My ds is currently v into Robin Hood, has created fab Lego scenes, read books, listened to audio CDs etc, and is asking to watch a film of it. He watched Disney one, but wants a "proper version". He's seen the Harry Potter films and The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings. Can anyone recommend an appropriate Robin Hood film for him?

I would say it's far tamer than lotr or hp.

Senecafalls

I remember it but I wasn't born until 1962, maybe it was repeated a lot.

There was also William Tell on a lot, but again made a few years before I was born.

I saw this when I was (a quite sheltered and sensitive)7 or 8. I didn't have a problem with it and yep, the attempted rape went right over my head.

My grandmother on the other hand, was a bit shocked at the kissing scene between Robin and Marion though. Lots of "oooh dear! I'm sure they didn't kiss like that in those days.Hmm

I went to the cinema to watch this when I was 10. It was a PG. However, I found it terrifying and had nightmares for a long time afterwards. The main things that scared me were the realistic scenes at the beginning of people having their hands chopped off, and the later scenes of people being hung. I was interested to see it is rated at a 14+ on common sense media. I wouldn't let my children watch it under the age of 12.

The 8yr old is now 16 so probably OK to watch it, although if he's like my 16 Yr old his interest has changed quite a bit in the past 8.5 years.
