letter home for kale "crisps"

Wtf, dd6 has a letter about the schools healthy lunch box policy after sending in kale crisps (raw, vegan and air dried). They are just kale and sunflower seeds with some BBQ flavours (parprika and tamari). Confused

Grin is this a not so stealth boast?

slightlyglitterstained · 23/03/2015 17:22

Can you cross out the word "crisps" on the packet and write in "air dried vegan salad"?

woowoo22 · 23/03/2015 17:24

Aye very good

ShiningBright · 23/03/2015 17:24

I am probably very biased here, but I think it's a typical example of school facism.

Write a letter asking them to define, in writing, a crisp.

If you want to be less confrontational, just tell them they are not deep fried and what's in them.
My son has been given white bread, baked beans and jelly for a 'healthy' school lunch, ffs.

YANBU.

IfMaybeBut · 23/03/2015 17:24

Is be inclined to return it with some helpful advice about choosing food wisely

f1fan2001 · 23/03/2015 17:24

Send DD6 to school with some non dried kale and a packet of store bought crisps along with a letter asking the school if they can tell the difference?

In a more constructive mode - is there a blanket ban on crisps at the school to make it easier to police ?

ShiningBright · 23/03/2015 17:25

Stealth boast fine by me Smile

I totally agree! And I can believe that was given as a healthy lunch. I'm tempted to get my marker pen out and adjust their patronising letter. I don't usually send in shop bought kale crisps, but they were on offer so bought a few at the weekend.

The other children will have been jealous, and they don't want fighting in the dinner hall.

OneHandFlapping · 23/03/2015 17:42

Tip them out of the bag into another container.

Nobody will know they're "crisps" then, as presumably they look like flakes of bright green.

Canyouforgiveher · 23/03/2015 17:45

Are you sure your child didn't forge the note?

WorraLiberty · 23/03/2015 18:05

Seriously, I have.

That's why I found it so funny Blush

YANBU though. They obviously thought they were normal nice crisps.

meglet · 23/03/2015 18:08

Kale crisps are delicious, the dc's steal them off me.

Pity they're ££££.

AwfulBeryl · 23/03/2015 18:10

How on earth do you make crisps out of kale ?
I can see the process of thinly slicing potatoes and frying baking them etc to make crisps, but how the foofy do you make crips out of kale - which is basically posh cabbage.

Tomodachi · 23/03/2015 18:13

Dice up fresh kale, toss in a bit of oil and salt and roast til crisp. Delicious. Not expensive.

Morelikeguidelines · 23/03/2015 20:53

They sound nice to.me! Where.do you buy them?

GraysAnalogy · 23/03/2015 20:55

YANBU and I'd probably go in and point out how 1. everything in moderation is fine and my child isn't going to become magically obese at a fried kale and 2. how hypocritical they're being
