to say I've been here long enough to spot a journalists thread at 20 paces?

you all know the ones, a name you dont recognise and an op which is goady and ridiculous

the answers come flying in and the op answers maybe once or twice in the whole thread

mn must be a bloody goldmine for them

OP posts:
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 14/03/2015 16:51

You know what we're all going to say... put your money where your mouth is! Link to one.

Out of curiosity, who here has found themselves quoted in an article?

ssd · 14/03/2015 16:55

I thought you werent allowed to start a thread about a thread, MN rules and all that?

its not rocket science

OP posts:
MrsFlannel · 14/03/2015 16:57

YABU. That gravy and chips thread was no journo. Just a troll.

ssd · 14/03/2015 16:57

I disagree

OP posts:
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 14/03/2015 16:58

It is rocket science for me Sad I have zero troll-dar or journo-dar.

Ubik1 · 14/03/2015 17:00

And what will the journalist do with all the fascinating pearls of wisdom and hilarity on mumsnet these days?

ghostyslovesheep · 14/03/2015 17:01

no you are confusing goady trolling with lazy jurnos

lazy jurnos post vaguely political or monetary ones about house prices or nannies

ghostyslovesheep · 14/03/2015 17:02

and the gravy poster isn't a troll - it's a regular who's bored and trying to be witty imho

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 14/03/2015 17:04

Just read the gravy and chips thread. I think THAT'S Katie Hopkins.

And oi, Ubik. The tree pun thread is where it's all at.

TiggyD · 14/03/2015 17:05

Somebody pointed out trolls and their ilk tend to have names that end in numbers.

I'm not about to shop anybody though. As long as the thread the journo stuck up on the board is interesting, I don't mind that much.

Piffpaffpoff · 14/03/2015 17:07

I definitely reckon some of the political ones are being started by election staff in various parties to get a feel for what people are thinking and why.

DidoTheDodo · 14/03/2015 17:07

A jokey wedding related poem I wrote got used in its entirety in the daily telegraph after being lifted from here.

ssd · 14/03/2015 17:27

I've noticed a few threads about how great ed miliband is

yawn

OP posts:
MrsFlannel · 14/03/2015 17:31

Dido a comment I made about a large corporation in the UK resulted in MNHQ contacting me saying that the Daily Fail had been in touch to ask if I'd consider talking to a journo about my experience there as an employee!!

THEY'RE WATCHING!!

Piffpaffpoff · 14/03/2015 17:44

I am now much more reserved than I used to be when commenting on popular things on Twitter as the Daily Mail seems to write half their stories about what people are saying about things on Twitter, complete with screengrabs, and I have no desire to appear on MailOnline!

LapsedTwentysomething · 14/03/2015 17:47

I was quoted in an article about Kate Middleton's post-baby bump.

DontDrinkandFacebook · 14/03/2015 17:52

I don't know about always spotting the journos starting threads, but I am getting mighty cheesed off with hearing the Discussions Of The Day on the Jeremy Vine show being cheekily lifted on a very regular basis directly from threads on MN. It's so lazy. Let them do their own bloody research!

firesidechat · 14/03/2015 18:09

That sounds like a troll, not a journalist.

The journalist ones ask slightly general questions about something that may or may not be in the news, give no background to their own life and never post again or post a question which sounds exactly like an interview.

Elllimam · 14/03/2015 18:14

I don't really read any papers now so if I was quoted I would never notice. Not that I ever say anything very exciting anyway.

gamerchick · 14/03/2015 18:15

That gravy and chips was I agree a regular who had an I'm a going to be a knob for a bit moment. Hope they got it out of their system.

The ones that post inflammatory topics and post a maximum of twice are usually farming jobs I also agree.

Sometimes you don't spot them in time but by then the frothing has began and there's no stopping it.

clam · 14/03/2015 18:16

Jeremy Vine, Matthew Wright, GMTV, This Morning - they all lift stuff from here.

improbablesaint · 14/03/2015 18:19

Mumsnet would be nothing without the rest of the media. I think anyone who thinks its all about the posters is naive

Its a business, and needs to do more than just have the boards

improbablesaint · 14/03/2015 18:20

And you would also be Naive to think that Mnhq might not be behind some of the threads!!

Yuleloglatte · 14/03/2015 18:20

Who cares? I read threads that interest me. I use info relevant to me, and I post if I have something relevant to say. I don't care whether there are journalists or trolls on a thread, it's just a thread on a website. If the posts are funny or useful that's great. If people are annoyed at being quoted, they should become writers. I just don't get why people care how genuine threads are. If people write genuine responses, those responses are still worthwhile as someone may find them helpful in the future.

We all have a responsibility to ourselves to not get too emotionally involved, and if we do it's usually something about ourselves that we need to examine.

Sparklingbrook · 14/03/2015 18:28

I got a PM from ITV to talk about something I said on a thread a year ago. Confused
