AIBU to think it won't be very hot there over Easter? We are thinking of booking but I want warmth!! Can't really go in the summer when I know it will be hotter so wondering what April will be like?

scurryfunge · 11/03/2015 18:13

It will be very pleasant and warm but don't expect too much of a tan.

RoganJosh · 11/03/2015 18:15

I've been to there in summer and it was cloudy every day till midday and then very windy. Apparently that's normal, so I'd wonder how warm it will feel at easter.

I think you might be better with the Canaries or Cyprus if you want warm.

SofaSpud · 11/03/2015 18:24

Fuerteventura is in the canaries....
Always been in the low twenties when I've visited.

DontDrinkandFacebook · 11/03/2015 18:26

We went in Jan/Feb and it was freezing and boring and very windy.

DontDrinkandFacebook · 11/03/2015 18:27

If you haven't booked yet then I'd say don't. Honestly, unless you want the wind due to being an avid windsurfer there are a zillion nicer places to go. It ain't all that.

DeeCrepid · 11/03/2015 18:28

Just come back from Lanzarote (island close by) lovely sunny weather, good tans. Cyprus is not reliable until May. (Lived there for three years)

googlenut · 11/03/2015 18:29

We went in the summer and the breeze is good during the day but even in August it felt chilly at night. The biggest downside for us was that the pool never got warm enough for the kids to play in it any length of time. We have 3 children and a big plus of the pool is they will usually spend all day in it in a warm climate. I wouldn't go back.

googlenut · 11/03/2015 18:30

Fiertrventurs is much windier than the other islands

Latara · 11/03/2015 18:35

Apparently some of the beaches in Fuertaventura are pretty but it is known for being one of the windier places in the Canaries.

I went to Lanzarote (you can see Fuertaventura from there) one May and it could get chilly at night (needed at least a cardi) but was lovely & hot during the day, it was quite windy there at times but a warm wind.

DontDrinkandFacebook · 11/03/2015 18:38

Yes the wind might be refreshing and helpful in August, but in low season not so much...

ChaiseLounger · 11/03/2015 18:43

Agree. We went in end jan and it was very sunny, warmish - high 20's, but really quite windy , unbearable on the beach. And apparently that amount of sun and high temperatures was unusual.

MaidOfStars · 11/03/2015 18:43

I went in November and it was mostly boiling. Couple of days of cloud, one record-breaking thunderstorm but otherwise scorchio. I got an ace tan.

MaidOfStars · 11/03/2015 18:45

All the bars in Fuerteventura put out shawls and blankets for evening customers!

kathryng90 · 11/03/2015 18:46

I went last August with 9yr old and 4 yr old everyone said I was mad and they would burn. It was cloudy until lunch, nice in afternoon for around 4 hrs then chilly in the evenings. We had a heated pool and needed it. Wouldn't go back.

Sistedtwister · 11/03/2015 18:51

I'm going at Easter, been before, yes it can be windy but usually warm. Feb and March are the wet cold months as far as the island ever gets 'cold'

In my experience the pools are never warm for some reason, sea is though.

minibmw2010 · 11/03/2015 19:00

Oh dear, I was thinking of going there early April but will reconsider now. Any suggestions of places that are a short flight but warm? Only for 3 nights or so.

poppymoon · 11/03/2015 19:08

i spent 4 nights in tenerife mid february and it was perfect. sea and unheated pools were a bit chilly but for lounging around in the sunshine, the weather was spot on. locals said that they have had a very long winter period this time but i'd say that by april, it will have warmed up plenty (was low 20's in february).

Notagainmun · 11/03/2015 19:13

Went to Gran Caneria this time last year exactly and it was 24 degrees most day and sunny. Think that particular island has it's own micro climate.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 11/03/2015 19:43

Cape Verde is supposed to be good for short haul sunshine

RoganJosh · 12/03/2015 11:07

Oh so it is in the Canaries. I mean another Canary that isn't windy! Tenerife seems warmer. I know it's very nearby but there's a reason Feurteventura (struggling to check spelling on my phone) is a big surfing destination and the other Canaries aren't.

ChaiseLounger · 12/03/2015 16:04

Gran Canaria? Or Ibiza? God, I love Ibiza.

juliej75 · 12/03/2015 16:09

Wish I'd read this before we went last Feb. VERY windy, which we expected, but pretty cold too. My tough-as-old-boots kids wouldn't set foot in the unheated (icy) hotel pool and we could only spend time on the beach because we all had full length wet suits.

And yes, not the most exciting place I've ever been (to put it politely)

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 12/03/2015 16:09

Lanzarote is lovely - lots to do. Can be a bit windy but also mostly good weather. You can visit Fuerteventura as a day trip on the ferry.

Many hotels in the Canaries have at least one heated pool so that's always a good thing to look out for.

pieceofpurplesky · 12/03/2015 16:15

Fuerteventura is my favourite canary island. I love the wild windy beaches, not being too hot at night and the gorgeous sunshine (most hotels have wind breaks around them). It's much less commercial than the other big islands - and I find it more laid back

specialsubject · 12/03/2015 17:15

The island does not move, so the sun strength in April will be quite high due to the latitude and time of year. If you expose skin then you can get your UV damage, no problem. Temperature utterly irrelevant.

clue is in the name as to the prevailing conditions. And it is not the place to be if you need entertaining.
