to prefer Easter...

....as opposed to Christmas?
Nice long weekend with (hopefully) decent weather.
Apart from buying a few Easter eggs no huge present angst.
No fuss about seeing family.
Might do a nice roast on Sunday...might not.
All very chilled and lovely.

Same springtulip :) my dd was born April 19th last year and my son was born right at the end of February 2007. I love spring babies as the mornings are lighter!

ilovesooty · 01/04/2015 14:23

Anything in the spring is better than Christmas.

Underthedeepblueocean · 01/04/2015 14:36

Let's not forget chocolate! :)

Mumblechum1 · 01/04/2015 14:40

I much prefer Easter to Christmas, no hassle whatsoever, just lovely flowers, chocolate, hot x buns and a few days off work with some hope of sunshine.

We're so over Christmas now that DS is grown up we tend to go to Morocco to avoid it all now Grin

Bettercallsaul1 · 01/04/2015 14:44

I think there's fewer expectations for Easter - you can make it a big family day or ignore it completely. With Christmas, a lot more is generally expected so it is more stressful.

26Point2Miles · 01/04/2015 15:26

Hate how the shops try to turn it into a 'christmas' type event tho

Trying to get us to buy decorations/cards/presents ... They don't want us to get away with just buying a chocolate egg

My feelings exactly. It has the unfortunate effect that I tend to try to go abroad, somewhere where I can ignore Christmas. I mean, it's nice, but it means I don't see family and I think they'd probably like to see me at Christmas.

It's just so STRESSFUL though, and public transport is so busy and expensive.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 01/04/2015 17:37

YY to less expectations.
DD was born in the spring as well.

X post with everyone. Children so looking forward to it. I am So looking forward to it. Doing a high tea party for family and an egg hunt In The garden Easter Smile

Shockers · 01/04/2015 21:19

I have really come to dislike Christmas intensely. The 2 month build up, the excess, the enforced jollity...

I love Easter. I love the warmth of the spring sun on my face (although that's a bit lacking this year!), the new life, the looking forward... The lack of pressure.

My eldest is coming to stay for the weekend, I've bought some new cycling pants, and I might even cook a turkey dinner Grin.

FrancesNiadova · 01/04/2015 21:34

I love Easter & spring. I live in the countryside & the sheep are all lambing just about....................now!
My favourite flowers are daffodils, so bright & sassy!
I do hope, please God, that this year, I will be able to enjoy April, May & June & not be recovering from major surgery, like I have been for the last 4 years. I want to walk everywhere, enjoy the early sunshine & thank my lucky stars that I'm up & about!

RaggyAnnie · 01/04/2015 21:42

Same here. The children have 2 weeks off school and we can usually spend a decent amount of time outside as the evenings are getting lighter.

Cheaper, less expectation and no enforced work outing.

Bunbaker · 02/04/2015 08:02

"But it's kind of boring isn't it? Compared to Christmas anyway. There's only a couple of films ever made based at Easter, barely any children's books, not really that much of a big deal made of the Easter bunny in this country at least, most people don't decorate for it (but we do have a tree wink). It just doesn't have the same excitement, build up or cheer that Christmas has"

Mousefinkle Those are precisely the reasons why I prefer Easter. I like a holiday that doesn't attract all the paraphernalia and fuss that Christmas does. I don't want to decorate up for Easter. Is this an MN thing? I have never heard of Easter trees before reading about them on MN.

The build up to Christmas is so long that by the time Christmas comes around I am bored of it. DD is a teenager now and she says that Christmas has lost its magic.

echt · 02/04/2015 08:07

I like Easter, though as I'm in Australia it's autumn. The weather's more reliable with warm but not hot days, and lots of lovely flowers in the garden. The clocks go back this weekend so shorter evenings (boo, hiss), but at least it's not dark at 7.00. a.m.

An unusual aspect of the place is that Good Friday's a public holiday and the whole place shuts down. In a nominally secular country.

NormHonal · 02/04/2015 08:15

YANBU. Even though the weather's not up to much at the moment, there are so many more things to get out and do with the DCs rather than shuttling between relatives and sitting round being polite about shit presents. I'd happily trade a week of the school Christmas holidays for an extra week at Easter, there is always loads to try to cram in!

We do still get the pressure to see family at Easter, even from the side of the family we spent Christmas with Easter Hmm and in previous years have been forced into the position of "ok, we saw them at Christmas so we will spend Easter with you" but have ignored it this year and will be stuffing our faces with chocolate in our pyjamas. Easter Smile

londonrach · 02/04/2015 08:23

I love easter. Decorating my easter tree! I have a box of easter decoration and much prefer it to christmas. Nicer holiday!

londonrach · 02/04/2015 08:24

We have smilies with ears!!! [tubsmile]

londonrach · 02/04/2015 08:24

Sorry my dyslexic hit there. Try again Easter Smile

Ledkr · 02/04/2015 08:25

We are away until Saturday then having a big family birthday party on Monday. This means i have no obligation to do anything on Sunday.
Dh at work so me and dds will go to church have an easter egg hunt followed by a nice roast and some crap tv.
I am bizarrely excited about a day of doing nothing!

Bunbaker · 02/04/2015 13:22

So, what is an Easter tree? Is it for people with Christmas tree withdrawal symptoms and mumsnetters or is it a real thing?

I grew up in a family that took Easter seriously and we never had an Easter tree.

Charlotte3333 · 02/04/2015 13:25

I love both holidays but I especially love the feeling of spring, having your windows open, going on walks, lighter nights, the children wanting to be outdoors all the time.

The only downside to spring is having four cats; they're forever finding nests of birds and merrily depositing dead ones through the cat flap.

Mehitabel6 · 02/04/2015 13:28

Much nicer. Public holidays so you get the best of Christmas- family, nice meal, decorations- without having the huge build up. Better weather and chocolate.

Mehitabel6 · 02/04/2015 13:30

I do an Easter tree. Twigs, flowers with egg, chick and rabbit decorations.

Bunbaker · 02/04/2015 13:32

I CBA to do an Easter tree. I find decorating at Christmas a chore and hate the clutter. I didn't even bother to put the Christmas cards up this time.

In fact, I don't know anyone who decorates for Easter. Maybe it is a generational thing.
