To be a bit upset by the Dr .

Today I went to the Dr as I have a wart on my finger. I have had them before and have had them frozen which in the past has worked. I would pay for the treatment but over counter stuff just doesn't work.

Went to the Dr who was so condescending and said such things as
:well what do you want me to do about it?
:In two years it will go away on its own as your body will eventually produce antibodies to fight it.

:have you tried rubbing a diamond ring on it that's supposed to work?
Or I could just wave my magic wand on it and make it go away.

I felt like I was wasting his time and left crying.

Please bear in mind that I go to the Drs once or twice a year.

He sounds as though he could do with a refresher course on bedside manners, but crying is surely a bit of an over reaction?

passthewineplz · 02/04/2015 12:14

Wow! That's a bit rude. I'd speak to the dr's surgery about their complaint procedure and write a letter to the practice manager

toomuchtooold · 02/04/2015 12:15

I believe the NHS is being a lot less keen these days to do anything about warts as it's seen as cosmetic and they don't do cosmetic treatments. Never mind that they can be really painful and make it difficult e.g. to hold a pen. I'd go private if I were you.

I don't know why your GP couldn't just say they don't do it on the NHS instead of being patronising and unpleasant.

threegoingonthirty · 02/04/2015 12:16

Yes, it sounds like his communication skills could have been a bit better, and you should be able to get it frozen again either by referral or at the surgery - but bear in mind it's the Thursday before a long BH weekend and GPs are absolutely inundated with ill people. The day before a long weekend isn't the best time to find a nice relaxed GP for a non-urgent problem.

PTAblues · 02/04/2015 12:19

Yes he is an arse but have you tired all the other methods that people on here rave about for warts and verruccas. Apple cider vinegar or duct tape? Friend got rid of her stubborn verucca using apple cider vinegar.

What treatment have you had in the past?

3littlefrogs · 02/04/2015 12:27

The doctor was unnecessarily rude - there was no need for that behaviour.
Some surgeries offer a cryotherapy service, others don't.

The only OTC remedy that works, IME, is the freezing method. The paint on stuff is useless. Ask the pharmacist to sell you the correct product. You should be able to treat the wart at home easily.
Sorry you were upset.

Missda · 02/04/2015 12:27

three I booked the appointment over a fortnight ago, it was the first non emergency I could get I hadn't clicked on that it was just before the bank holiday.

PTA I have used duck tape, cider vinegar, banana skin, plasters, numerous over counter stuff. The Dr was really the last call because I know that 12 months ago I had another wart on another finger that they froze and got rid of.

angstridden2 I couldn't help getting teary.

hellsbellsmelons · 02/04/2015 12:33

well what do you want me to do about it?
You - same as last time please. Refer me so I can have it frozen off. I don't like it and it's causing me problems and I want rid of it. That's what I want you to do about it. I trust that is OK. Thanks for your help.

hellsbellsmelons · 02/04/2015 12:33

Honestly, if a doctor spoke to me like that I'd be having words with him.

3littlefrogs · 02/04/2015 12:35

Have you tried the freezy OTC stuff?

I found it brilliant, having tried loads of paint on stuff and many expensive visits to the chiropodist over 5 years to get rid of a huge, very deep verrucca.
Bought the freezy stuff and it took 2 treatments and it did the trick - never to return.

Apatite1 · 02/04/2015 12:36

What bizarre behaviour. I'd find another doctor!

CapnMurica · 02/04/2015 12:37

He was rude. YANBU there.

But the freezing stuff they do is the same as the over the counter freezing stuff. Buy that, it worked for the two massive warts I had on my fingers.

Missda · 02/04/2015 12:37

3littlefrogs Yes have tried that too it right close to nail so hard to get.

hells I did he had none of it.

OP posts:
Missda · 02/04/2015 12:39

Capn yeah the stuff over counter has never been effective the only thing that has ever worked is dr doing it.

hellsbellsmelons · 02/04/2015 13:46

Good grief - definitely find a new doctor.
He seems to be a real charmer!

BarbarianMum · 02/04/2015 13:52

Did you ask him to freeze it? What did he say?

Missda · 02/04/2015 13:58

Barbarian I said to Dr that I wanted him to freeze it. He replied no it doesn't work. (This was despite me saying that it had worked for me.)

Had terrible cluster on my thumb for years. Just grew and grew. I kept knocking it as it was in a really awkward place and got a really bad infection tracking up my arm. Went to the doctors prescribed antibiotics and it just went. Nothing else they could do as they don't freeze it and suggested duct tape but I am allergic to plasters so it would literally make my skin peel off.

Apparently went you knock it and damage it, it causes antibodies to rush to the site and attack the virus to remove the wart. Took a long time and lots of pain to get there though.

SoupDreggon · 02/04/2015 14:08

The only over the counter treatment I found worked was the Max Strength Bazuka, used religiously as per the instructions. None of the freezy stuff or duct tape etc made any difference.

Your doctor was incredibly rude.

BarbarianMum · 02/04/2015 14:09

Oh, right so freezing doesn't work but rubbing with a diamond does Hmm

Sorry he sounds like an idiot.

Fizzielove · 02/04/2015 14:31

My son had one frozen on his hand and a verucca on his toe done a couple of weeks ago by the GP !

alleypalley · 02/04/2015 14:44

Did you ask him if you could get the diamond on prescription?

grannytomine · 02/04/2015 16:09

It isn't true that they go after two years, well not for me anyway. I had a small one on my hand for 20 years, I froze it off myself.
