To expect flowers ordered for Mother's Day to have arrived by now?

I do feel Mother's Day is manufactured tripe but I did order my lovely Mum a large bunch of flowers to be delivered today - no sign of them.

I have paid over the odds for these and yes I know it is a busy time for florists but they shouldn't take the order if they can't deliver.

DH ordered his Mum flowers from a different florist and surprise surprise they haven't arrived either

Looks like we are jinxed.

I saw a news article that said Yodel ( who were delivering flowers for M&S) have been unable to complete all of their deliveries
Stated was technical reasons
As an aside, I ordered the Emma Bridgewater jug and flowers from Waitrose and requested delivery Saturday
They were delivered by Yodel just after 5pm yesterday
Believe 9pm is the latest they deliver

Stitchosaurus · 15/03/2015 21:27

Yodel are delivering for Waitrose too, mine were supposed to arrive yesterday, arrived about 3pm today! Technical reasons my arse! Really wish the big companies would stop using them

watchingthedetectives · 15/03/2015 21:35

Neither flowers were ordered from M and S or Waitrose - one from i-florist and one from Selfridges.

Maybe they all use Yodel though

Just annoying- if I had ordered them to arrive tomorrow there was a much better choice available.

That's awful! Demand a full refund and spoil your mum with it Smile

watchingthedetectives · 15/03/2015 22:30

I'll harass them tomorrow and see if I can get a refund

Thanks

I got my mums through Next and they where fine - it's utterly crap when it's for a specific day and they don't manage - demand a refund x

PeaceOfWildThings · 15/03/2015 22:36

Interesting, thank you for this. I ordered from Waitrose too. I'll check to see if they got there tomorrow. I did get a text early this morning to say they would be delivered between 7am and 7pm by Yodel and my heart sank at that name.

mindthegap79 · 15/03/2015 23:18

We ordered my MIL's flowers from Waitrose, to be delivered by the dreaded Yodel. They arrived at 7.15pm. Pretty ridiculous - she tho we'd forgotten Sad

I rang Waitrose to complain and they're refunding half the cost and sending a second bunch tomorrow morning! Not bad, but I really wish they wouldn't use Yodel. It'll put me off ordering from them again.

mindthegap79 · 15/03/2015 23:18

*thought

squoosh · 16/03/2015 00:04

It's always best to buy from a local florist with its own delivery van, rather than a company that uses couriers like Yodel.

Wibblypiglikesbananas · 16/03/2015 00:15

Interflora failed to deliver to MIL today. They're adding a box of chocolates and a note saying it was their error apparently, for when they deliver tomorrow. Not impressed - at all. MIL has just done us a huge favour and now she thinks we haven't bothered with more than a card. Won't be using them again.

missusdaly · 16/03/2015 00:20

YADNBU yeah we all know that couriers will be extra busy on certain days. But days that are pre-determined everybody knows that these days will be extra busy! So the companies shouldn't be taking the orders of they can't handle the orders.

watchingthedetectives · 16/03/2015 06:31

Supposedly prompt email responses from i-florist according to their website but emailed twice and no reply.

Looked at delivery - there is delivery and 'hand delivered' not sure what the difference is but obviously went for the wrong one!

I had the opposite issue. Ordered flowers online for postal delivery on Saturday. Mums came on Thursday and MILs on Friday. Better to be early than late, but was still v surprised.

RugBugs · 16/03/2015 06:49

Yodel have definitely struggled with capacity this weekend. I had a much needed delivery of cat food and litter due on Saturday. I didn't find out it wasn't going to arrive until it was too late to go out and get a decent alternative. We had to break out the emergency tinned food yesterday, much to the disgust of all three cats.

PeaceOfWildThings · 16/03/2015 07:02

@squoosh my mum isn't local to me, and there are not many flower shops nearby. I have tried one very glamorous looking one which has fabulous window displays. They sent a tatty arrangement (fir my dad to criticise any gift it must have been shockingly bad, and he must have felt he didn't want me wasting my money there again.) I tried another place, sent one in its own water (both my parents were at home then but frail and I didnt want to make any work for them) but it wasn't tied properly and so it fell apart the first night, causing damage to a table. So I've given up on small independent florists where my mum is concerned.
Last week was tricky and I didn't get the chance to get on a computer until Friday (I don't use my phone for purchases.)

These large companies used to be reliable and I love that we can have things delivered. I want to support that. However, if they keep cutting corners to make things cheaper, it cheapens the service to the point where no one will use them and the service stops.

Chococroc · 16/03/2015 07:44

I had a nightmare with iflorist, no delivery and then found it impossible to get through to them, and then on the few occasions I did get through I was hung up on. Took over a month in the end to get a refund, hope you have more luck!

JumpingJetFlash · 16/03/2015 07:52

Hope they arrived or that they respond today. I ordered from iflorist on Friday and although they didn't arrive until 6:30, they did arrive (I was fairly convinced they wouldn't tbh)

watchingthedetectives · 16/03/2015 18:05

Just got in from work and phoned DM - no sign of bloody flowers. Emailed i-florist 3 times today - no response. Phone engaged and then voicemail.

Bank say the transaction has gone through who would have guessed but they will challenge it.

chococroc sounds like your experience - never again!

I have just looked at the BBC news website and there is Ann aticle about Yodel and the flower deliveries
Yodel are blaming the companies involved ......
Have a look and see what you think

ShesEverSoFamous · 16/03/2015 20:24

I used i-florist last year for Mothers Day and the flowers finally on the following Tuesday!
I decided to use Next this year, hoping that as I was spending a lot more money they would a lot better and my DM received dead flowers Sad
I'm also jinxed!

watchingthedetectives · 16/03/2015 21:56

I just got an email from i-florist saying they were despatched and would arrive by the 15th of March ?? by time travel or next year

Selfridges ones arrived tonight at least still just a day late

mindthegap79 · 16/03/2015 22:35

Hmm, bloody Waitrose. After promising an apology bunch of flowers for MIL and a 50% refund, no flowers and no refund. She waited in all bloody day.

Qwebec · 16/03/2015 23:05

I'm a florist and you should definitly always order directly at the shop by phone. We used to deal with internet orders via big sites and they were hell every single time. There was always, information missing, demands for flowers we did not have in stock or that were out of season etc and no way to get help when calling the transfer company.

When you call you can ask what do they have and what is freshest, if extra details is needed we can ask, and if there is an issue we can call you back directly and so can you.

BirdInTheRoom · 17/03/2015 06:45

I found iflorist absolutely shocking last year - Mother's Day flowers never turned up at all, and their customer service was nonexistent.

They took two weeks to even respond by email - couldn't get through to them at all. And when they finally emailed they really didn't seem to give a shit - no apology, nothing. Luckily I had already got a refund through PayPal or something by that point.
