When I am working tonight and could feasibly pop in to the wool shop before work. But that means I can't finish my project today and can't crochet until friday.

Spinning is the start of a whole new addiction! It's possible to pick up an Ashford traditional for around £100 second hand or you can go simple and try a drop spindle. There is probably a guild of weavers, spinners and dyers nearby you where you could try stuff out.

EElisaveta it's a festival of wool!

www.woolfest.co.uk/

There's more than one I think, but I've been to the one in the Lake District twice, once I dragged DH though he enjoyed a day pottering on his own, and once I dragged DS in his buggy.

Now I realise I have a similar dilemma. I don't have a project on the go that I know where I am in (if you see what I mean). I think I have some hibernating projects but I've been doing a lot of sewing recently but have something in the machine that I'm waiting for some haberdashery to finish off, and I don't want to rethread the machine etc.

How can this have happened!

EponasWildDaughter · 01/04/2015 20:15

I haven't crocheted since i was 12. LOVED at the wool and all the colours. I made so many afghan blankets i had to give them out to everyone i could think of members of the family. Reading this thread has made me want to do it again! Now!

The loose lacy pink and blue poncho on Etsy i'd love to copy for the summer, and this blanket; the hexagonal squares one towards the bottom:

... ooooooh the colours

EponasWildDaughter · 01/04/2015 20:15

Loved all the wool.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/04/2015 20:20

Ponchos rock. I made one last year and my Mum liked it so much I'm making one for her now Smile

JoffreyBaratheon · 02/04/2015 13:49

I'm a handspinner as well! Can get an entire fleece (pounds and pounds of wool) for a fiver - sometimes get given em for free. That makes having a stash a lot more affordable! Of course then you fall down the rabbit holes of wheels and spindles, dyeing, using other types of fibre....

farewellfigure · 02/04/2015 14:05

I work 5 minutes from Loop in Islington silver but it's soooo expensive. I know that shouldn't be an issue though. It's a gorgeous shop.

Must start DS's pair of socks this weekend. I've been neglecting my stash. I am a bad bad knitter. I'll go and smooth the wool in a mo and say sorry to it.

Oh, and YADNBU but you know that OP. I hope you went!

Now I want to crochet an afghan... Do we really need any more baby/sofa blankets??
I fancy a Granny stripe to use up some scraps. That's a very virtuous thing to do, isn't it?

SoupDreggon · 02/04/2015 17:00

You could crochet one and donate it to Woolly Hugs :)

drspouse · 02/04/2015 21:53

I had a quick look at that and it seems they are quite specific about the yarns they use?

I would quite like to use stuff up!

SoupDreggon · 02/04/2015 23:10

Not for Little Hugs etc where you make a whole blanket, so long as it's soft and washable. :)

HookedOnHooking · 03/04/2015 08:40

I think I may need to do some little hugs. Is there a linky to what you need?

Little Hugs

SoupDreggon · 03/04/2015 08:42

Ongoing projects

If you are making a whole blanket, you can use anything washable.
If you are making a 12" square to go towards a bigger blanket it needs to be Stylecraft Special DK.

:)

drspouse · 03/04/2015 09:15

I am pretty sure all my scraps are washable, but I could test the whole blanket (and I'm sure a charity shop could use it if ran a little).

Shosha1 · 03/04/2015 14:41

I did this one for a charity auction. Recently

OK, I think I'm going to try this:

Kitsandkids · 03/04/2015 17:25

Someone asked why I don't knit on the bus. I have tried it but felt a bit self conscious. However, my 2 boys love soft play areas and I always take my knitting to them! It's a good excuse to sit and knit for a couple of hours - at home I always feel vaguely guilty that I'm not doing housework or anything!

HookedOnHooking · 03/04/2015 20:28

Ridiculous poncho.

Itsallkickingoffpru - you've achieved meme perfection. Yarn AND Sean bean. I salute you ma'am. :)

I'm moving house right now and packing up my stash. I think it might actually weigh more than I do.

And op - 20 miles? Pffft! You know it makes sense, go buy the lovely lovely yarn.

Shosha1 · 03/04/2015 20:48

I've just found out there is a wool shop in Wilton Shopping Village.

Open 7 days a week and 15 minutes away :)
