To not want a bigger TV?

HellKitty · 29/03/2015 09:08

We have a 50".
He wants a 60 or 65 inch - I forget.
He thinks we're going to Currys today. His friend has 'kindly' offered to take the 'diddy' TV off us. Eh?!

So please persuade me this is a great idea or help me with excuses as I'm stuck.

He's not EA or controlling or anything, he just wants a bigger telly! He's even tried telling me that my 'Great British Bore-off' and 'Great British sewing shite' (his words) would look much better.

Spermy you are right or maybe a picture. I don't like that black screen.

Assuming you live in a 'normal' sized house the frankly even a 50 inch is probably way too big.
My in laws live in a normal 3 bed semi and have a 50 and it looks absolutely ridiculous in their living room - it dominates the room and when you watch it you just feel a br queasy as you are far too close!

We have a 50 in our living room but we have a huge house and suitably huge lounge so can sit at the correct viewing distance from it (ok stealth boast - so shoot me!).

We don't have a huge house/living room.
However, our 48 inch is still considered the correct size. It is to do with distance from your sofa.
I suppose the size of the room/house means nothing! Grin

My MIL gave us her old TV, bigger than the one we had before and I didn't notice that DH had swapped it when I was out at work. DC were delighted as I'd always said the one we had was big enough and I didn't want a larger one. Buggers.

You can get TV's which are mirrors when not in use. Would love one of them

When we had an extension built a few years back, I got really irritated by the builder who kept telling me, "What you want is..." (a 60" telly on that wall).

Er no, I really don't. We got a 32", and didn't put it on the wall, much to his annoyance/despair.

I think what gets me is the number of people who seem to think that the larger the TV, the better/posher/more successful one is. Personally, I can think of nothing worse.

We have a few huge televisions, I very aware that this makes me common/ thick and am quite content with that. If I ever forget that I am thick/common I can always rely on MN to remind me.

phil yep. Grin

He's on his way to pick up the works van to cart it home.

So, your actual opinion didn't matter in the end anyway. Cool.

crazykat · 30/03/2015 09:39

I'd love a bigger tv, we have a 47" but I'd love to get a 55" if we could afford it. I'm short sighted but hate wearing glasses all the time so a bigger tv would mean I can see it better, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it Grin.

I don't care if people think big tvs are common if I want one and can afford it then I'll get one.

HellKitty · 30/03/2015 11:19

Alternative. No, my opinion does matter, I was on the fence.

We're as common as owt so what my neighbours, the local vicar on a bicycle or the PTA think of me for having a huge TV means not a jot!

Anyway, update, it's in. It's 65" and isn't as hugely different as I expected although it is weird seeing people's heads bigger than my body. It is on offer in Currys at the moment and was literally being snapped up yesterday. I'm happy, even if I had to ask the DCs how to turn the ps4 on so I can watch a dvd. The shame, and I used to be a gamer.

Oh and it only just got into the back of the work's van Shock

I really don't get the giant telly thing.

I have 2 TVs - a 14 inch and 32 inch. Both are still old school CRTs, which my friends take the piss out of mercilessly.

I do watch TV, a lot actually. Too much. But I get no greater joy watching it on a huge screen. I'll replace the CRTs when they die - probably with second hand CRTs as they're so cheap on eBay!
