A free IPad for every single member of parliament, isn't it good when we can give ourselves freebies like this. I wouldn't mind but they'll more than likely already have one.

Sorry to digress but I also read there's another expenses scandal looming as well. 46 MPs are claiming expenses for London hotels despite the fact they own properties in the capital. They'd bought the properties with the help of tax payers under the previous expenses system which allowed them to claim back morgage repayments. When this practice was banned following the big scandal they let out these properties for up to £3.000 a month, so now because their homes are let out they're claiming for rent and hotels in London.
Talk about having your cake and eating it.

Even reading the Express article (hardly the best source), it's clear that the MPs' kit is part of the hardware refresh (haven't been able to find full details though), and the cost is over 5 years.

Most organisations refresh their hardware in one go - cheaper and more stable than having different devices all on the go at once.

And the cost and environmental savings in not having to print off 600-odd copies of the vast number of publications MPs receive must be pretty significant.

Honestly? Can't get worked up about people at work being given IT to do their jobs.

Don't think you are sorry.

Springtulip · 29/03/2015 14:08

Nothing but the best for our upstanding MPs of course.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 29/03/2015 14:09

The expenses issue concerns me. MPs being issued with technology to do their job doesn't.

ilovesooty · 29/03/2015 14:11

Oh I see. It's not about the actual issue, but more about your distaste for MPs.

Springtulip · 29/03/2015 14:14

The expenses problem is a totally separate issue. Yes, it's bad, but it has nothing to do with people being given the IT tools to enable them to do their jobs.
Separate issue yes, but while we're talking about MPs let's not ignore it. It's outrageous. They are stealing from the taxpayer.

OP posts:
Springtulip · 29/03/2015 14:15

Shouldn't everyone find it distasteful Sooty

OP posts:
Springtulip · 29/03/2015 14:18

i bet there'll be lots of gaming going on with their lovely new iPads.

OP posts:
Springtulip · 29/03/2015 14:22

There are many good MPs but I haven't forgotten the expenses scandal. The greed and hypocrisy of those that were involved was obscene. So no I don't have too much respect for a lot of them.

I'd want monitoring software that records each month the apps used and publishes it automatically. That happens for businesses for the bosses to see, as we the tax players are their bosses it should be public. Bet most of them would use it to play games. Just give a lightweight laptop, no tablet as it as limited business use.

ilovesooty · 29/03/2015 14:25

I find the dishonest claiming of expenses distasteful but not the office itself which you appear to do.

Springtulip · 29/03/2015 14:27

I think it deserves a far stronger word than distasteful tbh.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 29/03/2015 14:29

Ok I get that and would agree. But do you have a problem with the office itself? Your posts suggest that you do.

Springtulip · 29/03/2015 14:32

An IPad Air is not necessary as well as the lap top. There's going to be a lot more candy crush getting played this year. (this is what some of them have been caught doing apparently)

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 29/03/2015 14:38

I seem to remember one MP accused of playing Candy Crush.
How do you know what's necessary? You're not intimately acquainted with their day to day working practices. You're just coming across as childishly jealous because they have expensive equipment. That really isn't helping your argument.

Springtulip · 29/03/2015 14:43

I have one myself, I paid for it, not the taxpayer. Bit childish to say jealous of MPs because of their equipment. Funny though. Grin

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 29/03/2015 14:46

So you do have a problem with the office itself.
You don't know about their day to day working practices.
Nothing to stop you getting involved in politics if you think you could do it better.

Wow it sounds like Dave Cameron has nothing to fear if everyone's as loyal as you lot. Hope you all turn up to vote, the one who don't must be jealous, after all it's the only reason why you find politicians distastful.
Another big "expenses scandal", but that doesn't matter, let's not talk about that. It only counts as fraud if it's someone who's done a bit of work on the side and not informed the job center. The hypocrisy of MPs who tell us all to shop a benefit cheat while they go on to defraud by hundreds of grands disgusts me. Bur obviously not you lot.

Shoo, Springtulip, funner to stir on Facebook, isn't it?

Springtulip · 29/03/2015 15:03

They will not be handing them back actually, they are theirs to keep.

Sorry ragged?

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 29/03/2015 15:07

But you didn't start a thread about the expenses scandal did you? And why drag benefits into it? You do sound very angry though, and I suspect on a wider level than ipads.
