AIBI To want to see Ed Milliband's other kitchen

Ed Milliband has been photographed in his kitchen with his wife. This led to a vile article in the DM from Sarah Vine (Gove's wife) saying how sterile and alienish it looked. Apparently this is his kitchenette and we didn't see the main one. Come on Ed, show us your kitchen.

as a Barrister and published legal author I imagine it's as much Justine's house and kitchen as it is Ed's - ditto mentions of 'the nanny'

two busy working parents may use childcare shocker Hmm

I'm failing spectacularly to see the issue - except the petty and rather unpleasant bile from the Fail

Just watched the This Week clip. Good for Michael Portillo (gives me a slight funny turn saying that). It seems she's just as bad in person as in print. Her 'have you seen my twitterfeed/you gotta give as good as you get' argument is a load of horse shit.

Loved the duo in pink!

lol yes - words I never thought would leave my mind

Applecross · 13/03/2015 16:45

Yes Portillo totally nailed it, good for him!

EveBoswell · 13/03/2015 16:46

The Milibands live in an old terraced house. I bet the 'kitchenette' was the original scullery so in a way it is a second kitchen. It's just a modernised scullery. 'Kitchenette' is a naicer word than 'scullery'.

derxa · 13/03/2015 16:58

I enjoyed This Week last night and yes Sarah Vine sounded like an absolute arse. I hope her husband enjoyed messing about with teachers heads and sending a copy of the King James Bible to every school in England.
All of these politicians have such a sense of entitlement. As if we could possibly believe that such a pair (Millibands) wouldn't have a kitchen where they could hold their power suppers. I could go on and on and on....

I assumed he lives in a town house so has a big kitchen down on the ground / lower ground floor and has this "kitchenette" up by the drawing room one, maybe two , floors up

JohnFarleysRuskin · 13/03/2015 17:03

It's very funny that he would invite in photographers to his 'little' kitchen.

Another labour 'man of the people.'

expatinscotland · 13/03/2015 17:05

No. Don't give a shit. He's a red Tory. Wouldn't vote for that party in a million years with him at the head.

GallicGarlic · 13/03/2015 17:07

It was incredibly naive - or disingenuous - of them not to realise this would happen, and try to head it off.

Having just watched the Mrs Gove clip, though, I feel fine about sharing my observation that she resembles a squeaking sofa.

"You have to give as good as you get" is what bullies everywhere say. Justine Thornton's a nicer person than me or Sarah Vine, she won't descend to that level. This doesn't make her a good target; it makes Vinegove a coward as well as a bully.

Viviennemary · 13/03/2015 17:09

I saw this Sarah Vine being interviewed on Newsnight. What a dreadful woman she sounds. But all the same photos in your second not so smart kitchen is hardly a good idea when the truth is known. Makes me even more reluctant to vote either Labour or Conservative. We're all being taken for fools. IMHO. Politicians care about one thing. Themselves.

Applecross · 13/03/2015 17:11

Whoever does his pr is to blame really, I do think it could have been anticipated too. While Sarah vine is vile, this is what politics is like in the age of photoshoots and social media

popalot · 13/03/2015 17:11

That kitchen just added to his persona that comes across a bit odd overall. It didn't help normalise him, if that was the intention he had.

vindscreenviper · 13/03/2015 17:12

I like this tweet from Mark Steel.

Sarah Vine is a class act, the least ethical in a room with Portillo, and the most repulsive in a marriage with Gove. Make her a dame.

'Scullery' takes me back years, my nan always called the kitchen that.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 13/03/2015 17:17

So ed presents himself in his 'humble' kitchen and its a journalist who is the tosser here.
That's just as funny.

ConferencePear · 13/03/2015 17:20

For goodness sake. What has Ed's kitchen got to do with anything ?
Will it affect the way you vote ?

squoosh · 13/03/2015 17:20

If it had been any other journalist who wrote this I wouldn't be bothered but the fact that Sarah Vine is married to the Conservative Chief Whip alters things slightly I'd say.

GallicGarlic · 13/03/2015 17:25

It's quite funny that she called Thornton an 'alien'. Has she ever looked at her husband?

funnyossity · 13/03/2015 17:26

After watching Sarah Vine on TV last night I was left with the feeling she needs to go away and reinvent herself.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 13/03/2015 17:30

Well yeah, Ed being wealthy enough to have two kitchens has nothing to do with anything - just as Cameron being rich enough to have five kitchens doesn't really either.

Ed pretending he is a man of the small and humble kitchen people - when he isn't - does say a lot about him. Why wouldn't it affect the way I vote?

almahart · 13/03/2015 17:58

Love that clip. Portillo was brilliant, but what incompetence in the Miliband's pr, really. Of course it would come out that that wasn't their only kitchen.

If only David had won. It depresses me to death to see Ed at the helm

squoosh · 13/03/2015 18:00

I wish David had won too.

bluebirdonmyshoulder · 13/03/2015 18:11

Reekypear has it, that's the kitchen the nanny uses for the kids' teas.

Bet the 'real' one is much swankier. Because Ed is very rich. But he doesn't want to admit that!

thesaurusgirl · 13/03/2015 18:13

I would vote Labour but really can't whilst Ed is at the helm. I don't know what it is, but I have no confidence in him. He's like a teacher who can't keep order in class because even the kids know he's a soft target.

I hope there's a coup in the next day or two and either David comes back or Harriet Harman steps up.

Most of this shower - of every political persuasion - have two or more houses with multiple kitchens. I don't really care about that (even though my taxes have helped subsidise those kitchens). I do care about someone very privileged passing himself off as something he isn't.

funnyossity · 13/03/2015 18:28

Harriet Harman? Seriously I cannot see any appeal there.
