I go to Facebook today and someone has shared this:

"My promise to my kids~I am not your friend..I am your mother. I will stalk you, flip out on you, lecture you, drive you insane, be your worst nightmare and hunt you down like a bloodhound when needed because I LOVE YOU!! When you understand that, I will know you are a responsible adult. You will NEVER find someone who loves, cares and worries about you more than I do!"

Am I the only one who sees this sort of thing and thinks "well that's one way to ensure your kids move out and never visit you again"?

Then there's the nauseating ones about mother's of boys protecting their princes and no other woman's love ever being able to compare etc etc. I start to wonder if anyone thinks for themselves any more!

And it isn't just parenting memes, it's the "if you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best" ones too - why???

Holibobs ... AAARGH! I have a fairly normal ( In the real world ) friend who is addicted to this stupid phrase - it really, really irritates me, but I can't say anything without sounding like a loon ... She also writes Hey-ho and Any-hoo which do my head in as well ( Grits teeth ... )

RandomNPC · 18/03/2015 12:44

I can cope with holibobs. It's the incessant 'x sleeps to...!' crap that annoys me sometimes.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 18/03/2015 12:47

The support our troops ones annoy me. I did unfriend a couple of armchair warriors who posted that kind of thing. My son is a soldier, I don't need to post some mawkish pile of toss to demonstrate my support for him. In fact, if I did he'd think I'd gone a bit bonkers.

AnyoneforTurps · 18/03/2015 12:51

Saskia. Ditto for nurses, teachers and mothers.

GymBum · 18/03/2015 13:08

The person I mentioned earlier has just posted this. Hmm

Cariad a relative of mine posted loads of stuff like that when I was having my miscarriages investigated as they were sure there was a herbal remedy especially as it was woman's health yeah periods and the moon y'all, we're all woo magic. Hmm I had to nicely explain my blood didn't clot too much cause I don't drink enough water!

emmelinelucas · 18/03/2015 13:27

Saskia - I agree, as does my DSS who was in the RAF Regiment.
He says that individuals do heroic things.

My best friend growing up was raised by her mother and they were very poor. They lived in a council house and relied on benefits to suppliment the wages her mother earned in various menial jobs.
Her brother moved to the US and is now a card carrying member of the Republican party. He hates Obama (probably believes he's illuminati) . He is constantly putting up posts about how terrible Obama is and how the welfare system is of the devil etc.
The final straw was when he posted a picture of a food stamp with the message along the lines of , this is what your tax dollars pay for and those darned poor people are stealing it from you.
Quite a few people who knew him when he was younger commented that if it wasn't for welfare he wouldn't have eaten a a child. His sister and mother were mortified and his mother even unfriended him.
I had to block his messages. They mad my blood boil

BertieBotts · 18/03/2015 14:16

I never post on those "Let's see who my real friends are!" statuses.

They still don't unfriend me. I must be special Grin

TurtleRabbitChicken · 18/03/2015 14:41

A lot of herbal "remedies" cause miscarriage too Hmm

Shock gabsdot. How can someone go from the UK to being a teaparty republican.

mathanxiety · 18/03/2015 14:52

Nothing like the zeal of the convert. America can blind people when they first arrive. Generally the second generation gets a bit wiser.

I have been fascinated to discover the political leanings of some people I would never suspect to be interested in drivel from the right wing foamers at the mouth. And one person whom I know for a fact was raised by alcoholic parents and had a thoroughly miserable childhood now posts codswallop about how great it was to have had parents who taught her proper values. Her dad died of cirrhosis and I have seen her mother passed out drunk by 11 am.

mathanxiety · 18/03/2015 14:54

'Teaching children proper values' is Republican-speak for training them to judge and look down their noses at others and cheer for American foreign policy no matter how immoral or misguided it may be.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 18/03/2015 16:03

GymBum - honestly, that looks like the kind of business card you see stuck inside phone boxes in London, or in the back of lads' mags - it just needs an 0900 phone number Grin

GymBum · 18/03/2015 16:20

Another I have just copied and pasted your response to me and replied to her FB post. Grin

Cariad007 · 18/03/2015 16:31

Oh GymBum you have to let us know if she responds!

GymBum · 18/03/2015 16:34

I have 4 likes so far and nothing from the poster.

AnotherGirlsParadise · 18/03/2015 16:49

GymBum HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!! Oh that's made my day!

Now I want to go and create a load of sex work ads using motivational memes...

StrawberryTallCake · 18/03/2015 18:15

GymBum I would have said 'she said from behind her computer screen'

What is with threatening violence anyway? When was that ever made something to be proud of?

GymBum · 18/03/2015 18:52

strawberry I have known said person going on 15years although I haven't seen her in a few years. We worked together.

Her posting this is a complete contradiction. Confused She's just not got it in her.

Still nothing from her following my post.

Libitina · 18/03/2015 21:03

But I wasn't dead at the time

Are you sure?

Wink
Cariad007 · 19/03/2015 17:03

My SIL shared this today. I am so sick of the whole "girls are precious flowers who need to be protected" thing.

Substitute 'kids' with 'wife' and 'mother' with 'husband' and it takes on a whole new level of fucked up.

Madamecastafiore · 21/03/2015 09:18

I particularly hate the ones that urge you to share if you're against child abuse??????

It's a bloody given in my social circle.
