When I am working tonight and could feasibly pop in to the wool shop before work. But that means I can't finish my project today and can't crochet until friday.

Keep calm and carry yarn.

SoupDreggon · 01/04/2015 11:02

I regularly rescue yarn from charity shops. I feel sorry for it. I have a large box of old-but-unused yarn I use it make into things for the Woollly Hugs sales. I can't bear to think of that poor yarn, mistreated and abandoned... it is my civic duty to rescue it.

Theas18 · 01/04/2015 11:05

I too am rather concerned that you have no emergency stash ( and a back up stash under the bed in case of a zombie apocalypse!) .

Get to that shop!

TheFairyCaravan · 01/04/2015 11:07

I almost cried becuase my yarn delivery didn't happen on Saturday. I do have a stash, but I wanted that yarn!

JoffreyBaratheon · 01/04/2015 11:12

You would actually be being unreasonable if you didn't.

I've gone two counties away for Woolfest.

You need wool. Like an artist needs many different colour paints and all to hand.

gotthemoononastick · 01/04/2015 11:13

You are not unreasonable at all!Think of the unquiet feeling all day if you do not go!!!You know you want to go and stroke and touch all the wool in that shop!

Songofsixpence · 01/04/2015 11:19

Go go go!

I'm visiting my Mum at Easter so I can go to her fabric/yarn shop.

I'm waiting for some yarn to arrive so I can start an afghan blanket for one of my DDs. It was supposed to come yesterday but didn't. It's now coming tomorrow. I'm gutted, despite the fact that I don't actually need it as I'm half way through another afghan for my other DD and really should finish that before I start another

TheWoollybacksWife · 01/04/2015 11:27

kitsandkids why aren't you knitting on the bus? Grin All that wasted commuting time Shock

I take my knitting/crochet with me everywhere otherwise I'd spend hours staring into space at swimming lessons/footy training/ballet lessons and karate. In fact my son's karate teacher stopped the lesson a couple of weeks ago to ask where my knitting was, as I was between projects and took a book instead Blush

OP YANBU I travel miles for decent yarn. The economy needs crafters. You are doing your civic duty.

drspouse · 01/04/2015 11:35

I'm a little concerned that you do not have any emergency yarn stash.

Me too, though sometimes of course the current project is the only one you can get your head round working on even if there is more yarn and/or another project or five on the go.

HookedOnHooking · 01/04/2015 11:37

I do have a bit of a stash. Just a huge massive little one. But I neeeeed to finish my lovely poncho.

Anyway. I have new lovely poncho wool and vegan cheese so all is well with the wirld.

I'm very impatiently waiting for some Berrocco from the U.S. 7-10 days seems to last FOREVER!!

queenofwesteros · 01/04/2015 11:43

Of course YWNBU OP. I can't begin to get my head around the fact that anyone would think otherwise!! I have a fucking enormous small stash, but sometimes it's like this....

toffeeboffin · 01/04/2015 13:10

I wish I could knit, it sounds intoxicating!

And I could have a cooler MN name too Wink

DesertIslandPenguin · 01/04/2015 13:48

Buy it! Lack of yarn is practically an emergency.

PurpleDaisies · 01/04/2015 14:14

Do it! As soon as work calms down I'm off to an alpaca farm over an hour's drive away to buy some special wool for making a crochet alpaca. Have been itching to get started ever since my Edward's Menagerie crochet toy book arrived.

jeanmiguelfangio · 01/04/2015 15:13

You have to do it! If anything its the law to finish a project off before making another ignores wips in bags behind the chair also we are going to need a picture of that poncho.
Soup, you are a lovely person, running sort of an old wool orphanage. I gave some to the charity shop the other day, now i dont feel so bad!!

ZombieJenna · 01/04/2015 15:14

Definitely not unreasonable. I once drove 300 miles to visit inlaws get some specific wool for a jumper for DP.
I'm dying to start the Stylecraft crochet along on the 7th of April - my bag of yarn is all ready to go Grin

silversixpence · 01/04/2015 15:18

Definitely not being unreasonable! I occasionally make a special trip to Loop in Islington which probably takes me as long as a 20 mile car journey.

Totally reasonable. Loving the charity yarn adoption scheme and may well need to drag DCs into some charity shops over Easter now. Also, what's Woolfest?

Chottie · 01/04/2015 17:04

20 miles round trip to buy some wool? that's practically local, I'm just surprised you had to ask! :)

Chottie · 01/04/2015 17:06

Miele my local wool shop has coffee and cake with an honesty box for charity. It's lovely to sit and knit and drink coffee surrounded by gorgeous wool.

SaltaKatten · 01/04/2015 17:06

I can highly recommend a spinning wheel and you can then make your own custom made wool! Even weird ones with beehives and whatnots! I've just finished spinning a blend of alpaca and silk which I dyed in lots of blues and purples and then wove into a shawl! Of course, rather than lusting after yarn now, I lust after fleece. I have a room full of the stuff and now need to spin lots and lots so I can justify buying more come shearing.
