Married to him 10 years so if I say it "all the time" like he says, then he'd be used to it by now right? Ok here's how the convo went .. (So you can get it into context)

Me "that rug in our office has been there stinking the place out with someone elses dog piss - we have our own pets to clean up after without adding to it!"

(He's a carpet cleaner. He has stored a rug for a customer in our office that her dog pissedurinated on and it's been there over a month - uncleaned)

Him "don't swear!! I find it really offensive when you say that! - it's not necessary!!"
Me "I only said "PISS" ??!!

Him "you say it all the time!! It's disgusting!"

I'm 42 years Young with 4 kids -8 guineapigs a dog 2 cats and 2 rabbits I have earned my right to say piss and fuck and twat I think my freedom of speech is being denied!? He's always been the same about me swearing - it's like living in the pissing dark ages!!!

Ps kids were not around listening!

I'd be a child about it and say 'well, piss off then' and leave the room, because I am a grown up and thats what we do.

I do hate it when other adults get really precious about swearing though, its just a word, don't let it offend you if you don't want to be offended.

seriouslypeedoff · 30/03/2015 17:51

I feel a bit sorry for your dh. Only because I have a hatred of the word turd! No idea why, shit is fine...turd turns my stomach.

HellKitty · 30/03/2015 17:55

Invite him around to ours for tea, he'll soon realise what a lady you are in comparison.

gimmecake · 30/03/2015 18:06

??????

The rug is here for it's second clean in as many months - the lady has a terrier that just loves to piss on it... I don't think she wants it back she hasn't been in touch ... to be honest I'd get rid of the darn thing (rug not terrier .. I think...?)

My partner has said I have been swearing more since mumsnet.

EveBoswell · 30/03/2015 18:20

It's not really ladylike to swear, is it? Do you swear in front of your children? If you don't, why swear at all?

geekymommy · 30/03/2015 18:27

Don't ever let him ride in a car that I am driving. My potty mouth would probably make him crumble into dust.

I try not to swear in front of DD, but I don't always succeed. I think adults who are really offended by really mild swearing (not aimed at them) need to get over it, though. It would be different if you had called him a bunch of nasty obscene names, but that's not what happened.

GamoraStarlord · 30/03/2015 19:11

My fiance and I just spent a few minutes laughing at this thread. I left the room for a second and when I came back in he had dictionary in hand and was saying ' fuck is in there too'. He has just paused, looked at me very seriously and then said ' I am 38 years old and looking up swear words in the dictionary.' God I love him

gimmecake · 30/03/2015 19:12

Because EveBoswell I didn't leave my personality in the delivery suite when I had my kids - I don't swear in front of them no... But in the context of what I was saying I think the word piss was very appealing to me.. I used it to get a reaction - and I did! Just not the one I wanted which was to get rid of the goddamn pissing rug!! Sad

gimmecake · 30/03/2015 19:14

Fuck is in the dictionary??!!! OMG and I let my kids read it!! Shocking! Are dictionar allowed in schools??? Shock

AlansLeftMoob · 30/03/2015 19:29

Also don't mind the word piss when saying "piss off" or "you're taking the piss" but when it's used for describing urine it makes me feel sick!

elfycat · 30/03/2015 19:37

I did say the 'in the dictionary' rule should be used with care because of some of the other words. Most swear and a lot of slang makes it in. Grin

Burke1 · 30/03/2015 19:54

I have to admit at being really shocked and disappointed at some of the advice being given. This man is the person the OP is in a loving committed relationship with, and you are telling her to deliberately do stuff to upset/offend him? Why on earth would you do that to anyone, especially the person you perhaps love more than anyone else in the world?

Slowtrain2dawn · 30/03/2015 20:12

Well Burke, he is being a bit precious, and I think it's quite light hearted. I'm sure OP will not follow MN instructions blindly.
OP is also welcome to tell us all to piss off.

Nikkinoo77 · 30/03/2015 20:20

I swear far too much, quite often get a bollocking for it from OH.
But I agree I would never say I'm going for a piss but frequently use the phrase piss off.
Do hate the word cunt though much prefer twunt!

Burke1 · 30/03/2015 20:21

He might be but aren't relationships about compromise and dialogue when you have disagreements? You might not mind something, but if your partner does shouldn't you at least discuss it.

The advice people were given made it seem that they were relishing in the idea of deliberately upsetting and offending him. It just seems strange that you would want to do that to the person you love perhaps more than any other person.

elfycat · 30/03/2015 20:26

Burke1 The OP is in a loving committed relationship with a man who keep Dog Pissed Rugs in her house.

I don't think anything we're suggesting is more offensive than that...

Gruntfuttock · 30/03/2015 20:28

SabrinaTheTeenageWitch "Calling someone a cock = amusing. Using the word cock to describe a willy = ugh."

I think willy is a ridiculous childish word and have never used it, so cock is preferable by far, but in the unlikely event I'd need to refer to it at all, I'd just say penis.

My husband doesn't swear and sometimes winces a bit if I do, but I certainly wouldn't go to the other extreme and say more and worse swear words just because he doesn't like it.

DecaffTastesWeird · 30/03/2015 20:30

Nikki twunt is funny! I hadn't heard it before.

CSIJanner · 30/03/2015 20:30

Personally I find keeping a piss soaked rug in a shared office for more than a month more offensive than saying piss.

DecaffTastesWeird · 30/03/2015 20:32

Fwiw I swear a bit. DH is about as bad.

nokidshere · 30/03/2015 20:43

I don't swear much but others doing it doesn't bother me at all, but I also hate the word piss. It's especially revolting when said by children when they are going to the loo! Personally I would prefer them going for a wee rather than a pee or a piss!

DecaffTastesWeird · 30/03/2015 20:46

Said by children..? Confused
