To think that this lady should not let her child poo in the play area?

Have come back from the local park today, there is a fenced off play area within a bigger open park. Whilst there, my 6 yr old pointed out that behind us (a stone seated area next to a fence with some shrubs ) a child about 4 yrs old had intentionally done a poo on the floor whilst her mother was with her. Her mother / carer then came back with a nappy bag and picked it up.....then put it in the litter bin within the play area. I was not impressed...kids run round the back of the stone seating area all the time and there are public toilets by the cafe, a 2 minute walk away.
My AIBU relates to 1) letting her poo there in the first place rather than going to the toilets or using an area outside the play park bit and 2) disposing it in the litter bin as opposed to the dog poo bins outside the area.
I have DC so am aware of the often desperate need to go....but really AIBU?

4 year old seems a bit old and if there are toilets 2 minutes away they probably could have gone there, but i don't see an issue with the litter bin

I have had to sit my 3yo in a plastic bag when she told me she needed a poo, but moved behind a litter bin and fortunately, to use her words "poopoo didn't come" Grin

But in my case there isn't a nearby cafe/toilet in the park, just a pub which i guess we could go to in an emergency...

How close were the loos?

BooRadders · 30/03/2015 15:21

Literally 2 mins away

Lazy and unhygienic imo

Box5883284322679964228 · 30/03/2015 15:23

Yep lazy

rockinrobintweet · 30/03/2015 15:25

I think if the child was 4 then the parent seems slightly unreasonable if the toilets were so close. I have however taken a potty to play area when toilet training my eldest and she's done her deed and then ive bagged or binned accordingly- do you think the child could have been toilet training?

was there a dog poo bin nearby? if so the mother was being unreasonable and perhaps slightly lazy.

Chips1999 · 30/03/2015 15:25

I'm glad that you said she binned the poo! DS is only 3 years old and I'm sure that he could hold on until we got to the toilets 2 minutes away, but with children they don't always give you much warning...

rockinrobintweet · 30/03/2015 15:25

to make it clear though, dd was around 20 months old when toilet training rather than 4yrs old!!

Scrounger · 30/03/2015 15:27

As the toilet was so close she should have used it, I'm hoping that the child just didn't ask and took her unawares and she dealt with it as best as she could. Otherwise it's a bit rank.

Discounted · 30/03/2015 15:27

It seems to be usual to put nappies in litter bins at the park, so how would this be different, if it was all bagged up?

As always with these posts, you have no idea what's going on in their lives. I'd have been delighted if DS2 had gone to the corner to do it at that age rather than on the slide...

manchestermummy · 30/03/2015 15:28

Lazy? There was a little boy of four in my dd's nursery class for a time who would go to the toilet in all sorts of places, without morning. On of the other mums, who had significant experience of working with children with various difficulties, said without a doubt this little boy had problems.

At least the parent bagged it and disposed of it, and probably didn't feel like explaining the situation.

manchestermummy · 30/03/2015 15:28

Without warning, not morning.

BooRadders · 30/03/2015 15:29

One of my AIBU relates to the use of the litter bin for it.....if it is ok to put human poo in, why are there dog poo bins as well as litter bins outside the play area?

It depends how Late the 4 year old began potty training, the child çoukd be younger, ds is just 3 is potty trainingand looks about 4/4.5 years. Mabey he çoukd not hold on, sometimes kids leave it too late. At leAst she picked it op and disposed of it.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/03/2015 15:35

Yes she çoukd have disposed of it in the dog poo bin.

HighwayDragon · 30/03/2015 15:36

Dd did a poo in a park age 3, I literally took my eyes off her for 30 seconds, turn round and she's squating by a tree doing a shit Blush I had to ask a dog walker for a poo bag.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/03/2015 15:38

Dd 4.5 at the time, ran into a bush where she has a runny accident, I had no Wipes, water, no loos as it was far from home, I just had to leave it, and take her home straight away

hazeyjane · 30/03/2015 15:38

Quite a lot of councils are getting rid of dog poo bins, as people seem to think that it is better to leave a dog poo in a bag on a bench, or next to a normal bin, if there are no dog bins nearby. Our local council has signs up saying. 'Please dispose of your bagged dog mess in ANY bin'

lottieandmias · 30/03/2015 15:39

YANBU - I completely disagree with teaching children to wee and poo anywhere but a bathroom except in exceptional circumstances. My parents seemed to encourage it and are amazed when they discover my children refuse to do it anywhere but a loo.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/03/2015 15:40

That is the only time she soiled outside. Sometimes with young children, accidents happen. The child may have not told her mum, pulled her pants down and went in situ.

hazeyjane · 30/03/2015 15:40

Dd2 had a pee in a park when she was about 5, behind a tree, I was mortified when she suddenly said, 'mummy, I may have done a tiny poo as well' (pointing to something the size of a housebrick)Blush

lottieandmias · 30/03/2015 15:41

If the child had SEN then that is different entirely but otherwise no excuse really if a loo is so close by.

Totality22 · 30/03/2015 15:43

I'd give her the benefit of the doubt in this instance.

I cannot accept I live in a world where people actually think it's acceptable to let a 4 year old shit on the floor unless it was a complete emergency and there was nothing else they could do

zazzie · 30/03/2015 15:43

You don't know how toilet trained the child was.

lottieandmias · 30/03/2015 15:46

When mine were little though and weren't toilet trained well enough for an outing I would put a pull up on rather than risk them doing it on the floor in front of people.
