Had an actual Shock moment!

In a large home store type place with friends and DCs. Get to end of an aisle and stop as DCs ask to go and look at toys. That's fine we say and just setting some 'ground rules' (reminders of behaviour.)

I see something hanging on end of shelf and exclaim how interesting it is. Then walk on obviously looking ahead where I'm going.

A voice behind me shouts...
"I'll pick up what you've dropped then shall I?"
Confused I look under trolley and say "oh thanks what did I drop?"
"You know exactly what it is I saw you kick it away"
"EH?"
"This item, I saw you drop it on the floor and kick it under shelf" (it's one of the items I'd just pointed out to friend.
"Oh sorry I hadn't noticed I'd knocked one on floor but I certainly didn't kick something"
"I saw you - you deliberately dropped it and kicked it" Hmm
"Well you need to get your attitude checked along with your eyesight, I can accept I accidently knocked something, even walked over it without noticing but that gives you no right to tell me off publically because you've judged a situation incorrectly from afar"

The bloke then had the audacity to tell me I had no right to speak to him like that Shock

The smirk on his OH face when I did made me think he's a twat and very few people stand up to him.

I think I was perfectly justified btw Grin

YANBU, he was a twat. Did you respond to his asking about your audacity?

youarekiddingme · 15/03/2015 20:25

I just smiled sweetly but tbh he was already walking off by this point.

I'm not sure what I would have said tbh. It's easier to do it when your in the situation iyswim?

MumToFourCats I can also remember conversations verbatim, sometimes from several years ago. I can also remember the exact inflections, accents and intonations of phrases (even though I often can't remember the name of the other person).

Where do you get off implying OP is a liar, or troll, or making up stories for amusement? If you think it's fake, report it, or don't bother reading any further.

HicDraconis · 15/03/2015 20:33

youarekiddingme you were perfectly justified and he sounds like an arse.

youarekiddingme · 15/03/2015 20:49

Hic it's a fabulous skill isn't it? My friends use it to their full advantage! I love the idea of people thinking I'm a troll! I've been here 5 years but rarely venture off of MNSN boards except to lurk occasionally!

OP posts:
miniavenger · 15/03/2015 20:49

I think smiling was your best bet, pissed him off with a non reaction :)

Pancakeflipper · 15/03/2015 20:50

PMSL at the accusation the OP invented the conversation.

No offense OP - but if that's your best invented conversation you have a boring imagination.

I got ticked off in our local grocers when I bought a little cabbage. As a fellow customer loudly informed us all, that little veg is for people who live alone and I am only permitted to buy monster size veg as I have a family. I sadly was not quick enough to think of a witty retort. I just open mouthed, as was our lovely grocer.

limitedperiodonly · 15/03/2015 21:00

youarekiddingme If it helps, I can remember stuff very accurately too and I'm glad you started an interesting thread.

HicDraconis · 15/03/2015 21:07

Pancakeflipper made me giggle, thankyou!

youarekiddingme it's great. Means that I always win the "who said what" fights at home, DH knows his memory of conversations is rubbish. Probably because half the time he isn't listening :) even when it's him talking

youarekiddingme · 15/03/2015 21:20

Haha pancake it certainly wouldn't win me any writers guilds! Lol at tiny cabbage and cabbage diameter rules! There really are some weird people about!

My friends favourite part of my memory is being able to memorise conversations we overhear!

OP posts:
rebelfor · 15/03/2015 21:56

MumToFourCats are you saying you can't remember a conversation you've had that day/week/month/year? Confused

The guy was an idiot, OP.

And Simon sounds like an arsehole.

I was coming back from the Middle East into Heathrow with my two dc, both have autism, one also has dyspraxia and hyper mobility.

Our flight arrived at six in the morning and it hadn't been an easy one. Anyway I quietly asked a member of staff if we could go through the special assistance gate in passport control, explaining both children had autism etc. They couldn't have been more helpful and escorted us to the gate.

On arrival a woman pushing another elderly woman in a wheelchair turned round to look at us and kept doing so with a big frowny, questioning face. As we waited about five more people walked up and "frowny face" indicated for them to move forward in front of my children and I, as they were together as a party apparently. I said "excuse me but what do you think you're doing?" She replied "well you have to be disabled to come through this line, did you realise that? And you're not so I don't know why you're in this line at all!" She really looked pleased with herself too.

I replied in a tight but perfectly polite voice that we had every reason to be in this line and she practically shouted "BUT IT'S FOR DISABLED PEOPLE ONLY!" And then actually started complaining to the member of staff.

I'm afraid I can't remember exactly what I actually said, too tired and angry but I remember the assistant looking like Shock behind her. The words "how DARE you question my right to be in this line? do you honestly expect me to discuss my children's PRIVATE medical needs with some RANDOM, nosy individual in an airport line? BUTT THE HELL OUT AND MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS!!! Angry" were said very loudly though. She actually said "well excuse me!" In the most non-sorry, shirty voice you can imagine as well.

I got the last laugh though because they opened another gate and hustled my children and I through in front of her because she and her large party were already going through together and it took AGES! Smile

Once I was out for a walk with my baby in a buggy. An elderly couple were stood on the path by a bin chatting, leaving just enough room between the bin and them for the buggy to fit. As I squeezed past I noticed a discarded Snickers wrapping on the ground. I pushed the buggy carefully to avoid it getting tangled in the wheels (am allergic to peanuts). Then the man comes after me saying you've dropped this. I say no. He says this is yours. I say no. This carried on, I stayed polite but firm, explained that it was already there etc. I could tell he didn't believe me but he had to give up. There is no way I'm going anywhere near a sneakers.

Again like on the OP this random do-gooder/rule enforcer thought he saw something and jumped at the chance to "tell the woman off". He didn't like being wrong!

I was in a petrol station with my card at the payment counter as my daughter was filling up our lorry at the HGV pump.

You have to show your payment method before they will unlock the pump to fill up an HGV.

A lorry came up behind ours at the pump.

My daughter finished filling up and came into the station to get a drink. We were about a minute paying and leaving. As we came out of the door onto the forecourt the driver of the lorry behind ours came out of nowhere and started shouting at us along the lines of ' Fucking cunts - making me wait - no consideration - should have moved out of the way to let me in to the pump - ' very aggressively.

I didn't clock that he was shouting at us at first - nowhere have I ever moved the lorry out of the way to allow the next lorry in - they just wait like normal people until you have paid and gone. And actually he had to come in to the shop thingy to show his card anyway before he could fill up.

He was so nasty that when I did realise he was shouting at us I was quite upset and so was my daughter. We got away as fast as we could.

We decided he had had a row with his wife before he set off and was taking it out on us. There was no way on god's earth he would have shouted at another man like that. And he made sure he was yelling at us on the forcourt and not in front of the lovely men who run the garage inside the shop.

Tosser.

My sister gets told off all the time for using disabled toilets with her young daughter who is not visibly disabled but requires catheterising and is not yet old enough to do it herself.

It enrages me. She just ignores as she feels she shouldn't have to explain herself to every ignorant person.

I wish there was a way to make people more aware.
I also wish disabled toilets were cleaner they are often filthy (but that's a different post).

I was told off by in a card shop by another customer. I had ordered a personalised banner with DS photo on for his first birthday party through that shop. The banner failed to arrive for his birthday, failed to arrive the following day and the third day, apparently it had been sent to Scotland by mistake. Luckily the party was on Saturday, so I went to the shop to see if it had arrived on the eve of the party. It hadn't. I was very upset, plus to make things worse, the manageress/owner without explaining anything asked me to wait and started serving other customers who were behind me in the queue. At this point I lost my temper. I said 'you had four days to rectify the problem, I was patient all these days and now you are testing my patience even more' and things like that. I raised my voice too, as I was really stressed after all that party planning for the first ever DC's first ever birthday. And then the woman in the queue waded in and told me off like a schoolgirl. I can't even remember what she was saying, but something like she had a right to shop in a calm atmosphere and to make things worse said that I was being a bad mother to my son, who was with me, and things like that. I felt totally put out, as I am not a confrontational person. I didn't say anything, but made sure that the shop refunded me the money plus delivered the banner to my home address on the day of the party. But It still ruined my mood for such a special occasion.

Airport woman was a cow. My DS has asd too - I never knew about disabled gate but will piss everyone off by using it will ask to use in when we go away in the summer!

Lorry man was clearly having a bad day. I agree these people pick their moments and audience.

Scary moment with the snickers - well handled though.

OP posts:
MumToFourCats · 16/03/2015 07:02

HicDragon DFOD where do you get off telling me what i can say or not say?

OP - it's judgement day every day on here, hadn't you noticed? Hmm

youarekiddingme · 16/03/2015 07:05

I was with my friend and our dc. I never mentioned a DH as he's not around anymore.
Clearly my ability to remember conversations is better than your ability to read an OP! Fwiw my friend only heard my last comment as I am mature enough not to raise my voice as can get my point across clearly.

I still think it's hilarious you'd think I'd make this up. Read my posts in MMSN boards and you'd see I don't really have a lifestyle where I have the luxury for such elaborations and rarely post outside these boards.

And yesterday afternoon I spent 2 hours dealing with DS meltdowns as well as building some furniture. Woukdnt say it was better things to do - but certainly filled more time than talking bollox on Mn would have!

I suggest you hide the thread - calling troll breaks guidelines.

OP posts:
NickiFury · 16/03/2015 08:02

Mumtofourcats you really are remarkably rude and goady. Even if the OP was lying what does it really matter to you that you have to storm onto her thread and try to embarrass her as you have?

I believe you entirely OP, as you can see I have had such an experience with a similarly obnoxious person. Or maybe I am lying too? Maybe all of us recounting our tales are lying too?

I reiterate you're horribly rude and goady and best ignored by the OP.

ChiwetelFan · 16/03/2015 08:20

MumToFourCats out of order, I think you've just proved the point that there are unbelievably obnoxious people in the world.
