AIBU to wish my dog didn't come back from the groomers smelling, as my late father would have said......

............like a Parisian tarts boudoir? Apparantly that's what the "products" smell like and there's nothing she can do about it.

Apart from anything else, it confuses the cats.

Why, what would the cats prefer the dogs to smell like?

Confused
MendipsMary · 01/04/2015 15:16

My dad would have said "smells like a hoo-ers handbag"..
Wish my dog smelled like that. He fecking stinks.

sparechange · 01/04/2015 15:16

I sent mine to the groomers just before Christmas and she came back smelling like mulled wine! They have a seasonal 'spritz'!

But I suppose you either need to find somewhere else that doesn't use smelly products, or send the dog in with its own shampoo that doesn't smell strongly.

Can't say my dog smells like anything other than a dog even a couple of days after a wash though...

Hakluyt · 01/04/2015 15:22
Grin

The cats would prefer she smelled of her. They keep on sidling up to her sideways, having a quick sniff and leaping six feet backwards.

And for some reason it lasts for ages on her- we've been to the stables and it's still as strong!

Love the idea of a seasonal spritz. Thinking about it, I bet what she smells of this time is supposed to be "spring flowers". There is definitely a hint of bluebell.

Scented products on dogs, with their very sensitive scent awareness seems a very weird invention. Maybe it's just like most people, strong scents to cover poor washing in the first place.

Hakluyt · 01/04/2015 15:34

Ironically, she usually doesn't smell at all- only if she's been swimming or rolls in something disgusting. No "doggy" smell at all. Just when she's been stripped she smells of "Quelque Fleurs"!

I KNEW that was going to be the phrase. KNEW it Grin

DramaAlpaca · 01/04/2015 15:41

I don't like my dog smelling of anything other than clean dog. I think it's a nice, warm, comforting sort of smell.

I can't imagine that with their sensitive noses dogs much like smelling of an artificial perfume either. I know that given a choice, mine prefers the smell of Eau de Fox Poo.

Grin at 'seasonal spritz'!

Hakluyt · 01/04/2015 15:45

I've just been chatting to a friend who told me that they have different scents for dogs and bitches. I do so hope it's an April Fool.......

My late father would so have said "tart's boudoir" too Grin.

I don't have a dog but when my mum used to take hers to the groomers, he just used to come back smelling 'clean'. I don't remember any perfume....

SoupDreggon · 01/04/2015 15:50

I like the way my dog smells aft coming back from the groomers. It makes a change from horse shit and general eau de spaniel.

IUseAnyName · 01/04/2015 15:52

What type of dog is it?.... Ours just gets a shower at home :/

PUGaLUGS · 01/04/2015 15:53

Change groomers? Sheesh if you are not happy with the smell do something about it.

fairyfuckwings · 01/04/2015 15:57

The dog we had as a child always used to run off into the fields and roll in whatever poo he could find when he got back from the groomers. He absolutely hated it!

I knew it was going to be "tarts boudoir"! Not heard that phrase fir ages Grin

ssd · 01/04/2015 15:58

I thought you were going to say something else Grin

daren't say it on here

Hakluyt · 01/04/2015 16:00

She's a Border, so needs to be hand stripped. And can't be shampooed very often because of having an oiled coat. So it's only about 3 times a year she smells all Bond Street.

Should I have put "lighthearted" in the title? Grin

Was it 'whores drawers' by any chance..?

Nohootingchickenssleeping · 01/04/2015 16:24

Just tell them not to use fragrance after the bath. It's not essential but most owners like it. Or could it be the chalk used for stripping?

BishopBrennansArse · 01/04/2015 16:27

I normally wash mine outdoors with the hose in the summer. When a bath is unavoidable in the winter I've had to use a groomers.

The smell last time though was overpowering. Ugh.

Eva50 · 01/04/2015 16:29

My Dad would have said "smelling like the inside of a Lassies handbag". Dh now says that about the teenagers!

Boofy27 · 01/04/2015 16:29

An ex looked up at me in wonder, having sniffed the dog on his return from the groomers'. "just like an Italian baby," she exclaimed.

This really threw me, I like the smell of baby just as much as the next woman but I felt a sense of wounded national pride, "how do Italian babies smell better than the bog standard Western European ones?" I asked.

"They must spray them with dog perfume," she replied.

The dog had rolled in fox poo within ten minutes.

hackmum · 01/04/2015 16:32

I just ask them not to use any perfumed stuff on my dog.

championnibbler · 01/04/2015 16:42

I love it when dogsy comes back from a thorough grooming smelling like he's been through every single Harvey Nicks perfume stand Grin.
smell lasts about 1 day and then its back to normal eau de doggy.

Hakluyt · 01/04/2015 17:04

That's interesting, nohooting- it does smell sort of powdery.

Boofy, Italian babies, and Spanish ones, smell like special baby cologne that's used to cool them down in hot weather. It's a wonderful smell- I always used to get my db to bring me loads of it back from Spain.
