Rebecca from Bbeebies is far too thin, no?

I have no idea if she is intentionally that skinny or whether it's natural (i suspect not) but to me she just looks emaciated and it bothers me that my children will think that she is a normal shape for a grown woman. She looks pale and tired and her head looks disproportionately large. Not a great role model.

little I know girls and boys with eating disorders too both personally and professionally.

I am afraid you can spout on all you like about how you will try to convince your dds and dss that it's ok to be the shape you are as long as you are happy and healthy but unfortunately just like the mumsnet love of boys in frocks being a fat teen is fucking hard.

RL is tough not a chik lit.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 24/03/2015 18:32

You're right minty it doesn't prove anything. Not it's own. But I was just trying to give an example that for me is average in relation to my eating.

Still doesn't prove anything as you'd have to take my word for it.

stopgap · 24/03/2015 18:32

I think her arms are very thin. I am 5'7.5 and used to be 8 stone, but I was running marathons and such at the time. Closer to 40, I'm now 9 stone and think I look "right" at that weight: still slim, but with more muscular arms and a rounded face.

In the Google-able pictures, the presenter has a healthy face. Could be artificial, of course, but the face is usually a dead giveaway as to whether someone has an eating disorder.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 24/03/2015 18:33

We could discuss them in general without speculating about people we don't know in regard to their health ?

You could discuss celebrities that have talked about their own eating disorders ?

binspin · 24/03/2015 18:34

I'm naturally skinny. Should I stay indoors so I don't give young girls a bad impression op?

What body shape is most suitable for tv in your opinion op?

chickydoo · 24/03/2015 18:34

She is 7 stone 10lbs & 5 foot 5 ins
When I got married I weighed the same but am 2 inches taller
Give the poor girl a break she looks great!

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 24/03/2015 18:36

It makes me very uncomfortable that so many Mumsnetters are determined to insist that no slim presenters/actresses/celebrities are suffering from eating disorders.

Who said that none of them have eating disorders?

Funnily enough, I find it uncomfortable that so many people only ever seem to focus on slim people when it comes to eating disorders. Do people think that only slim people suffer from eating disorders?

Most people with bulimia aren't actually thin and tend to be a healthy weight. It's also not unheard of for people with bulimia to even be overweight.

Yet you never hear people speculating if Adele might have bulimia just because she's overweight, do you? You never hear people wondering if Kate Winslet might be bulimic because she's a healthy weight. Yet there are plenty of people who have bulimia who are the same size as them.

If eating disorders really are rife in television and film then surely every celebrity should be held under scrutiny, no? Yet funnily enough it's just the thin ones that get slated and expected to justify themselves even though the celebrities appear to be a healthy weight or overweight are just as likely to have eating disorders as the thin ones.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 24/03/2015 18:38

That should be that appear to be a healthy weight.

Pyjamasandwine · 24/03/2015 18:40

Watching your weight and having a mental illness are two totally different things.

Like enjoying a drink and being a drunk.

It's speculative and so rude and to make this presenter is disgusting. I hope the thread gets pulled.

skislope · 24/03/2015 18:41

I haven't read all the messages on here but I don't think she is worryingly thin from the photos I've seen online - at all!?? never thought this from watching cbeebies either. normal!!! After reading the depressing Poldark thread today in Telly Addicts, with mumsnetters making horrible comments about the actress who plays Demelza's breast size, I despair. I have 3 year old daughter. god help her if she's naturally thin or small boobed Hmm getting more like the femail section of the Daily Mail here everyday, how ironic given so many say they hate it!!!!

Cantbelievethisishappening · 24/03/2015 18:41

Would you offer the same level of scrutiny and judgement on here if she was overweight? (granted I haven't read the whole thread to this may have been mentioned already)

I suppose it's more socially acceptable to criticise/judge/comment on thin people isn't it. Hmm

ChristyMooreRocks · 24/03/2015 18:41

So what if she is 4lbs underweight? If she was 4lbs overweight no one would be saying 'ILLNESS! EATING DISORDER!' Would they?

It's funny this thread has come up actually as just yesterday I was thinking how 'average' all of the Cbeebies presenters are, in terms of weight, looks etc. none of them are mingers but none of them are stunners either, they are all just 'nice'. I wonder if one of the criteria for the job is to look very generic.

Honsandrevels · 24/03/2015 18:42

I really like her and think she's v bouncy and funny but in the recent links she looks super tiny.
I'm surprised how many people don't think she looks underweight. My BMI is under 20 but she looks much smaller than I do.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/03/2015 18:44

It makes me really uncomfortable that so many MNetters seem to think every slim person in the public eye has an eating disorder.

I just know that as soon as Kate has her baby there will be thread upon thread saying she is too thin, looks gaunt, unwell, yadda, yadda, yadda, just like there was after she had George. People can't seem to accept that some of us are slim and healthy.

Notrevealingmyidentity · 24/03/2015 18:45

There would never ever be this sort of talk about a woman 4lbs overweight.

Amummyatlast · 24/03/2015 18:46

If she's 7st 10 and 5 ft 5, then she's exactly the same weight/height than me and I'm bigger than I used to be post-baby. It is normal for me to be this size.

Today I had:
A bowl of readybrek
A banana and a bowl of natural yoghurt (I always have second breakfast)
A small slice of chocolate cake
A packet of prawn cocktail crisps
A chicken sandwich and a babybel
3 mini chocolates
Home-made moussaka (well, to be eaten)
4 cups of tea with milk
Water

I can't eat 3 courses either; in fact I usually only have one. This, combined with my size, can lead people to speculate that I must be anorexic. But I just can't fit that much food in in one sitting. I have to spread my meals throughout the day. (And no, not snacking doesn't mean I can fit 2/3 courses in. It just means I lose weight, which I can't afford to do.)

DoJo · 24/03/2015 19:01

How can we discuss the very scary and serious illnesses that eating disorders are?

I think not 'accusing' people of having an eating disorder just based on their looks would be a good start. Saying someone is 'too thin' to be healthy, unless you are privy to their complete medical records, is a pointless and damaging thing to say, just as it's inaccurate to say that someone who appears overweight cannot be healthy. There is plenty of room for a number of different body types to be healthy, and that should be the primary lesson - you can't judge someone's health from their appearance, nor should you, and being healthy should be the goal, rather than looking a particular way.

Jealous of all you posters who would struggle to eat 3 courses, I struggle to stop at 3 course! But I do have a superhuman appetite.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 24/03/2015 20:15

The person upthread who made the comment about Justin was spot on.

Would men be having a discussion about this? Listing everything they had to eat that day?

Thought not.

itsbetterthanabox · 24/03/2015 20:53

I don't know why you care about her body. Childrens tv presenters aren't body role models. They just have their bodies.
I didn't measure my body as a child against Katie hill or angelica bell.
It saddens me how glam they've all got now though. Kids tv presenters used to try and look and be silly and fun but now it's just the men doing that.
