no real voice in Westminster, we return Labour MPs with such predictability that they take us for granted and there's no point in the Conservatives trying woo us with policies as we just don't vote for them. People here are very attracted to a party who look as though they will speak for us.

whattheseithakasmean · 03/04/2015 11:39

I am in Scotland & will definately not vote SNP. They are parochial, over centralist & controlling. They are making promises they can't afford to deliver, but enough people will obviously fall for the rhetoric to keep them in power, which makes me feel quite gloomy. no good can come of divisive nationalist politics.

sweetkitty · 03/04/2015 11:39

Everything MrsWedgeAntilles said

MrsWedgeAntilies · 03/04/2015 11:42

Eigg, I don't think the Scottish Government has the full support of the USA in any case and they don't seem highly bothered - the banana wars and the fall out over Al.Megrahi seems to have made any difference at all.

DowntownFunk · 03/04/2015 11:45

Yes, I'm voting SNP. YANBU to ask.

I feel sorry for those unable vote SNP.

If the current polls are correct, there are interesting times ahead.

To PP asking about their policies. The SNP are against austerity cuts. They think that moderate increases to public spending is the way to go while not financing the Trident replacement. They are against tuition fees, bedroom tax and loopholes that allow large corporations to dodge paying tax here. They also want the House of Lords abolished (why should an unelected body get paid £300 a day tax free just to turn up/why should they have a say in the running of the country).

They also want independence for Scotland.

I agree with Scotland being independent but feel that the need for independence would diminish if the Westminster government was run in an above board, straightforward manner, working for ALL the people of the country and not holding them in contempt.

TerryTheGreenHorse · 03/04/2015 11:45

I thought Nicola Sturgeon came over really well in the debates.

Bloody hell, I'd probably vote for her but I'm Welsh.

HangingInAGruffaloStance · 03/04/2015 11:47

The SNP have shown themselves able to manage a budget.

The Scottish Government's budget comes from UK taxpayer money. Scottish people pay tax. Scotland gets a fairly allocated portion of that (Scottish contribution to UK tax is higher than UK average).

Scottish government have made savings in ways that seem alien to other systems in the UK. For example major building projects (hospitals, bridges etc) are not done under PFI. There isn't constant reorganising of the nhs, and education systems are more straightforward, with less examination of young children and all the related pressures. There have also been savings by reducing administrative structures e.g. Amalgamation of police forces.

I don't say the SNP are perfect, but they have governed Scotland very successfully. The wider media would have people believe that the Scottish government has a massive blank cheque and no responsibilities. Which is crap obviously. Why on earth would all the Westminster parties have been so deeply opposed to Independence if Scotland was a big drain?

Cherrypi · 03/04/2015 11:49

I was very impressed by Nicola Sturgeon last night. Hope we get a labour/SNP coalition. Sure we'd hear more from Nicola Sturgeon than we did from Nick Clegg.

They make sense to me because they have a proven track record, maybe people in Yorkshire should take a look at that to help them understand.

Misslgl88 · 03/04/2015 11:55

I too will be voting SNP because I truely believe that under them we will get independence one day maybe not through referendum again but maybe through a system like New Zealand? I think it was who clawed back power bit by bit.

Also I want out nhs protected I know a lot of people say we already have control over our nhs but technically we don't westminster controls how much money we get retuened to spend on these things so if spending is cut or privatisation does fo ahead scotland will get it too. I just want a far better future for my kids and grandkids than westminster can provide.

I too like Nicola sturgeon she is straight to the point and not scared to say what she thinks especially after the false promises we were made by westminster that have still not come to fruition.

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/04/2015 11:55

I though Nicola Sturgeon performed very well last night as well. It's by no means a sure measure of how good a leader she is and will continue to be but her confidence was impressive and if I were Scottish, it would be reassuring.

I was impressed by Leanne Wood as well, she did very well at reminding DC, EM and indeed the rest of the UK that Wales exists and has some very real issues, entirely separate from England. Wales is not a county of England.

I am very much not impressed at the commentary in today's newspapers about that Leanne Wood has a Welsh accent. As though that should be shocking in a Welsh woman. As though that was all she brought to the debate.

RJnomore · 03/04/2015 11:56

I won't. They continue to spend money they don't have and their entire government is based on smoke and mirrors. Their ideas are nice but utterly unworkable. And they still can't see over the lid of the shortbread tin.

I did think wee nic held her own well last night though. Even though I was very aware at least some of what she was talking was shite.

I haven't worked out who I WILL vote for this time. My 15 yo however has turned out to be a lib dem.

frankie80 · 03/04/2015 11:57

On a cold day in hell

"Most of Scotland will be voting for them"

Most of Scotland voted against them in September's referendum.

And everyone I speak to, bar about 3 people, are not voting them in May.

Alisvolatpropiis · 03/04/2015 11:58

Sorry just realised my comments re Leanne Wood were massively off point Blush

RJnomore · 03/04/2015 12:00

Perhaps off point alis but also completely correct!

lovingmatleave · 03/04/2015 12:02

Agree with whattheseithakasmean. I will not be voting for them. I don't see how they can finance their plans (look at what has happened to oil prices since their forecasts during the referendum - we would be up shit creek if they had won the referendum). They did the right thing though in ditching slimey Salmond. Nicola is doing a much better job and I think she will able to massively increase the SNP vote.
