To spend the beginning of my maternity leave reading mumsnet?

I've been on maternity leave for 2 weeks 4 days now. Baby is due in 9 days.

Baby's clothes are washed. Hospital bag is packed. Car is freshly serviced and MOTd. Freezer is full with home cooking. Laundry basket is as low as it can get without risking cross-dying clothes. Cupboards are full with food and cupboard upstairs has 2 x 18 pack of loo rolls in. Pram, cot, car seat and moses basket are bought and ready for use.

I am now spending my time reading Mumsnet Talk and eating Sainsbury's hazelnut chocolate spread Nutella out of the jar.

Is this reasonable or is there something else I should be doing?

Ooooh! Yanbu at all! Treasure tese last few days of having nothing to do. I am jealous! Enjoy it OP. There is nothing you "should" be doing, just do whatever you feel like doing.

londonrach · 02/04/2015 11:41

Research!!!! Very important reading so Go ahead!!!

theconstantvacuumer · 02/04/2015 11:42

That sounds absolutely reasonable to me! Relax as much as possible and enjoy the peace and quiet. And the Nutella Grin

Beatrixemerald · 02/04/2015 11:42

Sounds like utter bliss! I had 4 weeks maternity before dd and it was heaven. Enjoy every second

adognamedboo · 02/04/2015 11:42

Nope, nbu at all. I'm on mat leave too, 2 1/2 weeks to go and other than keeping on top of the cleaning (planning home birth) that's pretty much all I do.
Apart from the nutella. It has to be real nutella. sainsburys one is rank
Grin

Pointlessfan · 02/04/2015 11:46

YANBU. I wish I'd done that then I might have been a bit more prepared!

Quinandthem · 02/04/2015 11:56

Don't forget to record/download your favourite tv series.

When dd was born and I was bfing for what felt like hours I found a channel showing ER from the beginning.

Donatellalymanmoss · 02/04/2015 12:02

No this is the last time you'll get to do whatever you want with no real responsibilities for an absolute age, do whatever you want.

Donatellalymanmoss · 02/04/2015 12:03

Oh yes ER repeats also coincided with DS1 maternity leave, happy memories.

mupperoon · 02/04/2015 12:08

I spent a lot of my pre baby leave helpless with laughter over the Classics threads. Nearly giggled the baby out. She's turned out pretty giggly too. YANBU.

Other than chomping on ice cubes instead of nutella I am in exactly the same boat! Downloading the MN app was possibly one of the best/worst things I've done since being on leave depending on how productive I am/should be!

We should definitely enjoy the peace whilst we can! Grin

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 02/04/2015 12:30

I do that most days Easter Blush
Enjoy!

Mrscog · 02/04/2015 12:37

YANBU but FFS enjoy it. I'm 38 weeks with DC2, and doing it 2nd time around with a toddler is hell. I have no idea how I'm going to get through the day to bedtime. I had 6 weeks of wonderful time off before DC1 and was well rested, relaxed and organised. This time.... wreck springs to mind.

MrsMook · 02/04/2015 12:46

I got into mumsnet a week before Ds2 was born. I could do very little because of SPD, and my usual sources of entertainment/ procrastination couldn't keep up with my needs.
With Ds1 I played computer games most of the day as there was nothing else that I was physically and mentally capable of doing.

Enjoy the peace while it lasts!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 02/04/2015 13:24

What is cross-drying clothes?

ladyrosy · 02/04/2015 13:29

LuisSuarezTeeth - I meant that I don't want to accidentally dye the white clothes pink by washing them with red and pink clothes. :)

Thank you ladies for the reassurance. adognamedboo, you're right about the Sainsbury's chocolate spread. It's sloppy, and not in a good way. I will upgrade to nutella at my earliest convenience.

splodgeses · 02/04/2015 13:30

Luis... cross-DYING as in changing their colours by washing them all together. Not sure that it really happens these days.

I wash all clothes as they need washing, no reading of care labels whatsoever, and we aren't wandering around naked yet. Grin

Enjoy your mat leave OP, especially the baby-free side of it!

LuisSuarezTeeth · 03/04/2015 08:51

Oh dreadful misread by me sorry!!!Grin

StripeyTulip · 03/04/2015 08:56

I did that too - as a pp said, essential research for a pfb, I knew nothing of the mummy/baby world before MN! Make the most of it (I had two weeks less than expected Easter Confused )

Archer26 · 03/04/2015 08:58

Writerwannabe83 · 03/04/2015 16:38

Sounds like absolute heaven!!!!

I'm very jealous of your impending baby Easter Grin

Congratulations and hope everything goes well with the birth Flowers

Charley50 · 03/04/2015 16:45

I'm not on maternity leave but I still spend most of my time on mumsnet! Enjoy your last few days of freedom!

BreeVDKamp · 03/04/2015 16:56

YANBU at all, I've been on 'maternity leave' since start of March and baby isn't due until May!! Loving it so far but sometimes teetering on the edge of boredom. Mumsnet saves the day though!

Flingingmelon · 03/04/2015 17:00
