To be really pissed off?!

We went to my MIL house the other day for a cup of tea and to see their new puppy. I was sitting on the sofa and the dog kept on jumping on me, I made it clear I wasn't impressed. They told him off but didn't really bother to much. Then he jumped up again and bit a hole in my brand new tights. The little shit! My MIL saw it happen and told him off, she saw I was annoyed and said " oh where they expensive" to which I said, actually yes!
But then that was it, it wasn't mentioned again. AIBU to be pissed off about this?

Get dh to ask mil to replace your tights - give him the name of the brand, the colour and the size, and the shop they come from, don't mention the price and hope that she goes to buy them - then when she complains, you can explain that of course you're expecting her to buy you a new pair when you've spent that much on tights and the puppy ruined them.

I'd be really annoyed too!

WorraLiberty · 28/03/2015 23:29

Am I the only one on mumsnet who buys one pair of nice tights a year? Surely not?

I don't know, but you're probably the only one daft enough to wear them to visit a puppy Grin

I don't think tights wash particularly well no matter how much they cost so I'm strictly a 'wear once and bin them' kind of woman.

HoneySwampDragonInMourning · 28/03/2015 23:32

I had a sofa. Then I had a puppy. Then I had a selection of firewood, leather confetti and a puppy.

If you came to see my puppy in naice tights and clothes it would be from the front garden Grin I'd give you tea and let you look through the window. Or offer you overalls.

TheWitTank · 28/03/2015 23:35

FML £35 for a pair of tights? Madness I tells you! I thought I was being outrageous when I spent a tenner on some thermal ones.
Anyway, I wouldn't have worn anything particularly precious while visiting a new puppy (I've had plenty so know I'm going to get slobbered/hairy/pawed/mouthed) but you didn't know so fair enough. I personally wouldn't ask for replacement, but it's up to you. Next time the puppy is jumping all over you, don't shout to dissuade, stand up and turn your back. Do not give eye contact or touch the puppy. If it comes around to your front again, turn around. Repeat until it loses interest and then sit down again. Calmness = attention.

keepsmiling2015 · 28/03/2015 23:38

You went to see a puppy and wore tights.....

strawberrydaquari · 28/03/2015 23:40

Same worra, cheap pack of tescos own worn then thrown. I don't wear tights often though.
I cannot imagine spending that amount on them, and if I did they would be kept for special occasions (not including sc or puppies)

Alisvolatpropiis · 28/03/2015 23:42

Op I bought a couple of pairs of 200 denier black tights from H+M for £5 3 years ago. Still wear them. Neither of my dogs have managed to do them damage.

WayfaringStranger · 28/03/2015 23:44

£35 on tights?! Fuck me and I thought I was pushing the boat out by paying a tenner for some shiny black ones from M&S!

susiedaisy · 29/03/2015 13:46

Op I know you said you weren't from the UK. Do you realise that £35 on tights is astronomical. They can be purchased for much much less. Wink

PurpleSwift · 29/03/2015 13:54

You went to see a puppy. A puppy. It's your responsibility to dress appropriately and YABU.

BoyFromTheBigBadCity · 29/03/2015 14:06

OP I actually do have some sympathy. I went to visit a friends puppy, and left with my phone charger completely destroyed, my hat completely destroyed, my jeans chewed through the hem and my shoes chewed. Not a single apology, or offer to do anything about it. Yes, puppies are puppies but it's still annoying that my stuff is broken beyond repair and is now unusable (except the jeans, I'm a scruff in jeans).

I once had my sunglasses trashed by a friends baby and also didn't get an apology. It is annoying, even if natural behaviour for the baby/puppy.

Humansatnav · 29/03/2015 14:22

Boyfrom, that is entirely your own fault. You should have made sure your items were in a place the puppy couldn't reach.
Op YABU.

Costacoffeeplease · 29/03/2015 14:34

boy did you, or the puppy's owner not notice all this destruction going on?? Weird!

Op, did you think going round to see a puppy meant it would be on display in a glass box? Anyway, it's spring now so your tights have done their autumn/winter duty - only problem now is seeing the puppy with bare legs in summer Shock

LokiPokey · 29/03/2015 14:37

YANBU to be annoyed however YABU to wear fancy, delicate clothing to see a puppy and expect them to come out unscathed.

Seriously though, £35! Shock

GrinchAnInch · 29/03/2015 15:29

My puppy pissed on my bed this morning, I was very cross but luckily it was only a little bit and didn't soak through. I think I called her a little shit Grin but I have forgiven her now. Oh and before anyone starts about letting dogs on the bed, I didn't it was my son who let her up. Op £35 on tights Shock YABU to wear expensive clothing when visiting a puppy. Didn't you know how excitable a puppy is especially when there's new people about ?
