Rebecca from Bbeebies is far too thin, no?

I have no idea if she is intentionally that skinny or whether it's natural (i suspect not) but to me she just looks emaciated and it bothers me that my children will think that she is a normal shape for a grown woman. She looks pale and tired and her head looks disproportionately large. Not a great role model.

OP posts:

Another person here who has had many people over the years feel it s aomehow their place to comment on my weight as a negative thing (im a size 8) Yet i have had the same people be incredibly shocked and appalled when ive made the same Comments at them, but relating to their over
Weight-ness.

Personally i think it is far better for children to see a normal
Healthy size 8/10
On 10 and think it normal than fatness

Northernlurker · 24/03/2015 21:10

I wasn't aware of this person till this thread. Having googled her and looked at her webpage my personal view is that there are aspects of her appearance that might be cause for concern. Or it could be her natural body type and shape and for that reason I won't be saying what exactly I have noticed.
I do think though that it does us no harm at all to recognise the problems being too thin can cause. It's very difficult for people to talk about their disordered eating of any type. Uniformly pretending thin is FINE whatever your body type or eating pattern helps nobody.

CalleighDoodle · 24/03/2015 21:13

So have we now established she has an eating disorder?!

Notrevealingmyidentity · 24/03/2015 21:27

Um no ?

DoJo · 24/03/2015 21:55

I do think though that it does us no harm at all to recognise the problems being too thin can cause.

But not by singling out someone on television and deciding that she is 'too' thin just by looking at her! As part of a dialogue about what 'healthy' can look like at both ends of the spectrum, certainly, but that's not what the OP was suggesting.

Have you seen her show reel? I can't link on here. Its casting call pro.com. In the first clip she is very sweary. It always seems a bit shocking to hear a children's presenter swear! There's a really sweet clip with a man trying to persuade her to kiss him, but she says "it would be out of character". Re her weight, I haven't seen Cbeebies for a while. She always struck me as very slim and attractive and I'd love her figure!"

BaronessBomburst · 25/03/2015 14:03

Does anyone on here eat fruit or vegetables during the day, or only with the evening meal? One poster mentioned a banana for second breakfast, but that was it.

goodasitgets · 25/03/2015 14:19

How do you have the head space to think about it?! I sit with people who constantly comment on whatever programme oh she is thin/fat/ugly/has a big nose/funny teeth
I don't even notice this stuff

mommabear12 · 25/03/2015 14:22

If you think she's skinny you should see DipDap! Terrible role model! Mind you he hasn't got a mouth so eating must be a tad challenging! Grin

AmysTiara · 25/03/2015 14:32

She does look very thin but it's odd the ops niece is commenting on her size. Surely most 8 year olds don't still watch cbeebies or look at the figures of the presenters

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/03/2015 15:31

Her job is to be a presenter. - its nobody's business what size she is. I can't believe people feel free to comment on other peoples weight.

xiaozhu · 25/03/2015 17:03

Wow there are some bitchy comments on here! I, for one, think she looks great and suspect that a lot of the nastiness on this thread is down to envy. When it comes down to it, wouldn't a lot of you love to look like her?

I'm 5'4", weigh about 8.5 stone. That's because I eat healthy food in moderation and remain active. My mum and my maternal grandmother are both exactly the same. In fact when my grandmother was young, she was considered to be an average size but of course nowadays it is considered 'normal' to be a size 16 to 18 at that height. It may be normal, but it sure isn't healthy.

Eating disorders are a terrible thing, but they are much more likely to be caused by women setting bad examples to children by being obsessive about other women's appearances, and judging, comparing, commenting all the time, than by having kids' TV programs presented by a slim woman.

PtolemysNeedle · 25/03/2015 17:49

I haven't seen what she looks like, and I'm trying to resist googling her because I think it's irrelevant. Maybe she does look very think maybe she has been ill or is suffering from an eating disorder, none of those things mean she should be barred from doing a job she is capable of doing.

I thought we were supposed to encourage diversity on children's television, and as plenty of people are naturally very thin, then the person on the telly isn't the actual problem here.

takemeuptheeiffeltower · 25/03/2015 18:03

So now every woman that's slim has an eating disorder? Shock
It's all utter bullshit.
Things have become so distorted than overweight people are now seen as the norm.
We live in disturbing times. Maybe we should tax unhealthy food.

CuppaSarah · 25/03/2015 18:24

She always has struck me as being naturally very slim. But she always looked healthy slim and lovely. But she has started looking very very thin and pale last time i saw her in the cbeebies house. I wondered could she have been getting over an illness? She looks same as always in the new let's play series. So maybe she had been vomming her guts out on the loo for a week before hand? She didn't look to well to be honest

ClockWatchingLady · 25/03/2015 18:27

I think she looks great, too. Would probably be better to have a bigger range of sizes, albeit without normalising either emaciation or obesity, but they all look fairly healthy to me.

I have far more of an issue with the fact that female TV presenters (including kids' ones) are all so pretty. Smiley, youthful, symmetrical, doe-eyed bunch. It's a rubbishly uniform demographic for kids to be exposed to. I think they should be interviewed/auditioned in the dark so we get more of a cross-section of different faces.

ClockWatchingLady · 25/03/2015 18:31

I agree with xiaozhu, too.

Just focusing on things other than - and not selecting women so much on the basis of - looks is the important thing. "She's too thin" and "she's not thin enough" are not so different really.

ChoochiWhoo · 25/03/2015 18:32

She looks raky because shes tall, if they were to show 'normal women' you'd have a few sixe 16s on there which lets face it ..wont happen

Sleepyfergus · 25/03/2015 21:01

I have to say, I've always though she was very slim, but I have noticed that she's become what I would term 'thin' as opposed to slim now. I did wonder if he had been ill as there seemed to be a significant weight loss.

Part of me is just jealous mind you, in my mind I look like her (ie. Me about 20 years ago) rather than the rather sad, tired and baggy thing that I am!

MarkingMyPlace9 · 26/03/2015 12:18

Just watching CBeebies Birthday Card bit with her in it now. I don't think She looks any different than in the new Lets Play. I think She has a lovely figure and wish mine was more like Hers! The Red Dress She is wearing is very tight (Not in a bad way though) So maybe it's just that is showing off Her slimness more?

Granny murray! Noo those are dark days indeed ...oh and theyll hire a forriner' before a woman with a broad northern accent Hmm

mommabear12 · 27/03/2015 04:45

Ha ha Miaow - would love them to say that!!!

TRexingInAsda · 27/03/2015 08:58

NO. This thread is terrible body shaming, OP.

She is normal. And even if she wasn't it'd be none of your business, leave her alone. The person who said 'she's 4lbs underweight so not normal at all' get a bloody grip. Can you imagine saying that about someone who's 4lbs overweight? Do you think Justin might be 4lbs overweight? Do you have any grave concerns about this, no? Because he's a man, and only women have to conform to such exacting ideals? Or because overweight is fine but underweight is a 'get her off the telly' offence? I cannot understand the mentality. But I'd like to invite the body shamers to get a bloody grip, and leave out the public criticism.
