to prefer Easter...

....as opposed to Christmas?
Nice long weekend with (hopefully) decent weather.
Apart from buying a few Easter eggs no huge present angst.
No fuss about seeing family.
Might do a nice roast on Sunday...might not.
All very chilled and lovely.

Much prefer Easter here. We've never done much except buy the DCs a couple of eggs. No decorating, no tat to buy, no obligation to send things to distant relatives.

Lighter evenings, warmer (hopefully!) days, daffodils, lambs in the field nearby, birds arguing about who is going to nest where in our garden. All much better than dark, cold, complicated Christmas.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 02/04/2015 14:36

Love spring-time and yes I appreciate the much less stress aspect as well.
A nice Easter egg hunt with DC in garden with blossom coming out - lovely
Then spend a few days with DGP's (DPs) and siblings may possibly pop in too if they feel like it.
Christmas has gone a bit crazy in our generation, I do feel that
Although possibly with the dreadful mid-winter weather more pressie distraction is needed!
Easter is so easy Thanks Best time of year with summer ahead Easter Smile

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 02/04/2015 14:42

I prefer Christmas. We don't tend to do anything for Easter. Christmas is much more fun and exciting.

BaconAndAvocado · 02/04/2015 18:49

YANBU buuuuuut.......Christmas wins every time! I am devoted sufferer of OCD (Obsessive Christmas Disorder) and lovingly start planning proceedings in early September............only 5 months to go Grin

BaconAndAvocado · 02/04/2015 18:50

Sorry, that should be Easter Grin

merrymouse · 02/04/2015 19:03

I love the excuse to press pause and hibernate in front of the fire at Christmas.

FabulousFudge · 02/04/2015 19:08

Easter is better than Christmas!

Sparklingbrook · 02/04/2015 19:08

I prefer everything to Christmas. Grin Christmas is all a bit samey. There's no pressure to do stuff you don't want to at Easter.

merrymouse · 02/04/2015 19:08

I also like the fact that Christmas weather lives up/down to expectations - OK it rarely snows, but you know it will be dark and probably cold and you can plan accordingly.

Spring weather is so unpredictable in this country - might snow, might be blah, might be a heatwave - who knows?

DanGleeBalls · 02/04/2015 19:31

I like them both the same because it means I get to eat lots of chocolate!

I'm looking forward to this Easter weekend much more than Christmas. DH happens to have the weekend off and he never gets Christmas.

I haven't had to spend much money even though I've bought eggs for lots of extended family. Christmas I'm always still paying for in March but Easter is done and dusted for twenty quid. Brilliant.

I'm going to have a nice Easter tea with friends on Saturday and bake some yummy stuff tomorrow. I don't feel I have to make time to see every family member on the face of the earth - I just see who I like.

Then on Sunday I'm going to sit around in PJs and stuff chocolate until I feel too sick to keep going - or the PJs no longer fit, whichever happens first Grin.

I was so happy this afternoon, thinking of a lovely break from work coming up and lots of chocolate bought. I really like that the shops are shut on Sunday, quite aside from any religious aspect, as it's a day I can't go anywhere anyway.

Christmas I always think is going to be wonderful and magical but it feels a bit of a let down afterwards. Easter I have no expectations really except some nice food and so usually really enjoy it. Plus, April is my favourite month. Easter gets my vote! Easter Smile

Another one here who much prefers Easter - last year, it was a gorgeous day (first in ages) so we went to my favourite seaside town for lunch. It was the most lovely day and I have some beautiful photos. This year, DC are with their dad, so I will do the egg hunt when they get home and weather forecast suggests nicer weather in the week, so we will do our seaside trip then.

Easter for me signals spring, which brings us into summer - longer evenings and better weather for day trips. And less pressure than Christmas.

chrome100 · 03/04/2015 05:40

For those that hate Christmas - you know, it doesn't HAVE to be stressful. It's what you make it. Lower your expectations, spend less, don't do elf on the sodding shelf and it too can be a peaceful family time.

Effendi · 03/04/2015 06:14

I like Easter too, long weekend, nicer weather. I'm in Cyprus and it is a huge deal for the Greeks/Cypiots, bigger than Christmas. Our Easter is next week.

Harbourgirl · 03/04/2015 06:30

Whilst I like Easter & am really looking forward to this weekend, I do love Xmas and the magic of it. I appreciate, though, that this may be because I have young DC who get ridiculously excited to find Father Christmas has eaten his mince pie, can be swayed into thinking with a lot of not so subtle hints that the toy or bike or whatever I have picked up second hand is what they have always dreamed of and should be at the top of their Christmas letter and are also thrilled with stocking fillers like whoopee cushions & skipping ropes. I am already looking forward to this Christmas!

Mehitabel6 · 03/04/2015 06:49

I don't hate Christmas! I have a lovely time and don't give it a thought before December. I just hate the way people start discussing it in August and decorating the house in November etc.
Easter is so much nicer in that it is very similar but doesn't have the build up.

SconessMcFloness · 03/04/2015 08:48

Hate Christmas and all the shit that goes with it...Easter is always better for me - but I think the dcs would disagree.

Sparklingbrook · 03/04/2015 08:58

I don't find Christmas stressful just boring and samey.

Bunbaker · 03/04/2015 09:00

I don't find Christmas stressful at all. I just hate the time of year - midwinter, dark, cold. I hate that we have a small, very scattered family. I hate feeling that everyone else is having fun and we aren't. I hate that we have family members who probably won't see next Christmas.

My ideal Christmas would be spent somewhere warm where they don't "do" Christmas, but until DD leaves school that isn't going to happen.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 03/04/2015 09:49

I prefer Christmas, I think. The decorations, the excitement - and the fact that it isn't so chocolate based. I know Easter doesn't have to be, but it generally is - and the children just can't eat that much of it! Well they're still quite small, as they get bigger I'm sure they'll manage.

I do like them both though.

OnlyLovers · 03/04/2015 09:54

chrome, I do take your point, but my problem with it is other people's expectations rather than mine.

I'd happily ignore it but there is always family pressure about what I'm doing, am I going abroad again, oh well that's nice, we'll just have a quiet one, etc etc.

Mumblechum1 · 03/04/2015 10:08

That's exactly what we do and you don't have to wait till DD finishes school! This is where we spent the last 2 Christmases: www.fawakayvillas.com/

EastMidsMummy · 03/04/2015 10:11

The promise of spring is nicer than the dark of winter, which is why humanity goes all-out for a monster celebration then. That's why Christmas is way better than Easter. Easter is a half-arsed nothingness. Easter trees?? WTF??

Bifflepants · 03/04/2015 10:23

I prefer Christmas all the way. It's in summer here, and I've moved away from all my troublesome family, so it's just our little family unit, and all our happy traditions. We don't do anything for Easter at all. I do love Autumn here though, although Easter in Autumn is just weird and wrong.

Morelikeguidelines · 03/04/2015 10:41

Yes I prefer it too. All the reasons people have said.
